Late Night Azris musings…
Thinking about how Azriel realistically should be mute due to the lack of exposure to language in his childhood - an hour a week with his mother is not sufficient enough to learn language fluently. If children don't learn to speak by age 7 then it's likely they will never be able to. His shadows speak to him in his head and he was locked in a basement for 23 hours a day so he would have nobody to talk to out loud.
Rhysand and Cassian used to beat him up to try and get him to talk so he spent at least a year without speaking once he got to the war camps - missed opportunity to explore mutism via trauma or the afore mentioned lack of speech. He speaks so little anyway so I'm fully HC that he has selective mutism.
So Azriel teaches himself sign language which the others learn but because he can hear perfectly fine, they often forget and he ends up writing most things down. Azriel, who is just happy to be out of the basement, tries not to take it to heart. He's grown used to people fumbling, the hesitations, the awkward silences.
Then along comes Eris who spends the next 500 years trying to figure out which version of sign language Azriel uses and then teaching it to himself. He's shockingly bad at it at first, to the point where Azriel thinks he's making fun of him and flies off in an icy rage. Eris' persists though and tracks Azriel's hands when he's signing, another bad move because it looks like he's staring at the scars. He gets better when they're stuck together on spying missions, starts asking how to sign certain words, how to move his hands correctly. After a few glasses of wine when they're stuck laying low in a human village he gets Azriel to show him all signs for dirty words. After a while Eris doesn't even speak out loud to him any more, it's all signed in what begins to feel like their own special language.
In a moment of brevity Eris signs "can I kiss you?" and then later "can I fuck you?" Azriel signs yes for both. When the mating bonds snaps into place Azriel admits that he never learnt the sign for it, believing that he was too damaged, too unworthy to be someone's mate. They make their own sign for it instead, something soft, and secret and safe.

What if that deal Nesta made with the cauldron made her human again?
See, I remembered my theory from when I first read ACOSF. Basically, that bargain of returning magic to the cauldron had a greater weight than "just" magic, after all, magic was intertwined with Nesta's life. She tore the cauldron apart while transforming into a fairy. Can a fairy exist without magic? These thoughts make me think that returning the magic almost cost her life, and at the time people only talked about how it wasn't bad enough, since she never wanted the magic. I also see it as a defeat. Nesta returns the magic to the cauldron, Nesta lost the war because she "couldn't" maintain it, she wasn't able to sustain it. There are many layers to this.
But the prompt of the day is: What if Nesta returned the magic that made her a fairy and returned to being human? 👀

Karma is a Bitch: Tamlin and Rhys
Imagine… just imagine the sheer irony if the theory Tamlin was in love with Rhysand’s sister and she's alive is true.
So when she finally comes back… she’s Tamlin's mate.
Like: Rhysand: steals Tamlin’s bride Tamlin: steals Rhysand’s sister Rhys: 😐 Tamlin: 😎
Because what’s more “plot twist” than the man who hates you more than death itself… becoming your brother-in-law.
The pure definition of karma is a bitch 😂
And the worst part for Rhysand? They’re actually in love. Deeply, stupidly, soul-bonded, can’t-live-without-you, ‘I’d burn the world for you’ type of mates.
Rhys: “You can’t be with him.” His sister: “We share a soul, Rhys. Also, he play the fiddle.” Tamlin: softly “Wich means I'm good with my fingers.” ...... pause "For sure better than you"
Ohh SJM let that happen pls

