Your severely disabled friend isn’t being too picky about clothing causing pressure sores. Not when they ask someone to check their clothes aren’t bunched up under them, not when they refuse to wear tight clothes or jeans with buttons or studs on the back. Not any time.
A bunched up sock might be a minor annoyance to most people, but my sock was unknowingly folded under my splint overnight and it gave me a pressure sore. Now I can’t wear shoes or my splints again until it fully heals.
This sore is mild and being on the top of my foot makes it easy to remove pressure from so it can heal, but please don’t forget that serious and infected pressure sores are a huge killer of people like me.

Its 2025!
Here’s some things I think are important to remember as we go forward:
It’s never too late to get the Covid booster.
It’s never too late to get the flu shot.
It’s never too late to get tested for HIV or other STDs.
It’s never too late to start masking again.
It’s never too late to start taking care of yourself.
It’s never too late to start a new path in life.
Thanks :)

If you were using it only as prescribed and got the symptoms of addiction, that’s dependence. If you were using it outside of the prescription use (I.e. taking more than instructed), it’s addiction. At least in the US/UK/many European countries. Hope this helps.
How can chronic pain patients be “addicted to pain meds?” That’s like telling someone with a prosthetic that they’re addicted to their prosthetic. Or a cardio patient that they’re addicted to their pacemaker. Or a diabetic that they’re addicted to insulin. What is the thought process here?

People are in fact saying this. This is true. I’ve mostly been told this in the USA or foreign USA-affiliated areas (like military bases).

Let me clarify: I mean people who say that shit when someone is not actually addicted and is simply.. using them for their intended purpose. I understand that they are addictive and can be bad for people (also agree with the point that addiction isn’t evil), but this post is specifically talking about when people use their medication correctly and for it’s intended purpose. Then people saying “you’re addicted!!” gets old real quick. Sorry for not clarifying that in my original post.

My partner just showed me the strangest video that came up on their tiktok. The video was of a woman that said something along the lines of "Did you know all schizophrenic people smell bad? They just have a bad odor that is always present. Even if they shower, and use deodorant, they just smell bad constantly for their whole life."
And that video was stitched by some guy wearing scrubs who said something like "actually this is true, here is one article from the 70's of a psychiatrist who had noticed that a lot of his schizophrenic patients smelled bad". So, someone posing as a medical care worker saying this is true, but his only evidence is that one psychiatrist said this once. No trials, no real evidence, not even an attempt at an explanation on why they think every schizophrenic person just smells bad all the time.
But the most absurd part about this is that there wasn't a single comment disagreeing or asking for proof of this supposed phenomenon. It was just full of people saying "I knew a schizophrenic person and they always smelled bad!" or "I've noticed this too! They always just smell awful!"
There's so many things wrong with this. First off, they are being vague as hell, "smell bad" could mean many different types of smell, and can be caused by so many different things. Second, like I said, absolutely no proof at all, but they say it as if it is an undisputed fact. People are so quick to bully people with schizophrenia, that they don't even check that this is legit, or even sensical. Third, how do they think this would be true? You could argue that schizophrenic people are more likely to be homeless and not have access to showers or hygiene products. You could argue that schizophrenic people could be mentally ill to the point where they neglect their hygiene for long periods of time. But the first speaker went out of her way to clarify that the bad smell is there even after showering and deodorant. So do they think that this is an innate biological side effect of having schizophrenia? How would that even work? The more you think about this whole thing the less sense it makes.
This was just a ramble about a great example of how people with schizophrenia are consistently harassed and dehumanized. And no one will stand up for us, or even question it, because so many people view us as less than human. We deal with so much stigma that makes people believe we are dangerous, crazy, unintelligent, and a burden to the people around us. But that wasn't enough, so now we are all inherently stinky, just always smell bad, and they present that as a fact. It just goes to show how so many people don't care what we as schizophrenic people will think about it, or how it will affect us, because they simply do not care about us at all. They don't consider us as equal. As humans who are the ones experiencing the stigma along with our mental illness, and have to face each day with the weight of both on our shoulders. With no relief given to us from the people who have the privilege of not experiencing either one.
Not all schizophrenic people smell bad. That is just a lie that people are willing to believe because they already don't care about us as people.

