His senses are numb. The past minutes have become a blur. Beron dismissed them, denied them a healer, and, under the threat of using more of his power against them, chased them away from the Forest House.
Eris feels broken on the inside, even more than he was before this day. And he feels remorse. Cenka, his loyal spy, is somewhere in the dungeons, wounded, in pain, dying and he brought this upon her. He let her get hurt. He let his little brother get hurt.
Eris moans when Kallax urges him to go faster. The two brothers have been holding each other up while stumbling outside, almost like they were young boys again and their father had punished them for something silly and they ran away from the Forest House, seeking shelter from his rage somewhere within the forest.
They are heading into the forest, trying to get as far away from Beron as possible with both of them wounded and broken. They couldn’t stay there, or anywhere close to the Forest House, it could have ended terribly...
A trail of agony is left behind on Eris’ skin in the form of open wounds. He loses track of time, of space, of everything except the relentless onslaught of suffering. It hurts so much, every small part of his chest and arm, and his soul. It bleeds.
He can’t believe his father still uses his firepowers on him – the lashes, the faebane, he took it all, but the firepowers? The powers of a High Lord…this was too much even for Eris to take.
Kallax helps his brother lower himself to the ground, his wounded knees touching the dewey moss first. He braces his hands in front of them, Kallax’s hand resting atop his back. “This fucking asshole,” Kallax growls, swallowing a sob.
Eris is bent over, his back bowing from all the pain he is feeling, all the wounds still fresh and open whereas on Kallax’ body some already start to heal and seal. “He deserves to die, painfully and slowly. Eris, do you hear me?” Kallax pats his older brother on the back. “You need to end this.”
“I…” The oldest Vanserra brother’s voice is a bit muffled, due to saliva and blood mingling in his mouth. Before he continues, he spits onto the ground, then stiffens his spine so he can look at his younger brother. “I will end it. I will make him bleed.”
Eris shoves his hands harsher into the ground, knuckles turning white, crunching dirt and pine needles between his fingers. “For what he has done to all of us, I will make him suffer.”
Kallax growls in approval, patting Eris on the back one last time (obviously careful of the wounded skin) before climbing to his feet. “I’m not sure…but I can leave you?” he rasps, voice full of uncertainty and remorse.
“Where are you going?” Eris asks in an equally husky voice, turning his head so far that it doesn’t hurt, but he can see his brother.
“To her. I need to see if he...if he did anything to her.”
Eris understands without Kallax offering any more explanation – he knows where his brother is going. To his forest-Nymph.
His expression softens with gratitude when he takes in his brother’s face. Kallax all of a sudden looks so much younger, so much more breakable but nevertheless strong, and fierce.
"Thank you," Eris murmurs to his younger brother, acknowledging the unspoken understanding between them.
A cool breeze rustles through the branches, making goosebumps appear on Eris’ skin when he repeats his words. “Thank you, Kallax.”
His brother only nods. “Will you be fine, Eris?” He straightens up and brushes his hands down his thighs. “Can I leave you alone?”
Eris assures him that he will be fine. He won’t keep his younger brother here, not when out there there is someone who will take care of him and tend to his wounds. He should go see her, and be safe with her. As far away from their father and his wrath as possible. No longer within his reach and his fury.
“I will take care of myself,” Eris assures his younger brother, his voice soft but determined, despite the pain he feels. Like I have done my whole life, he leaves unsaid.
Eris notices the uncertainty in Kallax's expression and looks at him steadily, showing both strength and honesty in his gaze. “I will be fine, you can believe me.”
His younger brother inclines his head, then rolls back his shoulders. He pins Eris with a look. “I just want you to know that you can count on me.” Kallax drags in a deep breath, the lift of his chest visible causing him pain. “I said it before, Eris, you are my brother. Whatever happened between us… we share the same blood and you…can always count on me.” He gives him one more glance over his shoulder and then he is gone. Winnowed away, hopefully to his nymph who will take care of him.
Eris sends a silent prayer to the Mother to keep his little brother safe and then he lets the pain reach the surface. He allows the hurt to show, knowing that his little brother no longer has to witness it. A cry of agony parts his lips and his arms give in, the whole extent of the pain that Beron caused him hitting him with full force then.
He cries out and pain pulses through him when he slumps to the ground.
Eris lies on the damp grass, bloodied and battered, his chest marked by burns and scars. The thoughts of his brother and their father's cruel actions weigh heavy on his mind, filling him with a mixture of anger and agony. Beron hurt Kallax and he wasn’t there to stop it. Beron hurt Cenka, and will continue to hurt her unless gets to save her. He has to heal. He has to fight for her.
He can't shake the overwhelming guilt that gnaws on him. Each wound marring his skin is a painful reminder of his failure to protect the people who mean everything to him. His brothers. His mother. His loyal spy.
Anger simmers beneath the surface, a flame fueled by fury and pain. He clenches his fists, his nails digging into his palms and he grinds his teeth. He won’t ever let anyone suffer again. This has to end. It has to end now.
This evening Beron won, but it was the very last time.
With each laboured breath he sucks in, he gains strength to fight for redemption, for justice and freedom within this court. For himself, for his brothers and for his mother.
Eris finds himself drifting between consciousness and oblivion, but his goal has never been clearer before. Once he is healed, he will make him pay. He will end Beron’s reign. He will end his father!
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
“Tamlin may have caused a lot of damage but he won’t support Beron.” Nesta places her hands on her hips, tilting her head to the side.
“You don’t know that, girl,” Amren cuts in, narrowing her brows. “He is unpredictable. We can’t trust anyone from another court – safe for Varian.”
“We can’t trust anyone else?” Nesta throws back. “We can trust Eris.”
