OC: Sekai Ishida
Made more Sekais in Picrew. Also added links to said picrews in the image decription. :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a sequel to my original post about Sekai here. Also gives me an excuse to drop more character lore.
Yes; "Ishida Sekai/Sekai Ishida" is a pun on "Isekai". I thought it was clever and grew attached.
Young adult. Feels like he missed out on a "typical" child/teenage-hood.
Identifies as genderfluid/non-binary. He/Whatever.
Was born with Spinal Bifida - Myelomeningocele type. Required a crap-ton of surgeries as an infant just to be able to move. Hydrocephalus as an newborn led to mild Cerebral Palsy (had to get a shunt put in to drain out excess CSF). As an adult he experiences; muscle weakness, partial paralysis of his facial muscles and legs, bowel and urinary issues (TMI), poor eyesight (legally blind), latex allergy, insomnia, anxiety, and neuro-divergency.
Walks mainly with crutches and leg braces. Uses wheelchair for long journeys.
Birth parent legally abandoned him - Sekai suspects it was financially motivated. Was put into Catholic orphanage where he spent most of his life. Was able to graduate from high school, albeit with great difficulty and numerous supports. At the start of his story, he's attending career training.
Amateur metalhead. Orginally got into it as a rebellion against his religious caretakers, ended up finding acceptance in punk metal community. Is wearing a Rob Zombie t-shirt under his hoodie.
Main social interactions pre-story are between fellow career trainees, members of his church (still attends to say hi), and people he befriended online.
Has experienced different levels of ableism throughout his life, mainly from strangers, but most harshly from a caretaker at the orphanage when he was a young child. This left Sekai with an extreme fear and paranoia of being targeted for his disability.
Has a reactionary temper, and has gotten himself into trouble for his aggressive behaviour. Kind of person to loudly announce if someone is blocking the sidewalk or taking up space on the train. He will not be ignored.
Favourite food is curry rice and pumpkin croquettes. Fave drink is anything peach flavoured. Most of his meals are from late-night convenience stores, vending machines, and cafeterias.
Isn't sure what he wants to be in life. Draws a lot. Story lore under Read More!
Story kicks off when Sekai falls (pushed?) off a train platform into the path of a bullet train. As he fell, the chaotic event opened a portal to Untrid - a high-fantasy realm that's been experiencing increased instances of portal malfunctions.
Tumblr media
Sekai sees a lot of weird stuff as he falls through the portal. Land shifting and rising, seas parting and drying, the moon cycle of an alien sky, people in other times and places also falling, etc... probably not important.
As his fall through reality comes to a screeching halt; Sekai is met by a soft, welcoming face. This is the God of Gifts of this realm, and its duty is to grant boons and "starting bonuses" to the new souls of the world. Normally this means *newborns*, but the cheerful axolotl-shaped God figures *newcomers to the realm* fit the bill too.
Tumblr media
The God of Gifts, joyfully: "Grown souls tend to ask me for complicated things. Babies rarely ask for anything more than warmth or food or the inherent ability to wield fire. If you have any requests, I will do my best to meet it." :) Sekai, existentially terrified/angry: "Give me back my crutches, you jerk!" The God of Gifts: "OK!" :D (*Sekai's crutches boomerang back to him from the void, he quickly reorients himself*) The God of Gifts: "Good luck out there!" :D Sekai, more lucid: "Wait, what?" (*Sekai suddenly slams onto a train track glitched into the landscape of a dense grass landscape. In the distance he sees the pinpricks of civilisation.*) Sekai, realsing: "Wait - did that fucker mean he could have given me anything!?"
Sekai is PISSED.
At first he tries to reason with himself that he's experienced a "glitch in the matrix", and that he's just in a rural area along his train route. He starts following the tracks towards the village in the distance.
Bad Idea! Bad idea! Locals take one look at him and argue in a language he can't recognise. A few get aggressive and try manhandling him. Sekai realises that the village is distinctly not rural Japan, and not exactly in the current millennium.
Running into the forest to avoid a potential hate crime; Sekai is soon tired, thirsty, freaking out, body hurting, and his whole concept of reality is breaking down. That's when he meets Wormwood - a demon who only seems to be visible in reflections and shadows.
Wormwood: "You seem lost, flatfoot. Mind if I-" Sekai, fed up: "I don't even f*cking care anymore! If you want to possess my body or something, just hop in! I really need someone to take the wheel right now!" Wormwood, surprised: "Damn, alright. I didn't even need to ask!" (*The demon "hops" into Sekai's body.... and very little seems to happen*) Wormwood, as an inner voice: "This is odd. Your limbs are stiff and I cannot seem to feel certain parts of your body. Are you not a man crippled by misfortune or illness?" Sekai, still able to move body: "Nah. I was born like this." Wormwood: "Hmm, this isn't ideal. I will exit your body and find a more mobile host." Sekai, offended: "Hey, f*ck you, man!" >:( Wormwood: "It is not a criticism of your form, but of your ability to aid me in my goals. I bid that you'll find another entity to meet your needs. Adieu!" (*a moment passes and no change seems to occur*) Wormwood, confused: "Why can't I leave?" Sekai: "Depends, where you at in there?" Wormwood: "I possess others through their brains and nervous system." Sekai: (*cackling!*) Wormwood, getting nervous: "Please explain!" Sekai: "Dude! Part of my brain is messed up from birth stuff. I think you're in the not-working department!" XD Wormwood: "What!? I have never heard of such a thing! If you'll bring me to an exorcist post-haste, we'll shall rectify this!" Sekai: "Hmm... maybe I won't." Wormwood: "What." Sekai, devious: "I might be new to this world, but I have an inkling that keeping a demon trapped in here might give me an advantage!" >:3 Wormwood: "You son of a cow." Sekai: "Hey! You're the one who agreed to help me out! You should have asked for more details before you shook on it!" Wormwood, flustered: "You sir, are worse than a demon!"
So yeah, now our isekai'd homie got a demon stuck in his brain, crutches that he never seems to lose (thanks, GOG!), and he's stuck in a fantasy realm that seems to have a history of people falling out of the sky.
Side effects of being possessed by a strange woodland demon include; spontaneous antler growth, weak ghostly limbs and/or tentacles made from shadows emerging from body, a constant inner voice (of said demon), being able to understand the local language (as the demon hears it), and taking occasional holy damage when in the proximity of Paladins. But hey! Free demon Alexa!
Tumblr media
Sekai eventually runs into another "Off-Worlder" aka "Flatfoot" (as people from other dimensions appear to have flatter feet), and thats when the story really begins...

