i could also see them battling substance use afterwards, either prescribed or not, for the sleep element specifically (shoutout my insomnia brethren, my hallucinations-when-ur-sleep-deprived brethren).

i will say tho, i do believe in my soul that they learn to ask for accommodations in their life and adjust and don’t just try to move on or act like nothing happened. like ik sally is the first to be like “how can we make the world more accessible for you two?”

in my hc they also take a gap year to recover (seek doctors for physical rehab and mental health support, etc.).

i havent read COTG but i think one of the strengths of PJO is rick rarely shied away from acknowledging that kids go through traumatic things and can still be kids in the face of them. it would be a mistake to breeze past the tartarus of it all with these two.

what do u think abt percabeth post tartarus? bc to me they were wayy to normal after coming out of there they should have been incredibly insane...what do you think theyd be like? personally i think theyd have a not so fun mix of hallucinations, not trusting anyone, extreme codependency, chronic pain and other struggles but idk

REAL 🙏🙏🙏 I made posts abt percabeth post tartarus (+ Nico by extension) a while back but honestly it’s been so long I’ve forgotten most of it and my opinion has most likely changed lmao BUT HEAVY on the chronic pain and extreme codependency!!!!

I think the chronic pain I thought up back then was like something with their respiratory system like they find it hard to breath and hard to talk so they picked up sign language as a way to communicate with one another when their throats start acting up or like when they just go nonverbal or don’t want to talk or where they just have to be quiet etc etc

I think I can vaguely recall smth about their vision, maybe specifically Annabeth considering the Polyphemus blindness curse, but like tartarus was super dark and the air was literal acid so I think their vision is a little more wonky now so like they have a hard time seeing when it’s super bright or whatever I don’t remember lmao

I think Annabeth would have like a limp from her broken ankle because while the phlegathon healed them I like to think it just healed them enough to keep them alive (which iirc I think thats actually just canon) so her ankle healed enough to walk on but healed Wrong. I want to say same with Percy’s injuries but I’m pretty sure Bob and Damasen healed his wounds soooo I have nothing there but if I just ignore canon real quick hehehe I’d say the fight with the empousai followed immediately by the fight with the arai, Percy went THRU IT. I can recall rn the bit of the fight when an empousa sank her fangs into Percy’s thigh and idk theres smth so violent and visceral about that that makes me go there was definitely a lasting effect from that. Paired with the arai curses afterward, I’d say Percy’s body just constantly aches. Being in water helps but the moment he’s out of it it’s like he takes on the sky again and he just hurts all over

Definitely nightmares and hallucinations tho like they slept twice down there? And that was only Annabeth. Percy only slept once. I think that definitely fucked up their brains. And being the only (?) people to ever SEE tartarus as a physical being? Percy seeing Tartarus the way nico did as the pit literally being the god’s body?? I think there was a scene where Annabeth almost did as well??? Their brains are literally cooked bro hallucinations and nightmares galore.

I like to think they fear sleep a little but also if they get too sleep deprived then their hallucinations go bonkers so they have to find that nice middle ground that leaves them constantly tired but at least they aren’t being attacked by the shadows all that often so it works. Then you’d think with all the lack of sleep, they sleep like the dead when they finally go down but no. I mean, Percy canonically wakes from his sleep when he hears Annabeth unlock his window in cotg so I’m saying they’ll spring awake if a fly buzzes too close to their ear

Anyways yes for sure with the codependency because not only were they like pretty codependent before with the whole Percy being kidnapped thing and promising to never be separated again, but then tartarus just exemplified it.

This part is gonna sound like nonsensical rambling bc I’ve just been talking to myself about this aspect of their time in tartarus but your post referencing it as a sort of religious/spiritual experience actually helps me so much when putting it into words, I just hope the rest makes sense lmfao

Since they were in heavy fight or flight mode down there, they were essentially stripped to their core of their being and left like everything to do with mortality and humanity behind - them in tartarus wasn’t two people going through a shitty physical place, it was literally just their souls, the very aspect of their beings, traversing the darkest pit of the underworld that is fire and brimstone and pain and clawing your way out. And they held onto one another through it all. They became an integral parts of one another because it was their souls clinging to one another for safety and stability and comfort and there is No One Else who will ever come close to that

Like people focus so much on Annabeth being “afraid of Percy” during the poison scene but no one looks at it as Annabeth being afraid FOR Percy (I’m being dramatic so many people probably say that but I usually see anti-Annabeth people hating on her for being afraid of him lol). Like their whole pov here is “I’ll do anything, destroy anyone - including myself - to make sure hes/shes okay” and then Annabeth has to watch him do things that seemingly “destroy himself” and she can’t bear that because she was trying to protect him the best she could but here he goes willingly destroying himself for her. But then just her voice is enough to stop him and keep him tethered and sane and together. It’s a moment reestablishing to both of them that they are one another’s strength and weakness, one another’s power and destruction, one another’s mortal point and Achilles heel and I genuinely mean that.

It’s why I am a Firm Believer that while going to school in New York, Annabeth ends up getting expelled because she can’t stop sneaking out to see Percy and Percy can’t stop sneaking out to see her so she eventually starts going to school with Percy and just lives with the Jacksons for the last year of high school before her and Percy move out west to go to college. And bc apparently some people refer to their college years as them living in dorms, I also feel the need to specify that my hc for them in new rome is they just get an apartment in the city and live together while going to college.

Since leaving the pit, they could not physically stand being apart for longer than a handful of hours. Idk what Richard is writing about anymore but I know I’m right ❤️‍🩹

You know, that anon that I just answered actually reminded me of how hopeful I was for literally one moment that Cassian would stand up to Rhys for Nesta in Ember's HOFAS bonus chapter.

It was when I read the part where Cassian arrived with Nesta in his arms and they both had a stony expression on their faces (or something along those lines).

I was so sure that they were both just pissed off at Rhys together.

Imagine my disappointment when I read how Cassian's so angry at Nesta and took the side of his little buddy instead. AGAIN😒

I understand that Rhys is Cassian's High Lord, but it's unbelievably frustrating to continually read how Cassian will choose Rhys every single time over Nesta, his mate.

Hell, Lorcan was ready to throw Aelin (his superior) overboard for simply upsetting Elide.