Azriel shifts a little at the mention of Eris’ name. He has been standing at the door for a while, not moving an inch or saying a single word, just observing. He watches Amren’s expression closely, hoping to see what she truly thinks there. And if she truly mistrusts Eris. Azriel tightly tucks in his wings when he approaches Rhysand’s desk around which the others are crowded. His scarred hands are folded behind his back, his demeanour unreadable despite the rising curiosity within him.
“No.” Amren’s answer is so matter-of-factly, so cold, Azriel’s mouth almost falls open. Why would Amren think they can’t trust Eris?
Azriel internally thanks Nesta because she says, “Eris might be cruel and mean, but we can count on him. We can trust him. We are in this together with him, we have the same goal, we want the same for Prythian.”
“What if he wants to become High King of Prythian?”
“He doesn’t entertain this thought,” Rhysand finally says and rises from his chair, his broad hands now braced on the table beneath him. He slowly inclines his head to look on a stack of papers on the right side of the table, then languidly taps his finger against the dark wooden surface. “There was no thought of this in his mind.”
“He probably wouldn’t let you see it if he thought about claiming this position, boy.” Amren throws Rhysand a look, almost in a reprimanding way, but he gives his head a shake.
“His goal is Autumn and courts that are united, that work together and support each other.” His spine straightens and he shoves his hands into the pockets of his pants.
Azriel wants to inform them about Beron’s plans with Koschei, which Eris shared with him, but Nesta beats him to it. She reaches for Cassian’s arm, curls it around her middle and says, “Eris is not Beron and I think it is finally time for all of us to understand this.”
She looks at Rhys first, then at Azriel who offers her no answer. Also no reaction. He only looks at her, and then his features soften the slightest bit. Especially when Cassian speaks up as well.
“You all know how much I hate Eris, probably even more than Az does,” the general chuckles, “but my mate is right. We only know one version of Eris, the version he wants us to and everyone else to see. And I agree that we should and can trust him.” His arm tightens around Nesta, but this time Azriel doesn’t look away. He looks at them, and sees their love and doesn’t feel envious. He allows himself to happy for them…
And with this realisation, that he is not bad and doesn’t grant his brothers their happiness, he fixes his posture, now standing tall, his shadows calm around him and then opens his mouth.
“Beron is planning on a meeting with him. Eris informed me that his goal is to destroy Day and Night first, and then march all over Prythian; all of that with the help of Koschei. And Keir,” Azriel says in a loud and steady voice.
Silence blankets the room.
“Keir…” Rhysand breathes, but seems once again speechless afterwards.
Azriel wants to confirm Keir’s name, but he can’t. He suddenly feels a sharp pain pierce through the left side of his body. He doesn’t let it show, only shifts so his hand is holding onto the elbow of the other. Maybe it is heart, reacting to his lack of sleep, or he hasn’t drunk enough today, or his training was too hard the past days…
Once the silence is interrupted by Cassian’s loud “Fuck!”, chatter and discussions begin about what Azriel has just revealed. But the shadowsinger is no longer able to really listen or pay attention. He bounces his foot when the pain increases. He is confused about where it comes from, what causes the pain. It is not directly in his heart it is…in his soul.
His breathing quickens and he untangles his arms, bringing one hand up to rub over the back of his neck.
“This is exactly what Eris told you?” he hears Rhys ask and can only nod in answer. The pain is so damn strong, he has to squeeze his eyes shut for a moment. Sweat starts to break out on his forehead and Azriel stumbles backwards. Pain scrapes through his whole body making him wince internally.
Azriel drops his hands, clenching and unclenching them, his heart rapidly beating. A breath whooshes out of him. He folds a hand over his heart and takes another step back, slumping against the chair. “I need a moment,” he tells no one in particular but all eyes shoot to him.
“Az?” Cassian carefully asks, moving closer to his brother and placing his hand atop his shoulder.
Azriel? What is going on? Rhysand asks him mind-to-mind.
“I just need a moment,” the shadowsinger repeats when the pain within his chest only increases, it has spread out through his entire body and hurts so damn much; almost like flames burn through his veins, setting his whole body on fire.
But it can’t be…it can’t be fire that causes him this pain, unless–
A wail pierces through ear drums and he knows exactly who this voice belongs to. Azriel’s Illyrian leathers stick to his skin from how much he is sweating by now. His shoulders curl forward, caving in his chest.
Between quick shallow breaths, Azriel manages to say, “I’m sorry, I think I need to go home now. I’m not feeling well. I feel a little…dizzy.”
“We won’t let you leave like this, Az,” Nesta is quick to cut in, crouching down in front of Azriel, her hands resting on his left knee. “You really don’t look well. You think you caught something?”
He wants to tell them. He wants to tell them so badly, but he can’t. First and foremost, because he has no time. He has to go to the Autumn Court now. He can’t stay here a moment longer. He has to leave and check on Eris. He has to find out what is causing the Autumn Court male this pain, but he already guesses that he knows the answer. Beron.
Azriel has no doubts that this pain comes from Eris. They are connected through a fucking mating bond, and there is no more denying it. His want and need stems from this bond. He wants Eris because of this bond, and now he is going insane with panic and terror because someone hurt his mate. Not someone. Beron hurt his mate. And he has to find him now.
It could be a trap but he has to be reckless, he can’t sit here and pretend nothing is happening. He can’t shove the damn bond away.
“I think so. I must have caught something,” Azriel murmurs, and lifts his chin to look into Nesta’s eyes. She can see the lie in Azriel’s hazel ones, but only bows her head. “I guess you should lay down and rest then. Sleep always helps me,” she tells him and Azriel nods.
Azriel’s heart is racing when he pushes up onto his feet. “I’m really fine, I just need rest,” he assures Cassian who grimaces at him. “Lack of sleep and too little food today…nothing tragic,” he lies and bows into Rhysand’s direction, his mental shields tightly sealed. “Inform me tomorrow about what you discussed when I was absent.”
