Hey!! I am SUCH A BIG FAN of your binds!!! You are a binding goddess to me 🙌 I was wondering what paper you use for the covers of your paperbacks? They look so professional, I’m trying to learn how to bind paperbacks instead of hardcovers, I have some novellas and shorter fics that I think would be weird as a hardcover. Thank you so much!!

Hi! Thank you so much for the kind words (sorry this has taken so long to respond to!) for my paperbacks I typically will use a glossy photo cover paper and then add soft touch lamination on top to protect it. Paper weight has varied bc I am still trying to find my favorite to work with. Right now I’ve been reaching for 60# gloss from koala paper. Hope this helps!

Hello! I just found your blog and your works are amazing. How does book binding work? Do people commission you to bind works for them?

Hiii! Thank you 😊 I do fanfic binding as a hobby and rebind traditional published books as commissions occasionally. I don’t take commissions for fanfiction since it’s illegal to profit off of ff and I don’t have the capacity or motivation to do it for just cost of material.

If I love a fic I’ve read and have the time/mental energy I try to offer author’s copies for free if the author is active in the fandom and I can get a hold of them.

I learned mainly from TikTok and YouTube (there’s sooo many resources and tutorials)

Hi!! I wanted to ask what paper guillotine you use for cutting your edges? I have a heavy-duty one that refuses to cut in straight lines no matter what I do :(

Your binds are always so beautifully done, I especially love your bind of Grounds for Divorce (I actually only read it after I saw you bind it and it's become one of my favourite fanfics ever)

Hi! I use this one - it doesn’t always cut my text blocks straight. I’ve definitely had issues with my guillotine and am probably not the best person to ask haha. I just usually try to line up the little guard thing and then I’ll place something heavy on top of my text block prior to cutting and then slowly pull the handle down to cut.

Hello! I love your work so much!!

I’m new to bookbinding and I had a few questions for an expert :) First, which binding stitch to you use? And do you print on the fabric (when you use it), or just buy it from somewhere? Also, could you offer tips for how you cover both pages of the inside cover without making the book stiff of hard to open/close? Thanks!

Hi! For the stitch on my text blocks I use a French link stitch and have since I first started binding!

For my covers I use a few different methods:

Wrap covers- print my design directly on glossy photo paper with soft touch lamination on top and then glue directly on my vase.

Bookcloth/homemade cloth- I will either buy bookcloth from Hollanders or talas or I’ll make my own cloth with pretty cloth + adding heat n bond and tissue paper then glue to my case.

Printable canvas- I buy a printable canvas from Amazon and print my design directly on that and then glue to my case

It’s taken me a whileeee to make my covers open nicely. I like to use thinner paper for my end sheets and I will gently press inside the crease with my bone folder before pressing the bind overnight. Hope this helps!