i saw that one disability-related post a while ago about dental care but i can't find it again so i'm gonna mention a few things as a (mild to moderately) mentally & physically disabled person, whose teeth hurt when i eat sweet stuff now + i've had a root canal due to a fall + i'm learning to take care of myself, that may or may not help other folks with their dental routine
note: i am not a dentist & this info is mostly what i've gleaned secondhand from dentists, so yeah, i am not an expert in any capacity
water flossers aren't as effective as regular flossing (doing both is actually what's most effective) but they're better than nothing & helpful in cases where coordination problems or other issues might prevent regular flossing technique (i imagine this also depends on the quality of the water flosser)
if you use one of the plastic pre-made floss picks things, rinse the string off in-between each time you use it to floss one side of a tooth, it's tedious but it mimics moving to a new (clean) part of the thread like you do with regular floss
if you get an automatic toothbrush, get one that does circular rotation rather than just vibrating or whatever, as this mimics the tools they use in a dentist's office + imitates the circular motion you're expected to make with a standard toothbrush (which is also hard with coordination issues), i got one that does this pretty cheap from walmart (it's an oral-b but i forgot the specific type) + it automatically times it for you
if you have white spots on your teeth that are uneven with the shade of the rest of the tooth those are potentially white spot lesions due to demineralization; whitening products can make this worse rather than help it, but some products can help with remineralization such as mi paste topical tooth creme, which contains calcium and phosphate (i have yet to try this myself but it seems to get suggested by a lot of dentists, orthodontists, etc. for white spots on teeth & it's also supposed to help with sensitivity and tooth health in general because the white spots are lesions so it's not purely cosmetic!)
it's advised to not rinse your mouth immediately after brushing as this potentially dilutes & reduces the effects of the flouride (if you use fluoride toothpaste), stuff says to wait at least 15 minutes or so
just giving your teeth a quick scrub (even if it's without toothpaste and just water) is better than not brushing your teeth at all
if you have trouble seeing a dentist for financial reasons, try to see if there are income-based or charity dental services in your area, sometimes dental schools also provide low-cost/free dental care
that's all i can think of for now, i wish i had more advice for people who struggle to be able to brush their teeth at all in general but this is all i got unfortunately :(
additionally - you're not bad, useless, gross, or a failure if you struggle to (or can't) maintain oral hygiene; this stuff is much easier for some people than it is to others & those who take it for granted like to forget that, no one deserves to be mocked or looked down on for being disabled & struggling to/not being able to do """basic""" stuff like this!

This is how you get blocked. I am very passionate about my love of hated species and very petty about online bug vitriol.
Reasons mosquitoes are good:
Mosquitoes pollinate
Mosquitoes can repopulate and restore dead wetland because their larvae don't need oxygenated water. A mosquito boom is step #1 in restoring wetland
Mosquitoes drive caribou migrations and prevent overgrazing and overpopulation
Mosquitoes are an unbelievably important food source for birds, bats, and predatory insects like dragonflies and diving beetles
Mosquitoes are able to feed on megafauna (like deer), and can move nutrients from the top of the food chain down to the bottom of the food chain without killing megafauna. Mosquitoes allow birds and bats to eat deer, and no deer has to die in the process

While I totally appreciate the sentiment and think it's rad and awesome to reframe the whole "being in the way" thing for wheelchair users, I own it and joke about being a Vehicular Menace and that I'll move so I'm a little more in the way if they want. I have several shirts that say some sort of variant of "large and in charge" and I MEAN IT lmao. Me and my wheelchair and my ventilator take up the space of 3 people and weigh like 500lbs, I'm gonna be the largest obstacle in the room. The other post reframing things is NOT wrong, but I am IN THE WAY and it is ON PURPOSE. I'll move, but only to be more in the way.

going onto physically disabled people’s posts to tell us to be nicer, more forgiving, and to educate is the pinnacle of entitlement. not everything is for you. not everything other people do or say needs to benefit you somehow. other people have feelings that have nothing to do with you personally. it’s ok. you’ll survive