Rhys says nothing, only tips his head in answer. He also doesn’t believe his brother but he also doesn’t try to stop him. The cold between them hasn’t faded yet, there is still a lot to talk about.
The moment Azriel is outside, the cool air wraps around him like a snowstorm. He unfolds his wings and allows himself to roar with the ache all throughout his body. Then he takes off and shadow-winnows the rest of the way.
This is reckless and completely foolish, but this is what the bond makes you turn into. A reckless fool with only your mate in mind, and all kind of rationality having left you.
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
His booted feet touch the ground and a thump hollows through the empty and dark forest. Azriel’s heart shatters when he feels the whole extent of Eris’ pain. The shorter distance between them must have enhanced the feeling. It knocks the life out of his soul and in his mind there is nothing but fear and terror. And confusion.
He has never allowed himself to entertain the thought of them truly being mates, that the feeling within his chest is really the bond, but now there is no denying anymore.
He and Eris Kian Vanserra are fucking mates, and no one, not even the Mother and the Cauldron can change this.
Azriel drags in sharp breath. The shadows and mist are like a curtain around him, making it hard for him to see, but the goal is clear: he has to find Eris within the next few minutes.

Be Good
Pairing: Female Reader/Azriel/Eris | Rated: E🌶️
Neapolitan bonds Master post | Word Count: 2493|
Summary: Eris had an important meeting so he told you to listen to Azriel, but no sex. He didn’t say anything about the shadows having similar restrictions
Warnings: edging (female reader), daddy kink, light bdsm, mentions of rope and wax play, praise kink, mating bond three-ways. No use of y/n just second POV.
A/N: Eris=Daddy and Az=Sir. Reader=Princess, baby girl, my love. I also never claimed to be an expert in light bdsm. Idk what happened I wanted praise kink with Eris and Az and got this.
Read it here on ao3| Read below
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Eris said to do what Azriel said.
That’s how you ended up in your study, hands pinned to the desk by shadows. You sat on his lap with his hard cock pressed against your backside. He didn’t touch you; he wasn’t allowed to fuck you and you both knew if his hands met your bare skin you’d both be in trouble. But his shadows however weren’t under those constraints.
“Open up your bond to our mate, baby,” he whispered in your ear. The cool breeze of shadows slipped up your skirts.
“But he’s still in a meeting.”
“I know.” You could hear the wicked smirk in his voice as he pressed a kiss to the back of your head. “We’re just going to tease him. He’ll let you in.”
“But I’ll get in trouble.” You whimpered as those shadows swirled along your thighs.
“You want to be a good girl, don’t you? You have to listen to me. I won’t let you get in trouble.”
“You promise?”
You gasped as something cold- another shadow- slipped down the front of your dress.
“Have I ever lied to you baby girl?”
You twisted your shoulders around to look back at him with a skeptical look. He only chuckled at you. You normally kept your bond shut down during the day. Mostly because with two mates, nothing would get done if emotions were shared all the time. The three of you learned that after your frenzy. Azriel seemed to read your mind since your bond was wide open to him. You focused on opening the bond to Eris while he ran his hands down your sides.
“Remember the day when we accepted the bond?” Gods did you ever. His hands fisted the skirt of your dress, dragging the fabric up just slightly. “That night you took both of us so well.”
You remembered.
You’d winnowed to the cabin when the frenzy started. They both had their turns with you individually and with each other. But the bond was still squirming in your chest and you begged them both to take you at the same time. Eris was behind you and Az in front. You’d never been so full in your life. You’d never screamed so hard when all three of you came together, the bonds between you wide open and flooded with pleasure.
“We should do that again.” Azriel’s voice brought you back from the memory. “Take a week at the cabin. I want to work you open real slow.” His hands slipped over your dress and pulled your thighs apart without actually touching you. “I want to see you take us both in that pretty pussy of yours.”
“Az!”
You squirmed in his lap, both legs now draped over each side of his own. A shadow had slipped into your panties and ghosted along your clit. Another shadow was stroking along your breasts. Azriel’s chuckle rumbled in his chest. He brushed your hair side and nipped at your neck.
“Be good and Eris will come take care of you. Then next week, I get to play.”
“And do what?” you panted.
“First I’m going to fuck our mate so stupid, he’ll be calling me High Lord.”
“And me?”
By the Mother, the shadows were doing too good of a job teasing you. You couldn’t think about anything else but getting Azriel’s fingers into your cunt.
“I have ropes and a paddle waiting for you, princess.” You whimpered and wiggled your hips back against his cock. He growled into your ear and added. “Careful. You know what happens to brats when it’s my week.”
That brought a moment of clarity in the haze.
“Punish me then. I’ll just lick your wings until you beg.”
You yelled. Azriel was out of the chair and shadows were pulling you by your wrists down the desk so you bent over it. He didn’t take off your panties nor did he throw up your skirts. He kept you there for a moment not touching you. Then you felt him crowd around you, wings blocking the lights.
“Try that again.”
“I’m sorry,” you said quickly. He hummed at that.
“Tell me what you’re thinking.” He whispered in your ear.
“I want your hands on me.” That shadow in your panties was rubbing your clit faster. Your breath quickened. “I want your fingers. I want them- I want them in me.”
“What else?” Az pulled back and spanked you. Not enough to hurt but enough to make you yelp and stand on your toes. “I thought you were my good girl.”
“I am!” Gods you were close.
“Then why are you being sassy?” He laughed but you didn’t think it was funny.
“I’m not!”
Your skin was on fire. You could smell the arousal coming off Az in waves, torturing you on top of what he was pushing down the bond. You flexed your hands and stood on your toes, wanting to fall off the edge. Then the shadow left. You sobbed out a whine, tears in your eyes.
“Sir, please.”
You slumped on the table. A low primal growl behind you made you shiver.
