For the culture thing: what's a superstition in Elegancia?
In Elegancia, rubies are considered a special, lucky, and divine gemstone. Shattering a ruby is an offensive act of bad luck; you’ll get arrested for it.

food 1!
How spicy is the food, generally?
In the Unikingdom, it’s generally a mixed bag. In some areas, the food is not all that spicy. Some of it is hot, but not in the spicy way. In southern Unikingdom, the food is generally spicy, but not painfully spicy.
Frowntown’s food is generally mild. A few places have spicy food, but most of the food there is still not all that spicy.
Ice Cream Land’s food is also generally not spicy. But in some places, the food is really spicy. Ice Cream Land is, of course, known for cold food, but as I just described, not all of it is.
Mari food encompasses a wide variety of flavors, from sweet to sour to savory. Some of their food is spicy.
It’s generally considered that Botanian food gets spicier the further north you go.
Similarly, Elegancia’s food gets spicier the further east you go on the island.
Charm Valley’s food isn’t really spicy, but it does have a very sparky kick to it. It does get spicy when you turn up the sparkiness enough.

Another idea I had for the revisions is most Charm Valleyans having disyllabic names (though there are many who have monosyllabic ones, like Trey). I was thinking of changing their leader’s name to Ma-Ji (which I based on the word magic).

The Unikingdom seems to want to be a mix of Japanese and Western culture, so I think that’s what I’m going to have it be for Big Bright World. It’s intentional, and I’m very upfront about that.

An idea I have for Botania (or whatever its name will be) is that its capital city is based on plant cells, and its name is Eukaryota or something like that. Like, the Tree of Vitality (or whatever I change it to) is located in a square based on the nucleus. There’s a post office, shipping service, or warehouse based on the Golgi apparatus. And I had the idea that there’s a train station somewhere called the Central Dogma Station, named for how cells make proteins.
I dunno. I just had the idea that, along with agriculture, Botania’s culture is based around life science and understanding. I mean, Dr. Fox is Botanian on her dad’s side in this AU. Also, I imagine that Botanians literally invented a lot of scientific theories and principles, and long before any of the other lands at that.

I’m planning on updating Waterlily’s design so, just like real jellyfish, she doesn’t have any eyes.
I learned today that moon jellies don’t have eyes, and they have these structures called rhopalia that detect light and help them move around.
So I was thinking that Waterlily (and also her family, probably) don’t have eyes, but they get around in their own ways. This can be comparable to human blindness or low vision.

I plan to start revising the Big Bright World AU with Marili, in observance of Mermay.
Marili is the words marine and life put together, with their endings chopped off. It’s pronounced mar-EE-lie. The demonym is Mari, which is pronounced like marine, but without the end sound.
It’s still going to be called Marevi in the Spanish, Italian, French, and Portuguese versions.

Happy birthday, @jezabatlovesbats!! Made the playlist for her OCs into a video that Tumblr refuses to properly show DX
I should probably start sharing playlists on Tumblr more often 🤷♀️
Especially, of course, if I make a drawing like this for them:
Of course, this is your warning invitation to go check out @unikittybigbrightworldau 'cause big things are coming there soon!

Jezabat’s Self-Indulgent 20th Birthday Spectacular

I don’t have the energy to do a big fancy thank-you post this time. But as of today, I have existed on this planet for two decades.
I spent the past few days doing some doodles of whatever popped into my head. I forgot to add that I STILL haven’t played Brothership yet because of school, but man, am I looking forward to it.
I’m also looking forward to what I have planned for the future. I hope to start revising Big Bright World and other stuff soon, and once again, feedback is welcome! That being said, what do you think of my redesign concepts for BBW’s characters?

Here are some concepts for how I could redesign the Seagang. Feedback is welcome.
Also, I plan on changing the name of their kingdom to Marili.

I’m going to start by saying that if I could get rid of any of the lands, it would be Swan Lake. To be honest, it’s the land that I feel the least interested in developing, and I feel like it’s a little too similar to Elegancia.
So then, where would Swanna be from? She and Lee could be from Elegancia instead. Swans are considered elegant animals, and it would make sense for how she and Sgt. Wolf know each other.
I also want to change Marevi’s name, since its name is based on the Latin words for sea and life.
And I might replace Swan Lake with another land that has other kind of creatures in it. I’ve got monsters, aliens, and robots in this world…