People seem to be undecided on whwther or not Kobolds are lizard or canine-based magical creatures, so I bring you a compromise;
Cynodonts
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reptile? Yes.
Mammal? Yes
Lives underground? Also yes!!
Kobolds being an intelligent race that managed to survive a couple of extinction events simply because they were minding their own business.

I have a horrible oc; Wormwood the Freelance Aberration
Wormwood started his life as a normal lone wizard, until he foolishly decended into the dungeon alone. Dying at the bottom of an abyssal crypt, he vowed to pledge his soul to whomever could save him.
Something answered.
Wormwood was saved by a being not known to people of his realm. The being granted him terrible powers and deformities to save himself and escape the dungeon. His body more liquid than flesh, he became a being cross between a symbiote, the Dunwich Horror, and the bright eyed wizard he had once been.
Then he meets Sekai - someone who has just been reincarnated from our world into his, with their memories and physical form intact.
Wormwood sees this isekai protag and immediately freaks out. Cus they’re essentially an alien
Wormwood is an demi-eldritch being, no different than a gibbering mouther, a sharn, or just a pile of dark magic in a cloak, and is freaked out by young, educated, well-groomed people suddenly popping up in his world cus “Yo, theres *more* alternate universes!?!”
His goal is to create a crack team of fellow otherworldly beings, be they uploaded by an ai, reincarnated into the world, or just spawned in.

