OKAY SO I KNOW EVERYONE IS ALL EXCITED ABOUT THE WAY AZIRAPHALE LOOKS AT CROWLEY BUT
Crowley is wrapped around Aziraphale’s little finger? Like holy shit?
He pretends to be annoyed and put out about it, but he will do whatever Aziraphale asks of him (and more that Aziraphale can’t bring himself to ask it seems like).
Helping Shakespeare, saving Aziraphale in France, saving Aziraphale *and* his books in WW2, blowing the paint off his coat, and literally stopping time to buy them a few seconds to plan even though Satan is bearing down upon them all because Aziraphale threatened to stop talking to him.
And the way he does these things, you know it’s just…how he is with Aziraphale. You know these things happen often - Crowley grumbling or rolling his eyes as he does something nice for the angel, because while Crowley wants Aziraphale to be happy, he can’t stand the thought of Aziraphale knowing that Crowley wants him to be happy.
Like Tennant said - he loves him, and he hates that he loves him, because he’s infuriating, he’s ridiculous, he’s an angel, and yet he’s…he’s everything that Crowley seems to need. Aziraphale once said that Crowley went too fast for him, but Aziraphale is always there when Crowley needs to slow down, needs to breathe (so to speak).
They were meant to be divided from one another, separate, opposites, enemies, even, but over the millennia that backfires, spectacularly and completely, until the demon Crowley finds himself on his knees in a burning bookshop, screaming for the angel Aziraphale.
And then he goes and gets shitfaced because he thinks Aziraphale is dead and he can’t cope with it

I move like a shark when I’m in public. Head down. I think I’ve got quite a bad posture because of it, because I’m determined to lead a normal life. So I just move too quickly for anyone to register if it’s me or not. And I don’t walk around with six security men and big sunglasses and a bizarre coat. I really try to meld in.

Pinnochio
Tumblr media
I was first introduced to this drama by the following words:
“So the premise of the show is really interesting in that it takes place in a world where some people suffer from ‘Pinnochio Disease’ which means they can’t tell a lie without hiccuping.”
“And this premise has nothing to do with the plot whatsoever.”
And I haven’t looked back since.
This show blew my mind, as did the actors. I fell in love with each and every one of them - even the villains (especially the villains). I don’t want to go too much into it in case I spoil it for anyone, but the cyclic nature of the whole show was a fantastic exploration into the saying 'what goes around comes around’. The circularity of characters falling from grace and finding redemption in the most unexpected places was frankly a level of poetic I did not expect to find in my first foray into k-dramas. The pace and timing of the show is perfect; a delicious slow-burner that I blazed through in one month across two countries (having to take a 36 hour break in the middle to process my emotions).
My favourite things about the show were the two main ideas that I felt kept the whole thing turning.
1. Like oil rising above water, the truth will always come to the surface.
2. Words will always find their way to the people that need to hear them.
The show never gave me what I wanted when I expected it; everything came to light in its own time, and in its own way - and the way the truth unfurls each episode is thoughtful, clever and unbelievably cathartic. Every episode was a surprise.
Honestly? I’m not even sure it has a genre. I’d say romance, were that not an incredible oversimplification of the series itself. It is, at its core, a love story. Love is the real driver beneath everything, and gives the show its momentum but it extends its reach across so many different characters and situations. The love between childhood sweethearts; between a mother and her children; between orphans and their adoptive families; empathy and kindness to strangers; taking care of your colleagues and your company; the responsibilities and duties you owe to the public. But not one of these bonds goes unchallenged or unexplored, and each episode was a revelation.
Sidenote: The other thing I loved about the show was the very real, tangible way they followed the transition from school to the world of work, and the struggle that often accompanies searching and applying for jobs. From In-ha crying as she checks out people’s groceries to her parents reaction to the living conditions of a junior reporter, the struggle was real and visceral and it made the pay-offs so much more worth celebration.
Pinnochio was one hell of a journey. It had more layers than Shrek’s infamous onion, and a whole lot of heart.
tl:dr A lot of love went into this series, and it shows. If you’re not hooked by the end of the first episode, I don’t know what to tell you.
(Pros: the opening sequence is a real bop)
(Cons: I cried 4 separate times in the finale)

A very, very long time ago, long before the birds, cars, and even coffee beans, the seven gods of the seven lands created the dueling truths: love and war.