Villain Tamlin
@springdusk
I'm responding to you in a post because OH BOY YOU SENT ME A WHOLE LOT OF PAIN (but absolutely send more lmao)
Tamlin goes out of his beast form at the mid of spring and basically had flash backs. The magic of the land reconnects with him forcing him to relieve the pain of the hybern attack forcing him to relieve the pain of losing his sentries and citizens and refugees he failed to protect.
First of all, WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE PUTTING THIS KIND OF PAIN IN MY MESSAGES?!?!?
I can absolutely see Tamlin being kinda numb throughout all of ACOWAR, but after the war against Hybern, when the dust has all settled, it all comes rushing back.
I imagine Prythian being rocked with record breaking earthquakes, thunderstorms, hurricanes etc from the force of Tamlin's rage and guilt and despair as he mourns and remembers his court.
The storms shake the mountains of the NC, and maybe a spectacularly angry quake splits Ramiel down the centre, serving as a bad omen for the Illyrians, and turning the tide against Feysand as rulers 😏
he starts planning Feyre's downfall. His mindset is fuck them, they're monsters and the world needs to see that.
YES. FUCK THEM. FUCK. THE. NIGHT. COURT
He starts rebuilding sprig and learning to be less afraid of his power. He's still reliant on wind magic but he starts using plant magic as well and he uses his father's techniques. This leads to him making a wall for spring
HELL FUCKING YEAH
imo Tamlin is THE most powerful H.L. I mean, he killed Rhysand's father with zero issue when he hadn't even gotten access to his own H.L powers yet, so-
I imagine that he has wanted to be as far removed from his father as possible, so avoided the elemental/ land magic that his father was known for, and instead practised the common magic that his mother used.
But after the destruction of Spring? All bets are off.
In reflection of his emotions, ash trees begin to grow around spring in a great labyrinth. It's only purpose is to protect Spring, and Tamlin is the only one who can control it. It is a sentient thing that spreads and thickens until it becomes un-impenetrable.
Tamlin then works with Beron (he was planning on taking down Beron in the long run) only to learn about hewn city treatment and Illyrian. His initial plan to destroy feysand relationship and political is thrown out of the window cause it doesn't matter. He starts planning how to save hewn city.
Part 1 ends with hewn city moving to spring and some illyrians learning about the high lord who can regenerate their wings
OOHOHOHO, WHAT IF ASH WOOD CAN BE MADE INTO A HEALING POTION THAT REVERSES DAMAGE AND CAN HELP TO HEAL CLIPPED WINGS IN ADDITION TO TAMLIN'S SHAPE-SHIFTING ABILITIES???
When the Illyrian females hear of this cure, it's the final straw and pretty soon all of Illyria has defected to Spring. Rhys loses his army, the Spring refugees return from Summer, and Tamlin regains the trust of his court.
BOOM.
But that's only the beginning of his revenge 😈

Thought, all of Beron's children aren't by the Lady of Autumn.
Aside from the fact that children are supposed to be rare for the fae, and yet LoA had SEVEN, this also gives the opportunity to build more Autumn lore.
Eris and Lucien are the LoA's only children.
The other sons are illegitimate sons of Beron's that were born of other noble Autumn ladies, but instead of killing them discreetly as historically accurate, you have the Autumn powers to take into consideration. Beron is a greedy, power hungry, dramatic ass bitch, so of course he's gonna want to keep his kids alive to see which of them will be worthy enough of the Autumn seat.
And just because he's petty, he legitimised ALL of his bastards, and so now you have entire bloodlines in the Autumn court battling it out to see their sons sit the Autumn throne. Beron's constantly pitting them against each other, but as long as his prized heir the actual true born of Autumn; Eris, stays alive, he does not give a shit.
Also, please give the LoA a break. SEVEN FUCKING KIDS???!?! Let her breathe jfc