Isekai character that got flung into the fantasy world cus they were a loophole in the “No Man of Woman Born”-type prophecy via existing before the species was a thing.
Caveperson fantasy hero
Big Bad Evil Guy: “Impossible! No man of-”
*BONK*
Isekai’d Cavewoman named Grunge holding a club: “Grunge no man. Grunge Neanderthal!”
Is completely cool with all the diff fantasy races except Humans, cus they grew up in a time when multiple hominid supspecies/sister species were being out-competed by early Humans.

I wanna introduce y'all to an oc/story concept I've had for a while now.
Tumblr media
Oc created using the "Bright's Picrew Hell" since I am terrible at drawing.
Basically its a parody and deconstruction of an Isekai story - aka "character is teleported/reincarnated into another world" (for example KonoSuba, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Digimon etc.)
The main character of this idea is Sekai Ishida; a gloomy shut-in with cerebral palsy and spinal bifida who's dealing with having aged out of the foster system and finding supports for his disability. Sekai was minding his own business going to career training when;
Tumblr media
Sekai, being physically disabled, is unable to climb out of the way of a speeding subway car when he stumbles (or was tripped) onto the tracks. He closes his eyes.
He awakens to find himself dumped through a portal to a magical fantasy world.
When the many gods greeting him in the space between worlds ask him if he wishes for a boon to bring with him into this new life; Sekai impulsively replies "Give me back my crutches."
Well shit now he's just some Japanese guy with severe mobility issues in a dnd-inspired medieval kingdom with no fighting experience or magical add-on. What's a guy to do?
Wormwood; an Aberrant demon looking for a host: "
Tumblr media
Wormwood: "Hey you wanna-" Sekai, already fed-up: "Whatever, sure." (*shakes hand*) Wormwood: "Damn, ok. Didn't even need a sales pitch." Workwood: (*painfully merges into Sekai's body*) Wormwood: "...damn bitch, you live like this?" Sekai: "Yeah." Wormwood: "I can't even look into parts of your brain." Sekai: "Yeah those don't work." Wormwood: "Screw this, I'm finding another off-worlder for my plans." (*nothing happens*) Wormwood: "...why can't I leave?" Sekai: "HAH! You're trapped in here with me!" Wormwood, tentacles waving frantically: "I can't even move your legs!" Sekai, gestures to crutches, laughing manically: "Neither can I!" Wormwood: "You are evil."
So now Sekai has one thing going for him; an inky symbiote-esque demon thats trapped in his body that's pretty keen on keeping Sekai alive. For now.
Also, you know how the demon mentioned "off-worlders"?
Yeah. Sekai isn't the only one.
It's a frequent phenomena in the magical kingdom, to the point that there are new laws in place to deal with people that fall through.
Notably:
Report immediately to the King.
Surrender all technology and/or organics to the crown.
Any accompanying animals will be quarantined or destroyed.
If it looks like nothing fell out of a portal hole - no it didn't. Evacuate the area immediately.
Off-Worlders should avoid making deals with spirit and/or demons, as they are an untapped source of raw magical life force (Sekai: "Oops"), and can cause the world around them to glitch and break down since they're essentially aliens.
Its not always human either. Dogs, cats, birds, and trilobites frequently wander/fall in. Imagine the utter terror of villagers used to dragon when they see a saltwater crocodile for the first time.
It's not always humans or organic things that fall in though. Like in Digimon where a subway car or a fridge full of eggs would randomly glitch in.
The ultimate common denominator is people and things that have experienced "glitches in the matrix"-style disappearances and have just... disappeared back in their home time/dimension. Oh yeah, people from completely different cultures and universes can fall through too.
Sekai (and his tag-along wormwood) occassionally fall into other universes due to Wormwood's own research into interdimensional travel. It was the very reason he sought out a host - someone proven to be able to handle the trip. Sekai hates this. HATES THIS. Let him have junk food and video games again!

