Jonathan doesn’t remember falling asleep in the basement or the reason Jervis is staring at the back of his skull. There’s a tension he can’t explain when he gets up from his seat on the stairs.

Jervis shifts on his feet, his arms are crossed and he doesn’t look Jonathan directly in the face. No one says anything.

CHAPTER 5!!!

January 2nd.

Jervis blinks up from the book he's reading and glances over into the hallway, he could've sworn he had seen something move.

Jervis decides to shrug it off, his medication must be wearing off and he should probably go to bed soon.

He puts the bookmark he had found in Jonathan's office on the page he is on and closes the book, taking a look at the clock. 9:27 pm.

Jonathan hadn’t left the basement in 8 hours and most likely the entire night but he had come upstairs at some point to refill his coffee and eat a couple of bites of the breakfast Jervis had made.

Edward doesn't remember why he had said yes to Jonathan's request, driving 2 hours all by himself wasn't her favorite activity. But, how they hate that word when used against her, Jervis was his friend, and miserable if he chose to believe Jon.

Edward pulls onto the track leading to Jonathan's house and feels a wave of relief when he finally spots the old house and the red pickup truck parked in front of it. She parks next to the rusted car and stops the engine, they had planned on spending New Year's with Jonathan anyway but Edward didn't expect he'd have to play mailman.
