Friendly reminder!!

Whatever you are reading on AO3(and presumably other fanfiction sites, actually, almost anything with maybe the exception of assigned reading?) is your choice! If you don’t like it, or you even started out liking it but don’t anymore, you are always welcome to click off the story and find something else. You are welcome to not leave a kudos, and you are welcome to just not even think about it.

What isn’t welcome, is going on someone’s own story that they wrote, that they took the time to write out of their own lives, and saying you don’t like it. Unless it’s been specifically made for you, or the author requested feedback, then these kinds of comments are unnecessary and discouraging.

Fanfic writers are welcome to write for whoever they want, and that includes themselves! It’s your work! If the author wants to know what you think or suggest, they’ll say so. Otherwise, it’s a good idea to keep it to yourself.

That said, don’t forget to have fun if you’re a writer, and if you’re a reader, we writers love getting kind comments and support and it is always much appreciated.

Douxie tugs the box up close to him and randomly chooses a few tapes, blowing dust from its surface and inserting it. The tape hisses as it rewinds so he takes a moment to investigate further. Hidden below the tapes are cassettes, old letters, photographs, postcards. Some crumbles at his touch and he guesses them to be a hundred-plus years old.

He pulls a letter from its thin envelope and unfolds it with painstakingly slow movements. Unfurled, is his classic messy scrawl mixed with lines blotted out by something thicker than ink, the paper yellowed with age and the script smudged.

It reads:

Small announcement! I will finally be posting my Douxie Zine piece, Vellichor, as soon as I have some free time to format it all correctly. As a treat, you all get the author’s cut with some additional scenes now that the Zine has been out for so long! Here’s a snippet of the beginning to keep ya going:

Flecks of dust dance in the light, falling away from the heavy portrait newly hung against the wall. Young hands pass delicately over the rough, ancient frame, appearing like it might dissolve under touch. A finger trails reverently over the two figures pictured on the canvas; the taller, armored man to the left, stands with a hand on the boy’s shoulder, a magnificent staff in the other. The boy’s eyes are bright and a winsome smile graces his face, hands tucked behind him and hair pulled back into a messy bun. The man’s face is strict, but something softer shows through underneath if one knows to look.

“I miss you, old man.”

Which ship do you prefer: Jlaire or Zouxie? Why? (Based on your fics I’m nearly 100% sure that it’s Zouxie).

Absolutely Zouxie. It’s possible it’s the 900 year slow burn (for me, anyways), the mix of slightly conflicting personalities, or something else, but ever since I saw Teny’s Zouxie art I was all in, lol.

What word would you use to describe Douxie’s style (and also Zoe’s): Goth, Punk, Emo or Alt? Or maybe just rocker/rock n’ roll?

Hello non! Hmm, seeing as I myself don’t really fall into any of those categories, I can’t be positive. I would believe though that they fall under punk, both because of their beliefs (canon and implied) and style choices, but it’s possible someone who knows a bit more would have a better say on the topic!

When you say that people who ship Douxie with “the minors” are not welcome here do you mean characters like Claire, Jim, etc to be the minors? I’m just curious. I ship Zouxie by the way though that’s irrelevant.

Yes, the minors in this show being Jim, Claire, Toby, Steve, etc (the young, high school age/younger than 18 human characters) and this includes Aja and Krel, who have been confirmed to have a mental age around 16 or so even if it’s possible their lifespans are much different than human ones. Hope this helps clarify.

Hi! Are you going to continue your series “What a Life You’ve Lived?” I really hope you do, I’ve been checking in on it for more chapters regularly!

Hello non! Yes, I absolutely will be continuing it and am slowly chipping away at future installments. Unfortunately I’ve been going through a bit of a rough place mentally for the last few months and it’s really taking it out of me as far as even getting done things I’d like to. So whenever I have energy and some motivation I do try to get after those, and that fic is next on the updating list! Hopefully you can see a new chapter within a week or two.
