My Liberations Notes [Post Commentary Pt. 1 - Gu's ending + Mijeong's liberation]

Mr. Gu's actions in the ending - I haven't really seen much reviews or popular interpretations of his ending in the show, but I think his last shot is powerful towards the course of action he'll now take on his life. Storywise, my interpretation was after being betrayed, he indeed wished his hyung well, and he took his own money to pay Chairman Shin for the host bar since it was took out. I don't know why this isn't most talk about, but I think it's a big sign of him removing himself from that job and I feel hopeful it'll happen, maybe not right away and easy, but I kind of feel like that's the direction in the end. Then for his alcoholism, it did show a good sign of progress towards his sobriety. Who knows if it'll be successful, but I believe he will still get there or maybe his sickness will be more prominent and he'll die few years later, but even so, I think he'll be a bit happier.

Mijeong's liberation - I've read that one of Mijeon's liberation journey is to have self-respect and that the show failed that because she quickly forgiven Gu and still waits for him. I think that take misses the point entirely. I agree Mijeong needs to acknowledge her worth, but I believe what Mijeong wants is to feel deeply, and she only feels liberated to feel deeply when she encountered Gu. She wants to feel loved, liked and listened by her own person, and she wants to love and deeply like a person without constraints. Old Mijeong would calculate how much the other person gives her, but the new Mijeong wants to love and give much as she can because that's the way for her to feel deeply and feel the most alive. I'm not sure if I'm making sense, but that's what I do understand from it. By encountering Mr. Gu, she felt loved by her person, and this allowed her to become more courageous and feel liberated. While her worth shouldn't only be proven by Gu's affection, but his presence in her life allowed her to see things a bit better and to take more control of her life. She had the courage to get back at her nasty colleague and boss, she found a job where she feels much worthy, and she now talks and smiles a lot; and she can say now what's on her mind maybe not always, but I know she does.

I've finished watching, My Liberation Notes today, and I've found the ending peaceful and hopeful. While things may not be glossy after the credits roll out, and attaining happiness and liberation will not happen in a linear process for our characters as there'll be ups and downs along the way, but I do think the characters' will power to move forward, be happy even for five minutes a day and hold on of persons that are dear to them lead them to liberation.

I think liberation is not an end goal, but a process or a journey. When you feel happy or when you're proud of yourself for doing a small thing you think it's a bit impossible, you can say that you've been liberated. When you feel emotions after a long time of not having them, you've been liberated. When you consciously choose to love the person important to you even if his/her surroundings aren't good that good to you, you are liberated and you're choosing this kind of pain and you're willing to struggle with them because you want to be happy with them. When you choose to be kind to yourself even if you're doing bad, that's also liberation. Even when things aren't going the way you wanted it to be, even if change is becoming a bit harder and you're still going back to your old ways most of the time, those moments of struggles or weaknesses don't erase the moments you've been liberated.

These days, I've been thinking of life and how it cannot be perfect. I feel sad, but I feel happy too. I make mistakes on some days, and do good things on some days too, and I realized while watching this show that—it's okay—it should be okay. I can make progress, and I may struggle too for a lot of times, but a progress no matter how small is better than none and being harsher on myself is not always helpful. With that, I guess my concept of liberation is letting go of this perfect idea of life and accepting my flawed self—improving little by little and liking myself a bit more in the process. Filling your day with at least five minutes of trudging day by day isn't so bad for a start.

Thank you for your message Heleen 🤗 The reality of being God’s Beloved is something which I struggle with as well. That’s why I purposely put that quote on my blog as my constant reminder. I know all of us struggle with that in some way. Our personal history oftentimes steals away our belief that God loves us unconditionally. This is the biggest lie the Evil one tries to imprint on our hearts. For me, the healing & acceptance of God’s love starts when I let God touch my hurting places in prayer. When I allow myself not to feel anything & trust God that HE LOVES ME, even when everything in me wants to scream this is not true. It is a long process. We can offer God our patience. He’s doing a surgery on our open heart & it takes time. The healing comes along with our trust & perseverance in prayer. We will never experience how much God loves us unless we let Him love us. He is waiting for our ‘yes’. I am praying that we all one day stop hiding & start shining as His Beloved children. Remember, YOU ARE HIS BELOVED! Love & Prayers 🌿

im just so sad that undercover high school wasn’t 16 eps bc besides the romance there were soooo many plot lines we could have explored throughout the series that were just haphazardly shoved into the last episode

like why principal park was SO loyal to seo myung ju was easily a plot line on its own and to potentially see him struggling with his loyalty to her whilst keeping ye na safe (and sane) from her mother’s insanity would have hit soooo hard

or a full plot line on hyung bae’s betrayal and why he was associated with seo myung ju or how did hae seong’s father even smuggle the gold out and what was the final act that lead to his death

so many missed opportunities