“There she is.” He crowded you again. Shadows were back on your thighs, the cool brush of them teasing you more. “Hi baby. Close your eyes and listen to me. Don’t speak unless I ask you too.”
You did as you were told. Hazy want settled over you and you wished he’d touch you.
“Good girl.” You whined and pushed your hips back but he wasn’t having it. He held your hips in place. “Don’t be greedy, Princess. Our mate isn’t here, remember.” You nodded. “I want you to think about the last time I really fucked you.”
Last week came to mind. He had you by the hair, fucking your mouth while tears streamed down your face. Or when he had you on the bed, arms tied and legs pressed back so he could get in as deep as he wanted.
“Send that down the bond.”
You were sure Eris already knew what you were thinking but you pushed it through anyway. You thought a hum of approval came back to you.
“Think about what our mate is going to do to you when he’s done with his meeting,” Az whispered. Warmth in your chest bloomed at the thought of Eris coming back. “I know for a fact he’s been wanting you all day.”
You bit your lip, flashes of Eris fluttered through your mind. Shadows were in your panties again. You kept your eyes closed even while you squirmed.
“I showed him how to tie the rope but he still needs practice. Do you want me to put you in the rope tonight, baby? I could tie you up like a present and leave you on the bed for him. You can answer.”
“Not allowed,” you shook your head.
Az hummed approval. “You listen to us so well.”
You nodded. You did listen. Eris said no sex and no rope. Not unless he was present. You weren’t sure if it was a test of your honor or a test of patience. Probably the latter.
“We will practice on you later.” He kept talking. “He can get out the safe candles. I want to see you squirm again.”
You squeezed your legs at the thought. You knew it was going down the bond but the images you weren’t sure if it was from yourself or one of them. Flashes of Eris dripping wax on you while Az had his head between your legs. The snug feeling of the soft rope on your skin. You were close again, pleasure building in your pelvis and thighs. The shadows left again and you wanted to cry.
“Az,” you couldn’t get out the rest, a smack on your ass taking your breath away.
“That’s not my name right now, princess.”
You pouted. “Sorry sir.”
“You’re forgiven, baby.”
Az kept you like that for what felt like hours. His shadows would tease and tease, getting you close and then stopping, denying you of release. You’d beg and plead but Az wouldn’t let you cum.
“You can’t cum without Eris here, baby,” Az would chuckle.
At one point you heard his leathers being undone. You were so wet, you could feel it on your thighs.
“Sir please. I want it. I need it. I’ve been a good girl.”
You fucking knew he was stroking himself. Your mouth watered at the thought. You wiggled your hips, pesky shadows damn near overstimulating you. Az was still laughing at you like he wasn’t the cause of your current duress.
“I know Princess. You’ve been the best girl. You have to be patient and wait for Eris.”
But you were done waiting. You needed Eris right then. You needed him so bad you were throbbing from it. If Az wouldn’t take care of you, Eris would. You tugged on the bond without thinking, sending all your want down it. Come get me please is what you sent. The bond tugged back twice. I’m coming for you. Your eyes fly open. Eris was coming.
Daddy was coming.
“Daddy’s coming,” you whisper out loud. You pull at your wrists but the shadows don’t budge. “Daddy is coming for me.”
“Okay Princess,” Az was running his hands through your hair, instantly calming you from the frenzy of the moment. “You’re going to sit down in this chair and act like nothing happened. Okay?”
“Yes sir,” you sighed.
Shadows enveloped you smelling like Az and that calmed you down a little. Wrist shadows let up and he guided you back into your chair before the shadows went back around your wrists.
“Don’t say anything. I want him surprised.”
You nodded and waited.
Not even a minute passed when the door to your chambers opened and slammed shut. Heavy footsteps echoed as they approached the study and you had the nerve to hold your breath, waiting. You really shouldn’t have been surprised when a warm hand dug into your hair and pulled your head back over the top of your chair.
You blinked and stared up at Eris. His short red hair was askew, like he’d been running his hands through it constantly. He was breathing heavily.
“My love,” he said, looking down at you. You squirmed in your seat at how blown his pupils were. “You knew I had an important meeting today. Explain to me why, for the last hour and a half, you’ve been sending very distracting things down our bond.”
A shadow tightened on your wrist. A warning. You looked up at him and pleaded with your eyes. Eris was smart; his gaze flickered to where your hands laid on the desk. His grip loosened.
“Azriel.”
Laughter filled the room and behind you, you knew Azriel had stepped out of the shadows where he was hiding. Eris still didn’t let go of your hair.
He looked back down to you. “Did Azriel make you tease me, princess?” You nodded. With a heavy sigh, he let you go.
“Azriel.” Eris’s voice was low, and even not addressing you, it went a shiver down your spine. “You almost got our girl in a lot of trouble.”
You could feel the heat off him, his anger mounting. The shadows holding down your wrists left you and you were free to turn in your seat. Another shiver ran through you. Both your mates were staring each other down. You looked at Eris.
“Are you mad at me, Daddy?” you said softly.
“Not with you, princess,” he didn’t look at you, but still glared at Azriel who was still chuckling to himself. “You think this is funny, Azriel.”
“Of course I do.” Azriel gave him that arrogant grin he always has when he was riling his mates up. “You shut me out. I knew you’d let our girl through the bond. I’d pay good money to have seen the look on Rhys’s face, you reek of arousal.”
“And this room reeks of sex,” Eris grumbled. He glared down at you and you shrunk in on yourself. “Did he fuck you while I was gone?”
“No,” you shook your head, eyes wide. “I was good. I was a good girl. I promise.”
“She was the best girl,” Azriel smiled at you proudly. “I edged her a few times. You didn’t bar me from using shadows. They helped paint the picture of what I wanted you to feel down the bond.”
Eris glowered at Azriel. “Of course you’d find a loophole.”
You bit your lip. “Am I in trouble Daddy?”