Because of this, I’m closing the ask box and submission box for now, but my DMs are wide open in case you’d like to give me some feedback.
On this, the seventh anniversary of the Big Bright World AU (which was actually yesterday, so I'm a day late, but don't worry about it), I'm announcing that I want to make adjustments to its worldbuilding and its story.
I'd really like to flesh out all the lands much more and make use of the cultures I created for them. I want to make use of the worldbuilding I came up with for this AU as well. I want to make changes to the characters, like redesigning them, changing their names to fit with their homelands' traditions, and providing more information about them. I want to add more variety to their designs, too. A big bright world is made up of people with all kinds of different features, even if the lands aren't based on any real countries or cultures. I also want to make revisions to the story and the lore.
I'd also like to make wiki pages for the canon characters and locations, and illustrate their differences compared to their canon counterparts.
So, expect to see all of that in the future. I'm doing it to polish my writing, and to ensure that Big Bright World can be enjoyed by anyone! Not everyone's going to like it, of course- I know there's always going to be someone who doesn't. But I just want to make sure that it's, y'know, enjoyable for people.
When I asked for some tips, I was suggested to treat the characters like human characters and have them interact in a way that's true to them. I was also suggested to treat any research I do as a learning process and an exploration game.
If any of you have your own feedback for me, come on up and offer! The Big Bright World AU is constantly being revised and updated, and I'm always looking for ways to improve it!

