virgil isn't an angry person as a default, mostly resorting to sarcasm and disdain over outbursts, but the one thing that sets him off is overhearing people insulting jordan. not just because they're together, now -- it was before that, too. like when he first joined the club and he'd heard whispers about how he was better suited as captain.

he's put academy kids in their place, voice raising well above normal volumes, when he's heard them talk about jordan. he's shouted at his own teammates, at opposition players, with jordan's arm across his torso to keep him back.

he just likes to protect the people he loves.

from the outside, most people think that it's jordan who's hanging onto every word virgil says. for the people that know them best though, they know it's quite the opposite.

virgil absolutely worships jordan, spends hours learning every inch of his skin and taking him apart just to put him back together again. would spend the rest of his life in jordan's arms if he could, pressed inside just to watch the way jordan's mouth drops open, his cheeks flushed.

he's got picture's of it, actually, stored in a folder in his phone that nobody else would be able to find. stares at them until his eyes water when they're apart, because the only place he really wants to be is next to jordan, around him, inside him, wherever he can get.

when jordan decides he needs to leave the club, virgil knows it's for the best, but it doesn't stop that awful, crushing feeling in his chest. he loves jordan and things are good, although there's a tiny voice in his head that's telling him that maybe things weren't as good as he thought.

but this isn't about him. this is about jordan, and his feelings, his own worthiness. so when he says he's going, virgil forces a smile, wobbly but almost real, and tells him he'll support him no matter what. he thinks he sees disappointment on jordan's face, but he's learnt to stop hoping.

jordan's tense and tight most of the time, wound up by his need for professionalism. sometimes, though, just sometimes, he's loose and relaxed, laughing like nothing else matters. it's usually when he's got a trophy in his hands, and then, after that, he likes to press himself close to virgil, their teammates' proximity be damned.

those times, in hotel function rooms, he likes to kiss virgil on the dancefloor, let virgil spin him round to whatever nonsense joe has managed to stick on the playlist, and he laughs, with his whole, entire body, head thrown back and eyes glittering.

those are the moments when virgil falls in love with him all over again.