There was a flash of recognition in his eyes, like he just realized how deep in you were.
“No,” Eris took a deep breath, and closed his eyes. “I did tell you to listen to Azriel while I was busy.”
Az came over and stroked his fingers down your cheek. “See. You’re not in trouble. I wouldn’t let you be punished for following my instructions. You know that.”
You did but after playing with you all afternoon you were in a headspace and easily convinced otherwise. You looked up at Eris through your eyelashes.
“Is your meeting over?” You asked softly. You couldn’t help but drop your gaze to his pants.
“No, it’s not.”
“I’ll go,” Azriel said while he ran his fingers through your hair. You instantly relaxed at the touch. “It’s just Rhys.”
“And Tarquin. And Helion.”
Eris put his hands on his hips but you could stare at his crotch. Maybe you could convince him to use your mouth. You’d been so good for Az, you wanted to be good for Eris too.
“I can handle them while you take care of our girl.” Goosebumps crawled up your skin from his words and the way he played with your hair. “She’s been so good. She deserves it.”
“Good for you, maybe.” You whimpered and Eris looked down at you, a flash of regret on his face.
“I can be good for you too, I promise.” You whispered.
Eris sighed and looked at Azriel. “Go. But don’t think you aren’t getting punished later for making me look like a fool.”
“I look forward to it.” He leaned down by your ear and whispered, “Show our mate what a good girl you are.”
“Okay,” you nod.
Azriel hummed an acknowledgment and you looked to watch him disappear into the shadows. You didn’t have much time to react to Eris walking up and lifting you out the chair. He marched with you draped over his shoulder and laid you onto the bed.
“Daddy expects you on your best behavior.” You bit your lip while he stood by the bed and took off his jacket. “Is your bond to Azriel open?”
“Yes daddy.” Your eyes widened with want while you watched him work on his shirt next.
“Good. Take off that dress and let’s show our mate what it feels like to be toyed with.”

Eris hummed. "I'm not exactly in the business of sharing my secrets with pretty shadowsingers."
The corner of Azriel's lip quirked upwards. "Pretty, huh?"
— From an upcoming chapter of Don't Look Back
A surprise little treat for @rainbowdolphinrealm to go along the Acotar Gift Exchange fic! This was my first time writing Azris so I was a bit nervous, and doodling them definitely helped!

when the sea calls for three | intro
Paring: Azriel x Reader x Eris
Word Count: 1.5K
Summary: In the aftermath of war, peace reigns over the realms of Prythian, but the delicate balance hangs in the hands of two unlikely mediators—You and Lucien. As the newly appointed Emissaries of Peace, your duty is clear: maintain alliances, foster understanding between courts, and navigate the intricate webs of fae politics.
But when fate deals an unexpected twist, revealing that you possess not one, but two mates, the tranquillity you've worked so hard to uphold is suddenly threatened. Caught between two males who refuse to share, you find yourself thrust into a precarious position, torn between duty and desire.
What will you do and who will you choose?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I need you.
Those three words were all it took.
༄
In the soft glow of the morning light filtering through the room, flickering reflections of pinks and purples across the walls. Dawn Court had always been radiant, the sky, cobalt and rose. A sunrise all day long. You were proud to call it your home.
You stood before the ornate mirror, fingers delicately adjusting the intricate buttons of your tunic.
The decision to choose neutral clothing had been yours, a deliberate choice born from the realisation of what your new role weighed. You were to be a mediator, a peacekeeper, it only seemed fitting to don a uniform that symbolised your neutrality and dedication to maintaining balance among the realms.
The fabric shimmered with a subtle elegance, adorned with delicate motifs that whispered of the courts you now served. The tapestry of symbolism spoke something that words could not, of a new beginning, a new chapter– a time of peace.
The design along the back of your tunic, three majestic mountains rose proudly, their peaks reaching towards the heavens. Behind them, the sun emerged, casting its golden rays that spread warmth and light– a nod to your home.
In the left above, a fully fleshed sun beamed down upon the mountains, radiating its brilliance and vitality. To the right, three stars and a crescent moon were sewn with meticulous care, representing the rest of the solar courts and their celestial splendour.
On your left sleeve, leaves were hand stitched along your cuff,  bronze thread danced in a graceful swirl, climbing upwards towards your elbow, mirroring the silver icy shards that adorned the right sleeve. Autumn and Winter in perfect harmony.
Around your collar, a delicate pattern of vines and roses intertwined, symbolising the beauty and vitality of the Spring Court's bloom. And along the trimmings of the tunic's bottom, waves swirled in a mesmerising dance, evoking the Summer Court's boundless energy and fluidity.
Your tunic jacket cascaded gracefully, halting just at your hips, while beneath it, a long, flowing cream pleated skirt billowed elegantly to the floor. With your hair initially draping freely, you gently pulled it forward, ensuring the intricate details adorning the back of your tunic were given their rightful moment to shine.
As you smoothed the fabric, you couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in the role you had been given. Playing a bridge between courts, and worlds. A mediator between the people.
Politics had never really been something you relished in, but you were good with people, and good with your words. Qualities that your friend desperately convinced you, were integral to this role.
A soft knock on the door interrupted your reverie, and you turned to see Lucien, your friend, standing in the doorway. His mechanical eye wiring at the sight of you. He was wearing a similar tunic, one that was longer on his body but mirrored the designs of your own.
It was Lucien who had told you he needed you.
I need you.
He had written to you one evening. His correspondences were usually lighthearted and filled with friendly banter, but this weighed heavily in a way that was so unlike him.
“I could really use your help.” Lucien had breathed, when you came to visit after his letter.
I need you. I need my friend. I need someone to lean on. I need someone to laugh with. It’s been too long. I miss you.
Was what you heard. His message had been simple yet poignant, a plea for assistance and companionship.