Welcome to the apocalypse. I hope you like leather.
The other option on my poll was to draw the characters in apocalyptic clothes. These are the characters during the Doompocalypse, which is the point in this AU’s story where the Doom Lords, after years of plotting, unleash an all-out attack on everyone and attempt to take over the world. Now, everyone has to come together to strike them down once and for all.
I almost forgot to draw Richard in the Unigang’s drawing. Mabel strongly assists them and the Unikingdom Resistance, helping them lead the kingdom’s citizens and provide for them. Lee‘s had to use a much dirtier backpack since his day pack was stolen away. At a much earlier time, Master Frown left the Doom Lords, and he and Brock are also married by this point. When the Doom Lords raided the Ice Cream Bowl Palace and stole things from the people living there, Sgt. Wolf made some makeshift armor to protect them.
Back in the 20s, Marevians saw electricity as a prominent symbol of rebellion against a rather harsh king. Now, in solidarity with Waterlily, the Marevians are turning to paint as a form of resistance against the Doom Lords because of Splatoon. The girls of the Botania Quartet joined Zora to help him with his job, since Verdant Express deliverers began working extra hard to keep everyone fed. Trey, whose costume design skills have greatly improved, fashioned himself a sturdy costume, pinning his pendant to a glove so he’d be ready to cast a spell in his dangerous surroundings.
And, @erin-epica, these aren’t what my characters would look like in Negative Space. I have specific redesigns in mind for that!
[Image Description: The cast of Big Bright World during the Doompocalypse.
Image 1: The Unigang. Unikitty is wearing round, cracked sunglasses and a worn scarf; she has a bandage on her right cheek. Puppycorn is wearing a hat with a torn back panel and an open jacket. He has a bandaid over his snout. Dr. Fox is wearing a bandana tied behind her head, a bandolier with explosive cans on it, and a pair of boots. Hawkodile is wearing a tank top, some cargo pants, and some unlaced boots. He has some stubble on his beak. Richard also has some stubble, plus a comedic cleft chin. He has an eyepatch with a pierced heart on it, and there is a scar on his other eye. Swanna has a cracked pair of goggles, a square bandaid on her beak, and a bandaged right forearm. She is wearing a long-sleeved shirt, a curvy vest, some pocketed pants, and dance boots. On her back, she has a quiver of arrows and her bow, but only a part of her bow can be seen. The leaf on Lee’s stem is gone, and parts of his head are scraped. The left side of his head is all bandaged up. He is wearing a pair of reflective goggles, and he has a dirty, worn backpack.
Image 2: Mabel. She has a chip in her face and in her nose. There is sparkly gel painted over her eyes, like Unikitty in the episode Rainbow Race. Her leaf-like hair is tied back into two messy ponytails. She has a worn-out hat with a torn visor, and a bandana around her forehead. She also has a torn tie around her neck. She is wearing an overalls-like garment with a belt and large pockets; it is buttoned down at the center left. There are also stony shoulder pads, some pants that are stitched back together on the left leg, and some hard boots. Her bottom right arm is bandaged, and in her left hand, she is holding a metal hockey stick.
Image 3: The Frowntown Trio. Brock and Master Frown are wearing their desert wasteland garbs from Rainbow Race. Brock has a pair of goggles and a large scarf with a strap beneath it. Master Frown has a hood with spikes on it, shoulder pads with one spike on each of them, and a large scarf with a strap under it. Imogen has on a cloak with a swirling cloud pattern on it. She has a bodysuit on beneath it. There are three gems on the hood at her forehead, and many gems bordering her cape. Her glasses are taped together, and she is holding her wand close to her.
Image 4: The Ice Cream Trio. Germafrost has a square bandaid on his right ear and a brace on his left arm. Having been attacked by the Doom Lords, he has a black eye. He is wearing a big, spiky collar with a Neapolitan stone at his neck and a long, transparent cape. Piano’s wool looks deflated and somewhat melted. Her glasses are cracked, and she is wearing a simple long-sleeved shirt and some simple pants. She is wearing another shirt beneath it. On her outer shirt, there is a pocket on the upper right, which Piano hooked a pen to. Sgt. Wolf is holding her sword, which has been chipped, and a shield, which has been dented. She has on a large bowl that’s chipped in several places and broken at the bottom for her ears; Ice Cream Landers use bowls as helmets. She is also wearing a fluffy collar, some gauntlets, some boots, a jacket that she slit in the front, a chestplate that she painted a waffle pattern on, and leggings that also have a painted waffle pattern. Both sides of her face have been scratched, and some of her eyelashes have been cut.
Image 5: The Marevi Quintet, or Seagang. All five of them are wearing wristbands. Waterlily’s hair tentacles are loose and tied back into a low ponytail. There are stones, seaweed, and algae on her bell, and there’s some paint on her face. She has a bag around her shoulder. She is wearing a top with multiple paint splats on it. There is a large sash around her bottom bell that’s tied at her side, which also has a paint splat. She has a bandage on her right forearm. Shelltop has seaweed on his shell. Since his shell was cracked a lot on the left side, he also has bandages on it. His left forearm is bandaged as well. His face is painted with an eruption pattern. He is wearing a sleeveless top, a vest with a vertical pattern painted on it, some gloves, a long scarf, and a close-fitting wrap around his tail. Spike has messy spines and a pair of round glasses. His bottom eyelids are saggy. He is wearing a long coat with a high neck, his sun necklace, and a long poncho with sun patterns painted on it. He is holding his guitar case. Marcella has her hair tucked beneath a large hat with seaweed wrapped around it, and a grass-like pattern painted on it. She is wearing slightly cracked goggle glasses, and there are gold bar patterns painted on her face. She is also wearing a zipped-up jacket that is also painted with a grass-like pattern and a close-fitting wrap on her tail. Her tail fin, which was scratched, has a bandage on it. She is holding a small sword that Marevian swordspeople use, with barbed wire from the surface wrapped around it. Her dad’s satchel is hung on her shoulder, and there is a place cut in the side for the sword to be hung up in. Cream is wearing a headband and painted headphones, and his hair is styled in a large top puff. There is a seaweed pattern painted on his face, and a larger pattern on the Inkling-ish suit he is wearing. He also has a bandolier with two zipped pockets on it, as well as some gloves. He is holding a can of explosive yeast in his left hand.
Image 6: The Botania Quartet, or the Landgang. Kira’s hair is longer, and she is wearing part of a spiked nut on her head. There are small twigs and leaves in her hair. There is a bandage on her left cheek, and some bandages on her left forearm. She is wearing a bandana, a spiked shoulder pad on her right shoulder, some gloves, a top with vertical stripes, some pants, some boots, and some kneepads. Her right kneepad is cracked. She also has a strap with a button at the center that has a paw print on it. There is a bag on her left shoulder. Allegra’s hair is styled in cornrows, some of which have beads on them. Six of them are looped around and tied together to resemble a flower. She is wearing a shirt with striped sleeves that have thumb holes, a vest with pockets, some pebble bracelets, a pair of shorts with a vertical squiggle pattern, leggings with multiple holes, and unlaced boots. She has a small bag with a rose button on it. Bia has her hair tied into two ponytails, one with a small wire and another with a necklace chain. There is a small scratch on her face. There are some goggles hanging around her neck. She is wearing elbow-high gloves, her flight aids, a sleeveless dress, some tights, and some boots. She also has an apron, but one of the corners is torn off. It also has a patch on the bottom and a belt. On the belt, there’s a small pouch, a hammer, and a small saw in a sheath. Zora is wearing a spiky nut as a helmet, with holes poked out for his antennae. His hair is styled in a long, messy braid. His goggles are cracked and taped, and his bandana is torn. He has a backpack on him that is hidden by his wings. He is wearing a top made of leaves, some shoulder pads, two bandoliers with small torches on them, some gloves, a pair of pants, a spiked kneepad on his left knee, and some hard boots. His right leg is in a cast made of small aloe leaves.
Image 7: Trey. His hair is ragged, and his ponytail and bangs are shorter. There is a scratch on his left ear. He has an earring of a magic spark on his left ear, and an earring of a swirl of air on his right ear. On his head, he has an inspection glass with a star on it. He is wearing an armored costume with shoulder pads, a short chestplate, knee-high boots, gloves, a skirt, and a belt that points downwards. His arms, legs, and torso are covered by flexible, wearable metal. His pendant is pinned to the glove on his left hand.
