My 30th birthday was better than I could have ever imagined it to be. I finally went to Africa!!! 🥰 Swipe to see exactly where I went along with some cool photos and videos from my trip. Fun Fact: On my birthday the host of the first airbnb we stayed at surprised me with a vegan chocolate cake she made from scratch and trick candles!! There are also some small gifts in the brown paper bag. 🥰 Captured in the first photo. I also have a blog post coming about my experience in Africa. I hope you get to visit one day! For now you can check out my newest blog post “The perfect 30th birthday idea.” right now on thefunkyeclectic.com or use the #linkinbio (at Kenya, Africa) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp8ktUpLQxn/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.”
— Louise Erdrich, from The Painted Drum (HarperPerennial, 2005)

It would be really hard to believe the things black people went through during slavery, and for years after it was abolished, if it were not for these photos and videos. It is just too cruel to believe that someone could do these things to another person. But to know that someone was actually present when these things occurred and all they did was take photos and record videos makes me sick to my stomach. To know that people wanted (and some still want) us to believe we are inferior, unworthy, not human, etc. so damn bad baffles me. Just mind your damn business and worry about yourself!!

Who are you outside of what you’ve been through? A question I am still trying to answer.