The isekai idea sketches, ignore how miserable the guy looks and my bad sence of humor
ignore the kobold ask too
Ref.
OC DRAWINGS!?
TYSM!!! <3
I love your Kobold designs - somewhere between dogs and rodents with human characteristics. They likely have very little fur save for those living in places where there's harsh winters.
DnD has them be lizard-like, so I'm wondering if that would translate into them being "mammal-like reptiles" (my main inspo being Cynodonts), having all the physical traits of mammals save for the fact that they lay eggs.
In mythology they could take the form of feline and mustelid animals like martens and "wet-looking cats", basically any creature that could make its home underground. Some old accounts put them at the height of a human four-year old/toddler. Short dudes.
One cool design I've seen is by the amazing @pocketss; who I believe has the best depiction of goblins ever.
Communal and hard-working, they often get looked over or taken advantage of by the other races. They are closest to humans, and will frequently "adopt" themselves into a household - especially if the humans decided to build their home just above a kobold burrow. This led to the perception that they are "house-spirits", depite the fact that they pay rent.
Kobolds are interesting creatures to think about mythology-wise, since they're prevalent all over mainland Europe in someway, and influenced a lot of modern culture. The name for the ore "Cobalt" even derives its name from "Kobold" - the toxic ore's effect blamed on magic. Now I'm thinking they would have a preference for deep blues.
One old phrase; "laugh like a kobold" means to laugh openly and heartily. Which makes me think of this photo of a pair of mole;
Tumblr media
And SEKAI, MY BOY!!
That feel when you get tossed into a fantasy setting but you got cerebral palsy and spinal bifida, and the demon you tried to make a deal with is now stuck in the inactive parts of your brain and wants to rip the world apart.
Sekai is pissed. He misses everything to do with living in a modern metropolis. He misses snacks he didn't even care about. He misses bathrooms with toilet paper. His shitty futon. Watching tv. Public transport.
Once he finds what asshole caused him to be here, he's punching him.
I love how you've drawn his baggy clothing and his messy hair. Not one for personal grooming he is. The way his clothes bows to his form is so cool. My dude still has the backpack he had on when he got isekai-d on the subway.
And Wormwood extending out of him like branches is such an amazing concept. Wormwood is somewhere between a nature spirit and a symbiote - all goopy on his own, but when anchored becomes something "else".
if Sekai's life ever gets truly threatened and Wormwood is forced to "take the reins"; they would transform into something that don't look natural to anyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other Character: "What in the gods name is that!?" Sekai, transformed: "Sorry, I got a parasite."
I have so many thoughts about fantasy and how someone who "very much doesn't want to be there* would deal with it.

Btw I've been making a playlist for my Isekai story idea;
Sekai's main inspo bops are "Devil's Train" by The Lab Rats (him getting teleported and meeting Wormwood), and "You're Not Welcome" by Naethan Apollo (Sekai going nuts on an antagonist after him and Wormwood strike a balance).

been thinking/conceptualising interactions between my isekai oc Sekai and his personal demon Wormwood
and the "Do you blame yourself?" audio clip from Lucids fits them perfectly (and alludes to Sekai's mysterious past). Wormwood be stuck in Sekai's brain so long that he uncovers trauma not even our boy remembers

Me: "Gee, wonder if my isekai idea of people getting abducted from across space and time any bit original?"
Me: (*discovers "No Longer Allowed in Another World" exists*)
Me: "Well I be darned! The MC is a writer who doesnt want to be there either!"
Not upset, just pleasantly surprised! Characters are really cool. MC is based on an infamous early 20th century japanese cynic writer (Osamu Danzai) who's most famous work was called "No Longer Human". Basically imagine a hero gets summoned to another world, but they turn out to be a Stephen King protagonist.
It also has cool villains who are essentially the concept of "What if giving these random offworlders OP powers/divine abilities was a bad idea?"
There's even a joke about the infamous Isekai Truck!

Don't you love when lore building adds flavour to pre-established lore?
Looks like my noodley symbiote demon Wormwood's backstory just got a little spicier.
Sequel to this meme I made about my isekai concept.