You had always had a way with words and sounds. Understanding the gaps in between the breaths, the underlying emotions and intentions woven into each syllable. Most didn't realise what could be revealed in their words. How the octaves and melodic tones of their tongues sung of unspoken truths.
Lucien and you had shared a friendship that spanned many years, reaching back to your earliest memories of childhood. As children and teens, you had been inseparable, playmates in a time that now felt like a distant memory. However, when borders grew stricter and tensions mounted, those days were abruptly halted.
It wasn't until the dark days of Amarantha's reign that fate brought you back together, through the intervention of Nuan, a mutual friend. She was a skilled Alchemist of your court, who had aided Lucein in his healing, crafting his beautiful golden eye. And because he was no longer a part of Autumn, you were able to reconnect and your friendship flourished, even if it was predominantly through ink and parchment.
"Ready to face them?" he asked with a tight smile, his voice carrying a note of anticipation.
I’m nervous. Is what you heard under his words.
You returned his smile with a nod, a playful glint dancing in your eyes. “Of course, I was born ready Lucie” you replied, effortlessly flicking his nickname with a casual ease.
Despite having a smart mouth now, Lucien was a name you often got tongue-tied in your younger years. Lucie had been a much easier sound to make, and you didn’t hesitate to use the endearing name when wanting to tease.
Lucien rolled his eyes, but your casual demeanour softened the nerves that had laced his previous words. That had been your intention.
Just one example of how your intuition always left you saying the right thing. Of course there were times this didn’t happen, but those occasions were extremely rare.
“We should decide which courts reside under our care before the meeting” Lucien began, striding in front of the mirror to adjust his own tunic. “And I have to say you’ve made more progress with Tamlin these past two months than I have in the past year," Lucien breathed, a hint of admiration in his voice while he smiled at you through the mirror.
You raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing at the corner of your lips. "What, like it was hard?"
Tamlin's stubbornness had been a challenge, but your natural charisma and persuasion had proven effective in bridging the gap between his court and the others. His residents had at least started returning home, and thanks to your work, there was actually something for them to return to.
You huffed, before turning your friend around, pulling at his collar to adjust. Before tidying up his long auburn hair.
"I can’t do both though Lucien. I'm not dealing with your brothers and Tamlin. That's too much, even for me” You remarked.
Lucien’s relationship with his brothers remained strained, the scars of their shared trauma running deep. Despite Beron’s demise, Eris was now Autumn’s High Lord. The brothers wounds were not so easily healed, and the weight of their history continued to cast a shadow over their interactions.
“Plus I do believe some forced proximity may do you and Tamlin some good” you pointed a look at him, referencing their damaged friendship.
Lucien bit the inside of his cheek, his eyes narrowing at you. He couldn’t help but envy how effortlessly you seemed to navigate the complexities of every situation, every conversation. Always knowing the right words to say, and the right actions to take. Qualities that had undoubtedly drawn him to seek your assistance in the first place.
Qualities he forgot he would also be susceptible to.
"I'll look after Autumn and your hotheaded brothers. You deal with the depressed blondie," you suggested, a mischievous glint dancing in your eyes.
"Fine," Lucien conceded, begrudgingly acknowledging the wisdom in your words.
“I want Dawn, it’s my home and Thesan would be heartbroken if I wasn’t his courtier,” you asserted confidently.
"Then I'll have Day," Lucien negotiated, a hint of determination in his tone.
As the conversation turned to the remaining courts, you paused, considering the options carefully. The Night Court held a particular significance for Lucien, given his mate's presence there, but you were keenly aware of the tension that still lingered between them.
"I can take Night if that helps. I've already been the one updating their Spymaster recently anyway," you offered, your voice steady as you finally finished straightening up Lucien. Pulling your hands swiftly behind your back.
He mirrored your pose "Then I will manage Winter," Lucien conceded, a sense of resignation colouring his words. He wasn’t very fond of the cold, but neither were you.
But he was happy to take this one for you, as you had taken Autumn and Night for him.
"Summer is mine. You can have the humans, your Band of Rejects or whatever they're called," you remarked playfully.
"Exiles," Lucien corrected with a humorous purr, a brief flicker of amusement softening his eyes.
“Apologies…band of exile…-d rejects” you humoured, before you felt him nudge you with his shoulder.
Your soft laughs filled the room before you tilted your head to look at your dearest friend “Look at you now. Exiled no more. Mr. Emissary of Peace”
Lucien smiled proudly at the title, he had come a long way. This new chapter for Phrytian was daunting, but he was grateful to have you by his side “You ready?”
With a nod you grinned wide “Let’s go peacekeep the fuck out of them Lucie!”

“𝐓𝐨 𝐓𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠”
art by mahpiyaluta_
I commissioned this piece to celebrate a fic that I happened to begin writing on a whim 365 days ago, a fic that has brought me so much joy and connected me to so many incredible members of this fandom. Thank you guys :’)
This is also for @erisweek2023 because the stars aligned and it’s the final day of the event. I didn’t even realize it was the fic’s birthday until after I’d commissioned this for free day, it was an extremely happy coincidence <3
You’ll find the snippet this art is based on below the cut ↓
CHARACTERS BELONG TO SARAH J MAAS. PLEASE DO NOT REPOST, REBLOGS ARE VERY WELCOME.

Eris took a long drink from his goblet before he replied, “I’ve given the stars a secret or two over the years, but I’ve never been offered a wish in return.” He gave Azriel a devilish half-smile. “Then again, I am Eris Vanserra—nothing about me is pure, least of all my intentions.”
Azriel snorted a laugh despite himself. “I guess that’s one thing we have in common then.” But he already knew that.
Eris held his goblet out toward Azriel, “To things in common.”
Azriel hesitated. The version of Eris standing on the pebbled shore, waiting for him to echo the words was so different from the one he’d thought he’d known and yet….