I actually love this so much. Like, we can't deny that Beron is abusive, but I love how you've given the LoA so much more autonomy here in her decision making and choice to stay beyond 'th-the children that I show no emotion to 🥺' .
This has given me so many more writing ideas. Now I desperately want healthy loa x beron, because beron's not actually an abusive tyrant, iTs aLL a MaSk that he wears 🫠
This might be fever talking, but I want LoA who is conservative and traditional, and approves of her husband. It hurts her that he has to punish the children, but they are princes and they need to learn how to behave. Sometimes Beron oversteps, yes, but he is a High Lord, he's under tremendous pressure, so his flare ups can be excused.
I want LoA who's prim, and proper, and whom her husband never actually hit. The cause for change in her demeanor after the Helion affair is exactly that: it was an affair, and she betrayed her husband, her position, her family by allowing her old flame to get close and spoil her. And yes, Beron shunned her after it, removed her from Court, but he took her, a cheating female, back, and he, unlike her, remained faithful despite everything.
I want LoA who hates Helion because she sees that she's just another fling to him to seduce and toy with, and she is tremendously ashamed that she allowed him. She sullied herself, and she thinks everyone is looking down at her for it. Her sisters certainly would, had they survived. But they are dead, and she betrayed their memories.
I want LoA who in turn looks down on Feyre and thinks: this human girl is so spoiled. She's clearly overstepping, and she looks ridiculous with her open gowns and her crown, and her nonsensical title. Lady of the Court is a position to treasure, not discard in favor of some made up "High Lady". It's clear to LoA that no one takes Feyre seriously, no, she's just a curiosity that Rhysand, this insufferable male, likes to show off, and she's too blinded by her pride to see it.
I want LoA who desperately clings to her ideas of the way the world should be and feels extreme defensive anger when this worldview is challenged.
And yet I want LoA who would be smart, cunning and absolutely entertaining to read about, who would make the reader want to argue with her in turn.
Basically I want Serena season #1 from the Handmaid's Tale.
Why? Because I am fed up with the image of perfect victim that all "worthy" women in ACOTAR are shoved into.

YES the Nesta thing annoys me too, even if she's my favourite Archeron sister lmao.
The whole idea of
Feyre = High Lady of Night
Elain = High Lady of Spring
Nesta = High Lady of Dusk
is literally the three sisters for three brothers debacle, but make it ✨colonisation✨
I'm sorry, but being prepared for an advantageous marriage until the age of 14 does not mean you are equipped to lead a COURT of people that you have despised for your entire life up until now 😭
More Elain hate because @flat-neines reminded me of the High Lady of Spring propaganda.
How daft someone needs to be to posture Elain as a ruler all because she likes flowers. She is portrayed as an immature woman in her twenties who couldn't even bother to worry about her little sister when she comes home from hunting covered in blood and grime, and these people think she is good enough to care for an entire kingdom? She doesn't even bat an eye when Feyre returns from Adriatta battle and is busy baking bread. She doesn't even check on Nesta who spent the entire day tending to the wounded after the battle or Feyre who ran off to catch a dangerous creature after consulting her. But yes, Elain is a nurturing figure to rule not one court but the entire Prythian.
Yes, such a self-centered person is a better fit to revive an entire court than the man who was willing to let Amarantha take him at the end of 50 years so his friends don't have to die, the man who was willing to open his court to refugees, the man who played spy risking his life for his people, the man who still allied with his enemy for the good, the man who sacrificed literally everything for the sake of others over and over again.
Because flowers.

SITS UP IN BED LIKE A ZOMBIE
Canon Nyxlin event
Feyre passes down her sapphire ring to Nyx so that he can present it to his spouse, as is tradition for most family heirlooms.
Feyre: This wedding ring belonged to your grandmother, and it is intended as a trial for strength, love, honour, and courage, so that your mate is truly worthy of you. I had to go through the same trial myself, so be sure you find a mate that is just as strong and brave as myself, or even more! 🥰
Nyx: bet
He uses it to propose to Tamlin, and Feyre needs to be physically restrained

Honestly. And not to be THAT person, but Elain as High Lady of Spring is kinda giving
Tumblr media
especially because Elain was literally human like yesterday in Fae time. The fuck does she know about Fae customs? And now she's supposed to be High Lady? (side-eyes Feyre for good measure)
More Elain hate because @flat-neines reminded me of the High Lady of Spring propaganda.
