Paws, growing bored with her own accumulating accolades, decided that her next feat in the world of science had to be bigger and better than anything before. She set out to create a perfect lifeform, sketching up the design for the M.A.C. (Multifaceted Augmented Creature) 1.0. The M.A.C. 1.0 did not realize, however, that Paws' first draft was never meant to be the finished lifeform, and was instead a vessel for prototyping faux organs that would be used in the final design. While the M.A.C. 1.0 loved its creator, it was left with confusion when Paws' tests completed, and the M.A.C. 1.0 was released into the world to live. Sure, she meant to bestow upon it the beautiful gifts of life and freedom, but the M.A.C. 1.0 didn't know HOW to live and to be free. It didn't know life beyond laboratory walls, nor love beyond open chest cavities and scientific exclamations. It didn't know personal satisfaction beyond walls of blueprints that suggested the M.A.C. 1.0 would always remain inferior and incomplete. How can a man-made object ever feel like fellow man? How can invention ever be creation? How could a collection of parts ever feel whole?

[ID: A comic with a title card, and two panels on each row, with three rows total. The title card reads “Vague Shape of a Creature Presents… WHAT’S YOUR TYPE?” The word “type” appears to be in a syringe of blood. The first panel depicts H3R, a white rat with a large, pink nose, thinking with a grin on its face. Someone off to the side asks “What’s your type?” To which it replies, “Oh! Hm-Hm! Well…” In the first panel, H3R clasps its hands together, looks up to the sky, blushes, and says “There’s brown eyes…” while imagining a seahorse with large eyes. In the third panel, they sway to the side, adding “Nice, chiseled features… Unique noses…” while imagining a chiseled crow with glasses, and a creature with a unique nose, four pointed ears, and chin length hair with a widow’s peak. In the fourth panel, H3R puts its arm behind its head, looks off to the side, and shyly goes, “But… Uh…” In the fifth panel, we pull out and see H3R swinging its feet as it says, “I guess more than anything, I want someone patient, y’know? I know I’m not the easiest to love. I want to be loved anyways! There’s NOTHING sexier than a good heart. Kindness towards others, not just me. And passion for causes that matter! Abortion rights! Palestine! Pride!” In the final panel, we see Paws, a pink bear with a star pattern on its left ear, and a curved arrow on her right eye. She has a peach snout and a heart shaped nose. She also has big, thick glasses, which reflect H3R’s face, bewildered. Paws says “Cute, but… I meant your blood type.” And H3R simply goes “Oh.” /end ID.]

The word “monster” originally meant “deformed”. A monster could be a two headed calf, conjoined twins or a hideously deformed human infant. It was only in the 20th century that monster came to mean any cruel or alien creature.
