hi PLEASE reveal how you make your GIFs so clear and non-pixelated

hi !! first of all i use 1080p episode downloads which really helps with the quality. keeping the frame speed lower also helps with quality, so if i use every frame i put the frame delay on around 0.06. also sharpening is really important and i use similar settings to these. i also make sure that my colouring doesn't make any part of the gif too pixelated, because sometimes adjusting certain colours can make parts of the gif really pixelated or grainy :/.

for example for this gifset i had to lower the saturation completely for the cyans, the greens and the blues.

and this was what it looked liked before i did that:

much clearer to look at and a lot less grainy and pixely (tho not as good as i would've liked but oh well). this is because gifs can only have up to 256 colours:

so certain colours are prioritised which can also help to result in the grain/pixelation. which is why export settings are also extremely important:

i usually use selective and diffusion, but if i have a gradient or lots of colours like in this gifset i sometimes use adaptive and pattern. i'm not as a huge fan of pattern bcs it creates tiny little boxes so i usually stick to diffusion if i can. also switching between selective and adaptive helps to see which colours are prioritised and whether it makes a huge difference on what your gif looks like, so you can play around with those settings until it's to your liking.

for example this is what a gif with a gradient kinda thing looks like with a diffusion export setting:

you can see the orange colour isn't very smooth and you can see the layers of it but with pattern it looks much better:

much better !! i did end up using selective and pattern here as there wasn't much of a difference between using adaptive and selective even tho the colour tables looked kinda different:

AAAA! honestly, i don’t have a ton of recs with adventure rescues specifically, as much as i love them. (if anyone else has any reccs PLEASE drop them in my replies/inbox/dms. i would love to read them) that being said, here’s some of my favorites!

Heroes for Ghosts by pantheon_of_discord - 43k cas POV while dean and sam are in prison. It’s definitely been recc’d by other people before but, absolutely worth the read, they were not lying!

Convenient Husbands by Annie D - 39k of a combination of all my favorite tropes. cas is a creature and he and dean get magic married, forming a psychic bond. literally i could live in this fic forever. (explicit warning). 

Seraph by dothraki_shieldmaiden - 51k where dean and cas are college friends. With a twist, cas is a superhero! vaguely divorce arc vibes but also bamf cas my beloved, makes it worth it, and you know there’s a happy ending

ghosts that we knew by dothraki_shieldmaiden - 89k cas is a ghost au set in stanford era. another fic i could live in from the sheer amount of beloved tropes employed. (explicit warning)

when the world screams by k_k_tibal - 31k au where cas is a deaf EMT who saves dean’s life after a car crash. i feel soooo many emotions when reading this fic, it’s so good. tw for references to child abuse and panic attacks though.

the dove’s long journey to champaign by violue - 33k. this fic is an au where dean got stuck on an island for 4 years (a la castaway), dealing with the aftermath post rescue. I absolutely adore it and it gives me so many emotions. tw for references to suicide attempt

it’s a long life to always be longing by superhoney - 41k where amara turns dean into sleeping beauty instead of giving them mary. bonus cas and sam bonding while they rescue dean

my father said to me once that one of the things he deeply regretted was not putting music on for his father while he was fading away. he told me that grandpa would just sit in his old armchair in the quiet, and not until after he’d passed did my dad think of how he could have played of his favorite classical music tapes for him so grandpa could listen to something while he still could. i was very young when this happened and not much older when my dad told me this, but it always stuck with me as something important.

my mother died at home in a hospice cot, slowly shutting down over the course of about a week. when she had stopped responding, i remembered what dad told me about wishing he’d played music for grandpa, and i put the radio on her favorite country music station and kept it on for her until she died.

daddy died in hospital. no cassette players, no decent radios. the day after he was brought in, i thought again of what he told me, and i bought a little portable bluetooth speaker. even though he never woke up, was never aware, i played music for him too.

there’s no real significance to sharing this, not really. my motivation is selfish, again: i just want to hope that someone might think of this when their loved one is stuck in silence somehow, and maybe they’ll play music for them, and they won’t have to regret not doing so. i want to hope it helps someone. and i want to hope that someone will remember my dad with me, even in just a “story i read on the internet” way.
