I’m worried that fanonization might ruin Sanders Sides. As the hiatus goes on for longer, the idea of the fanon sides being equal to the canon sides roots deeper into peoples minds. Now, Thomas has 3 routes he might go with.

First is writing the series similar to the fanon interpretation. I know he says he doesn’t read the fanfics nor gives big plot stuff to the writer’s room, however he’s not completely cut off from fanon. What I mean is incorrect quotes and fanart. Now, reading and looking at these things isn’t necessarily bad, but with such a disconnect between canon and fanon as well as Joan (who some consider to be the main reason TSS is so good) being out of the picture, it can be very easy to accidentally affirm some of these fanon ideas.

Second is to try his best to stick completely to canon. This would be difficult seeing as how much the arcs of some characters like Logan’s are moving closer to fanon.

Finally, a mix of canon and fanon interpretation of the characters. Now, this is probably what’s happening now but the problem is how much closer to fanon he’s leaning towards.

Just sticking to Logan here, his slight and entertaining meanness was fun and a good way to start a positive arc. However, as we see in DWIT and WTIT, he’s moving towards a positive arc that starts from him feeling ignored. Now, this would be all well and good if he was actually that ignored. Most of the problems that occur in the episodes have the sides listen to him and solve the problem. Having this arc would be okay if there was a concrete basis for it. With this set-up, he can come off as overreacting. A logical conclusion to the arc based off of his past behavior would be him learning how he’s blowing things out of proportion. But with the “retconned” (I say it like that because his past interactions don’t line up with his reaction now) set-up, it seems like the way they would conclude the arc is with Logan “finally being listened to”.

Now, this is all speculation but it does seem like it’s finishing that way. All I can hope for is that his arc ends logically with him finding out that it’s all just an overreaction like the character would have wanted.

I don’t have much to add to this. I hope the series either starts feeling like…separate from the fandom again or fizzles out at this point, honestly.

Honestly, I love fanon Logan. But that's because I thought it wouldn't become canon. Those fanfics include non-canon scenarios and change canon scenarios for the fanfiction to work.

There's not enough in actual canon to give Logan a proper "not ignored, now dark" style arc. It can only be held up in fanon.

Canon Logan can be a bit of an asshole, but quite a few Logan stans either look away or distort it to make the character fit his fanon characterization.

Even though I love the character and reading fanfiction about it, the direction his arc is going is not healthy for anyone in the series.

i actually. don't really mind canon logan at all? I personally don't love fanon logan but i love the fact that people love his character enough to write fanfic and draw fanart. Like it's amazing that there's even a community to do that.

But the thing that is just. kind of annoying is that - like you said - fanon logan is NOT canon logan. The way he acts is canon is actually very different from the way fandom says he does yet many people try to say that their interpretation of him is canonical.

Like yes! He's a bit of an asshole! That makes him interesting (and literally all of the sides are kind of assholes sometimes..) and trying to make all his actions out to be completely justifiable is 1) just plain wrong and 2) annoying.

so yeah. I think fanon sides are really cool actually! But like...the way that fanon has been...idk like pushing more and more into the actual series is indicative of a problem with the writing i think

guys… season two started on september 1, 2017. it’s 2023 and the finale hasn’t even been fully filmed yet. what the entire fuck that puts so much into perspective

why on EARTH is it taking an entire team of people like five to six YEARS to finish a SINGLE SEASON??????? THERES ONLY BEEN THIRTEEN EPISODES SO FAR??????????

dam that sucks 💔💔 i like sanders sides but the fandom is just so . icky and annoying

i made a post on my blog for the first time in months talking abt how i left the fandom mainly bc logan and his stans made me mad , and of course within hours a logan stan replied trying to argue with me .

i wish people could just be chill and not fight over which characters are innocent angels and what the team should have done . i want to be able to just enjoy fan content without worrying abt the discourse , but thats so hard on most bigger tumblr fandoms sadly

And yeah, I feel that so much with sanders sides. I want to enjoy the characters as they are: nuanced characters with multiple facets, many flaws and many talents. They are all loveable and hateable in their own ways, and I don't really hate any of them, I just hate the fan narrative around some of them. I wish I saw less debate about which side was the best in terms of.......good deeds vs. bad deeds? I wish there wasn't as much fighting over whether or not you can enjoy a character. I wish we could coexist and have fun and not worry about whether or not we'll get hate for (*glances at writing on palm*) making fan content about the characters were in the fandom for.

And the discourse is out of hand for sure, and its just...annoying. And sad, kind of, that theres nothing in this fandom that doesnt have some sort of discourse surronding that (and sometimes thats good! sometimes the "discourse" is actually just people trying to say "hey this thing a lot of fans are doing is shitty and they should stop" and people have to argue the valid point.)

And yeah! This does tend to happen in bigger fandoms! But its so exhausting here, maybe because of the nature of the show or maybe because I was in the fandom before it was like this. But it's just tiring, and I hate that I have such negative feelings surronding the show because of it :/

im considering rejoining the fandom as someone who left 90% because logan sucks that much . but i gotta know from a source i can trust , has it gotten any better ? did his simps calm down with their angst at all ?

Being completely 100% honest, I haven't really interacted with the fandom beyond this blog in a loooong time. I look at the tags sometimes just for art and stuff, but I haven't been following many blogs or anything.

I don't really know if its gotten better. I don't think it's gotten worse since I last was super involved in it. From the tags it seems like maybe some of the discourse has died down? At least in the main circles? But I haven't seen the same level of like...community as I saw when I first joined. It seems like different fans are split up into different circles, which is fine!! Thats ok!! And it's always been a little bit like that! But it just seems more obvious to me now. But, again, I'm not deep into it so I don't know the ins and outs of whats going on

As for the logan simps....I also don't know!! I haven't checked those tags in a longgg time (but I might go glance now just to see lol)

I still enjoy the show and I still enjoy fanart for it so I'm mostly sticking around for that. I still adore most of the characters and I like talking about them so this blog will stay semi-active for the foreseeable future.