Cheeks inexplicably heating, he cleared his throat. The moment was laden with possibilities Azriel didn't dare acknowledge; he couldn't bring himself to look Eris in the eye. “To things in common,” he said, their goblets meeting with a metallic clink.

Eris was trying to stay calm, using his rational thinking but he couldn’t do it. There was no rationality left in him. He just wanted to know if you were safe, even though the chances were slim.
Eris's heart sank as he checked the app Feyre had mentioned. It revealed that your phone was at the lake near the school—a clear sign that it had been discarded before you were taken. His mind raced with worry, realizing that you were indeed taken and not missing.
He took a deep breath, allowing himself a moment to feel the last bit of his emotions before shutting them off and assuming his role. His worried eyes hardened, his chest steady, and his demeanor shifted into that of a commanding presence.
Feyre watched as Eris fished out his phone and, with a cold voice, instructed Shadow to track you down.
She was worried and didn't know what was going on. Who was Shadow, and where were you? How was Eris so calm? Wasn't he more worried about you?
Eris noticed the concern in Feyre's eyes and approached her with reassurance.
“Don't worry, Ms. Archeron. I'll find her. Brandon here will escort you to one of the rooms for safety while I locate her. It's not safe to be alone right now.”
Before she could ask any more questions, he turned and headed into his office. While he appreciated Feyre for being such a good friend to you, there was no time for conversation when you were missing.
Inside, Eris approached his bookshelf and pulled on the book you had taken from him—or rather, its replacement. With a soft click, the entire shelf moved, revealing an opening to his secret room.
Eris's mind was on autopilot as he descended the stairs and used his thumbprint and voice recognition to access the mechanically locked door at the bottom of the stairs.
Inside, the room was filled with high-tech gadgets, weapons, and screens. The warm light bathed the space, giving it an inviting glow, despite its purpose. It resembled a massive closet, with weapons carefully displayed on expensive velvet walls, their deadly potential disguised by their beauty.
Eris approached the weapons, securing a harness to his shirt as he loaded every compartment with hidden knives and guns. He then put on his coat snd gloves, getting ready to get you back no matter ehat.
His phone suddenly buzzed with a message from shadow,
Found her. Warehouse by the marina. Aprox. 35 men outside and 3 inside.
Eris pocketed his phone, silently praying for your safety as he got ready to retrive you.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Your brows furrowed as you slowly regained consciousness, annoyed by the consistent dripping of water. Your vision was hazy, your head pounding, and the cold made your teeth chatter. You tried to rub your temple, but your hand met resistance.
Panic surged through you as you realized you were chained up, unable to move freely. You kept pulling, foolishly hoping the steel chains would break. Your heart raced as you took in your surroundings. You were on your knees, hands bound, with your entire body aching and your arms feeling numb. The sound of the chains rattling grew louder as you struggled against them, desperate to break free.
Fear gripped you as you recalled being taken by a stranger. Your stomach churned with nausea, and you fought back the urge to vomit as the memories flooded back.
No, no, no.
This wasn’t happening.
Panic flowed through you, making it difficult to breathe. You attempted to stay calm, but the tears welled up in your eyes, and your body shook with fear. Alone in a huge and empty room, the air heavy with the scent of salt, you felt utterly helpless and started sobbing, head hanging low.
The sound of heavy metal doors creaking open pierced the air, causing you to lift your gaze with apprehension. Three men entered, their fiery red hair immediately catching your attention. The man in the middle crouched down to your level, a smirk playing on his lips as he tilted his head, his gaze examining you.
“Finally awake from your little nap?”
You looked at him, then shifted your eyes to the other two, one of them smirking, the other stoic.
“Why am I here? Who are you? I haven’t done anything.” Your voice was hoarse and broken.
His demeanor shifted instantly, his previous amusement at your situation replaced by disgust. His smile vanished, and his eyes darkened with disdain. He straightened up, towering over you, and looked at you with a look of disgust and hate, as though you were nothing but dirt under his shoe.
“You are here as leverage. You see, my cousin killed my father and I can not let that go unpunished, right?”
The two behind him snickered and shook their heads.
Your brows furrowed again, what the hell had this to do with you at all? No one you knew could possibly be involved in something like this. And you didn’t care how rude you sounded, these fuckers kidnapped you.
“So? That still doesn’t explain why the hell i’m here. I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
The guy in the middle, Sirius the others called him, narrowed his eyes at you, a smile creeping onto his face.
“You really don’t know, do you?”
Anger surged within you, and you were just about to snap at his cryptic words, not in the mood for riddles.
“Your little fuck buddy Eris did a very bad thing when he killed my father. He made me loose a lot of money and he needs to pay for it. Now, my cousin is a very hard guy to shake down, so imagine my surprise and delight when I discovered he had a pretty little thing hidden away all to himself. The perfect negotiation piece.”
You felt like throwing up. He couldn’t be serious. Eris, the man you love, the one you thought wouldn’t hurt anyone, had done something so terrible that these men were here to punish him for it. The shock of the discovery left you confused and disoriented.
“He killed someone?” Your words were nothing more than a whisper, struggling to make sense of the situation.
Sirius chuckled darkly, his eyes glinting with malice. “Oh, he has done things much worse than that, sweetheart. But don't worry, you'll get to see for yourself soon enough.”
Realizing that Eris might be walking into a trap, you summoned your courage and flashed them a defiant smile. “Well, if that's the case,” you said, “then you're fucked.”
The big one in the back, named Aiden’s expression grew even darker, his eyes narrowing at your boldness. “And why do you think that?” he demanded.
You shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant despite the fear coursing through you.
“If what you say is true, then I assume you’re not stupid enough to try to actually lure him here. If he really did kill your father then you know how dangerous he is. And not to brag,” you added with hint of more confidence,
”But the man loves me and will most certainly kill all of you for taking me away in this pathetic attempt at a kidnapping. Listen, just let me go and I’ll make sure he doesn’t kill you.”
