Why the #YOLO Generation needs to be Financially Literate?

1. We were taught to save to spend.

Remember when we were still 4 whenever we want something from the toy store. We were told to save our allowance so we can buy it on our own the next time we come back.

2. We were taught that the bank is the best and only place to keep our savings.

Remember when we were still 9 we were told that we should keep our savings in the bank so that our money will grow.

3. We got lost in the consumerist world.

Remember the feeling of talking to your inner self saying that "I'm really going to start saving promise!"

4. We were taught that to get a good job is the only way.

Remember when we were young we were constantly told that we should study hard so we could get a good paying job?

5. We have the wrong understanding about loans.

Remember the day when your office mates are talking about the SSS loan saying that you should go get the loan because you will miss the opportunity. (Even though you do not know what will you do with the loan)

6. We were taught that owning our own car is an investment.

Remember the days when you spend so much just for the maintenance cost and the day when you decided to sell your car only to realize that it depreciated way below than you expected where you can sell it for less than half of its original price.

7. We were taught that having a real property is the best investment option we can have.

Remember the time when you were earning enough to look for an investment? You will most often hear "go get your own house, it's a good investment and it's a milestone in your life to have one" But were you aware about the hidden costs of owning a property?
