asdfg I can't, they're so sweet and perfect for each other. kell staying awake whenever lila is out, lila still trying to find a cure for him, him giving her a ring not to signify devotion, but for protection, and her secretly keeping it around her neck despite arguing that she didn't want it, lila teaching kell to fight now that he can't use his magic, lila abandoning the thrill of battle just at hearing him scream—they've been together for nearly a decade and I'm still hanging onto their moments like it's a first kiss. what a beautifully written relationship, what a wholesome romance, I'm absolutely in love with them and I could read 300 pages of them just being domestic

So here’s the question: what will Kell’s reaction be if he finds out Alucard kissed and tried to seduce Lila on the ship?

I imagine it would end in the same way most Alucard and Kell interactions go

Alucard would goad Kell about him (more or less successfully) seducing Lila on the ship and Kell would go at Alucard’s throat while (presumably) Rhy is holding one of them back

I can't stop thinking about Lila saying "There is nowhere you go, that I cannot follow" in TFTOP because it was her subtle declaration of love and devotion to Kell. The way the words sounded like a promise and a threat, which is so her. She didn't want to lose him. If he didn't make it, she would make sure to bring him back from wherever he went, even from another world. She whispered the words because they were for his ears only. They were a piece of her soul she was willing to share with him, just like the thread of her magic which ended up saving his life. She told him because she thought he was unconscious, so him revealing that he remembered everything made me go insane and I want to know whether he'll tell her

When a character so badly wants to do or see something happen and they give their all for it but then they don’t live to see it and people get to know from other people that “they did it. They made it happen. They'd have loved to see it. It’s a shame they didn't live to see it”? Yeah...

I’ve only reached page 100, but Kell’s new issues with his self-worth and self-image is so damnably good and horrifying. He and everyone else around him had put him into this little box, only seeing him as Antari and his skill with magic (which, arguably, isn’t all that great, which is hinted at often, but not the point here). And to have his ability not only become painful, but instead be taunting him, a well ready to drink from but the water poisoned, rather than be gone altogether. It would be easier if he were magicless. Because then he’d be dead, and it would be easier to be dead.

It’s actually haunting to read as he tears himself apart over it because he really wasn’t allowed to have anything else, to be anything else. And he was complacent with that, since magic really is the most important thing here. To have this one thing you love and revolve your entire being around, to have the world revere and fear you for it, your one defining feature, not only be stripped from you, but make it painful to use??? Makes me want to puke.

Which is also why Lila is the perfect person for him, because although she’s lost many a thing, and hasn’t necessarily had something she revolved around be taken, she’s still familiar with grief and loss and, more importantly, getting the fuck back up. Kell can be really pathetic and self-pitying and, really, it’s like he loves to beat himself up—which is part of why I adore him—but yes, he needs Lila to kick some sense into him, not someone to coddle him.

So my first guess was wrong about Nadiya...

SHE'S FUCKING AROACE HOLY SHIT THIS IS SUCH A WIN

I knew V.E. Schwab wouldn't let us down like I figured she'd be some flavor of queer. And while lesbian was my first (clearly wrong now dkdjdjabfb) guess, aroace was my second and boy did she deliver!! Seeing her find a family and a place to belong and even thrive while being very clearly aroace (she may have lacked the words for it for it's obvious she's aware of it) was so wonderful. And as an asexual who is not sex averse, it was really lovely getting some representation in that regard.

Also the Loreni colors being purple and gray... I see you!! I see what this is!! 💜🩶

And like even beyond representation, she's such an interesting character! Her relationship with Alucard is really nice, and I'm excited to see where her and Lila's relationship goes, especially after Lila was hurt by the stolen invention. I think they're actually quite similar characters, which is definitely part of what makes them clash. And her inventing is probably also going to be important. I hope she continues to cook up dangerous shit I...hope she has fun :) I'm also curious about her and Rhy's relationship—I mean they're married of course, but we didn't actually get a lot of them together and I'm quite interested in that dynamic.