You watched helplessly as they approached, totally ignoring your words, their movements calculated. Ignis, the scrawny one, grabbed a length of rope from a nearby crate, his expression cruel. “You’re good. I can see why he is so infatuated with you. But you’re not going anywhere.” he said coldly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Before Ignis could make a move to bind you even more, a sudden gunshot echoed through the warehouse, causing everyone to freeze in place. Ignis stumbled backward, clutching his chest, blood seeping through his fingers.
“Shit!” Aiden exclaimed, reaching for his weapon but he was shot in the head aswell
Sirius lunged forward, a gleaming knife pressed against your throat. His expression was twisted with anger and desperation as he snarled, “If you move an inch, I’ll slit her fucking throat, Eris.”
Your heart raced as you felt the cold edge of the blade against your skin, a sob breaking from you as you realized Eris was here.
You cried, carefully breathing as to not get your neck sliced open. You watched as he carefully came out of the shadows with smoking gun and a deadly calm expression on his face. Eyes dead as his lips pulled into a smirk.
“You signed your own death when you kidnapped my girl.”
His cold and emotionless words made you shiver. He was was so different from the warm Eris you knew.
All your thoughts halted as Sirius pressed the blade harder to your throat, making you whimper in pain. You felt warm, wet liquid run down into your ahirt and you realized he had knicked you.
“You had my father killed and it made me loose millions. If you think i’m letting you or your whore get away-”
The blade on your throat dropped to the ground, as did Sirius’s body right next to you when Eris fired the gun straight into his arm. Eris stepped closer and shot both his hands, arms, legs, feet and just smiled.
“You don’t deserve a quick death. Normally, I’d handle you myself handle you but I’m on a bit of a time crunch, so I’ll leave you with him.”
With arms still bound above your head you coughed and then vomited at the feel of warmth of Sirius’s blood seeping into your pants.
Eris hurriedly made his way over to you, his hands steady as he ripped the chains from your arms, pulling you close to him. You collapsed against his chest, trembling with fear and relief as he whispered soothing words to calm you down.
After what felt like an eternity of tears and sobs, you finally managed to compose yourself, sitting up straighter and backing away slightly from Eris's embrace. Your voice was shaky as you spoke, the reality of the situation sinking in.
“So... you’re in the mafia or something? I mean, you just murdered three people in front of me, so I guess yeah.”
Eris's expression hardened, his features becoming stoic as he took in the gravity of the situation.
He glanced at you, his gaze softening as he reached out to gently touch your cheek, his thumb wiping away a stray tear.
“We need to get out of here,” he said firmly, his voice tinged with urgency. “I'll explain everything later, I promise. But right now, my priority is your safety.”
With a sense of determination, he helped you to your feet, keeping a protective arm around you, carrying you as you both made your way out of the warehouse, leaving the horrors behind you.
A man approached you both, dark haired, tall and blank look on his handsome face.
“I’ve secured the scene.”
Eris acknowledged the man with a nod of gratitude. “Your payment will be made in five minutes, good job. Sirius is in that room, I’ll leave you to it,” he said, his tone businesslike yet appreciative before leaving him to finish up as he carried you to the car.
At home, Eris helped you undress and get into the bath, staying nearby as he washed off the stress of the day. He was quiet but attentive, ensuring you felt safe and cared for throughout.
After you finished bathing, Eris handed you a fluffy towel and wrapped it around you gently, pressing a tender kiss to your forehead. He scooped you up in his arms, carrying you back to bed as if you were the most delicate thing in the world.
You snuggled closer to Eris, feeling a mix of fear and fascination about his involvement in the mafia. “I want to understand more about what you do, Eris. How did you get involved in all of this?”
Eris sighed, his expression growing somber as he recounted his family's history. “It's been a part of my family for generations,” he began, his voice tinged with resignation.
“My father was deeply involved in it, and his father before him. It's like a legacy that's been passed down, whether we wanted it or not.”
You raised your eyebrows in shock, “You’re telling me professor Beron was a mafia boss?”
Eris nodded gravely. “Yes. He built our family's empire from the ground up after my grandfather nearly lost it all. But he also brought a lot of danger and darkness into our lives. I did not have a happy or safe childhood. None of my siblings did because he always made us turn on each other and make us betray each other. It was always a scheme or plot going on because he wanted to pass the business down to someone worthy in his twisted mind.”
“And now I've brought that same misery into your life,” he says, his voice heavy with regret. “I should have left you alone. You don't deserve this. You deserve better than me. Someone who can give you the life you deserve.”
“You're wrong,” you respond firmly, looking into his eyes. “I choose to be with you, Eris. I know who you are now, and I believe in the goodness in you. It was scary, yes, but you didn’t kidnap me, they did. And now they’re gone, you protected me. Listen, I love you but if you ever suggest me being with someone else, I’ll punch you.”
Eris's eyes soften as he listens to your words, a mixture of relief and gratitude washing over him. He pulls you closer, holding you tightly against him. "I love you too, and I promise I'll do everything in my power to keep you safe. Never again will you go through what you did today. I will make sure of it." he whispers, giving you a kiss with tenderness.
You break the kiss when a brilliant plan come to mind. “You know if you gave me a gun, i’d be protected forever.”
Eris chuckles softly, his fingers tracing soothing patterns along your back. “Yeah,” he says with a teasing glint in his eyes, “you'd look pretty fucking hot with a gun. I’ll teach you how to use one of the simpler ones.” He leans in to press a gentle kiss to your forehead, his love for you evident in his actions.
“Perfect, I want you teaching me tomorrow, please.”
Eris smiles warmly at your enthusiasm. “Of course, I'll teach you everything tomorrow,” he promises. “But for now, let's focus on getting some rest. So you do, in the comfort and safety of his warm embrace.
