I love reading books and hating on booktok (if that's your thing: Welcome and let's be friends!)

You know what I hate the most about many (but not all!!) book girlies on Instagram and TikTok?
That they can't take constructive criticism of their favourite books or authors. Like I know you like that book, but it has still its flaws.
Yeah, I love my favourite books too, but they are definitely not perfect. Acknowledging their flaws comes with critical thinking, which is good for you btw. Especially in a time where we are flooded with many (fake) news and influences around us politics wise.
You can still like that book and you can still reread as often as you like and post about it and the characters as if there's no tomorrow. But please, please don't harrass people for criticising a fucking work of fiction in a constructive manner. They are not insulting you or anyone you know. It's just a book and fortunately for us all people have different tastes and opinions!
So anyway, this post came to be because I saw a video of a bookish creator talking about famous book couples from certain very popular books, which he doesn't like and why. He had a lot of valid points, but of course, the comments were flooded with people who can't bear to hear criticism of their favourite books.
Thanks for listening!

I am just a simple girl, take me to a bookstore and I will tell you about each book I have read, about my tbr, about the genres, and will probably give you 100+ recommendations even if you haven't asked for.

but my real agenda as a librarian, a blogger, a reader, and a person is to convince people they are allowed to dnf books, life is too short to read bad books

Read this book this afternoon and it really made me feel a lot. It was kind of shocking while also being inspiring, an emotional read that really resonated with me.
It's short (under 200 pages), entertaining and can be easily read in one afternoon while still feeling meaningful.
The author is famous for her other novel "breats and eggs" and I must admit that I had no interest in reading it, but now I'm definitely curious and added it to my tbr.
A great novel that made my day better even when it was a sad and kind of dark at times.

Hey hey, as a librarian, can I just say don’t pace yourself at the library. I get a lot of customers saying “oh I shouldn’t get too many books out at once” but like you should!!!! Max out your card, take everything we have on a subject you’re interested in, make a book fort in your home. We love that shit! It doesn’t matter if you read them or not; just take them for an adventure and bring them back whenever they’re due!
For public libraries, one of the ways we secure funding year to year is lending. Governments don’t want to fund more books if they’re not being used and the way we measure use is by issues. Regardless of whether you read it or not, whether you have it for a day or a month, if you issue it to your library card, we get the stats! It makes the library look good!
Help your local library; get books out even if you know you can’t read them all!

I think having an absolute favourite book while also acknowledging it's flaws is pretty important. You should always be open for critism of your favourite piece of literature and think critically of it.
There just isn't the perfect book, that hasn't a single flaw. It may be perfect for you and that's totally fine, but your favourite book won't be 100% perfect with zero flaws, because that just isn't possible.
