hi happy miku day <3 <3 <3 i didn't mean to take so long to get the bracket arrangement up but if it has to be late what better day to upload them than 3/9 :'D

anyway here are the lineups ^^ (formally done this time)

The First *insert unit of time* Soundtrack Showdown - Video Game Edition!

Hello and welcome to my Sountrack Showdown! My goal is to find the hardest, dopest, slappiest OSTs around and who better to survey than the passionate weirdos here on tumblr.com. This tournament is for video games only, but if this goes well, I may do this again for other forms of media.

The Rules

I am an indecisive bitch with no sense of scale or scope, so things are subject to change.

Nominate as many games as you want, but don’t submit the same game multiple times.

As long as it’s something that you can play on a console or computer or anything else that’s powered by electricity, it counts.

hello !

i feel like i owe everyone some sort of explanation for why it's taking so long for the poll to get started considering it's been like a week since i planned for the the polls to start :(

i'm currently in the process of moving which while super neat and funky means that i don't have a whole lot of free time rn ?? and having started this while recovering from covid (i'm better now thankfully) wo much planning ahead means that now i kinda have to do everything all at once. it doesn't help that the new place i'm at doesn't have wifi set up yet and my reception is also not that great </3 </3 </3

i havent forgotten about this at all and i will get to it as soon as i can, but it might be a little bit longer than i originally planned and expected

thank you so so much for being patient w me and i hope the next time i post it'll be for the formal finalized bracket :'D

the songs on the bracket have been finalized and i'm working on the bracket right now!

originally my plan was to put songs against each other by both the time they came out and their popularity to give lesser known songs a chance against some of the super notable classics, but i've been seeing a post go around about matchups that are final round worthy happening round one. while i don't think it's anything worthy of any major (or minor) backlash, i do have to agree that having more challenging matchups so early on can lead to a bit of an anticlimactic ending

the way the bracket is set up now, there's no way to avoid several major matchups so early on (ex :: rolling girl vs. matryoshka or world is mine vs. triple baka)

as much as i want to give songs that might not be as well known a chance (especially considering some only got in w one nomination via a random number generator), i also don't want some of what i at least consider to be the most well known songs to be disqualified round one. those songs are popular and well loved for a reason and i genuinely think they should also have a chance to make it to the end. round two at the very very least

i'll make a bracket for each possibility so it can go up when the pool closes, so please vote for whichever one you think would be the most fun !

also unrelated to this poll, i realize kinda forgot to make a post responding to the bracket song list one ?? since it ended showed up as a tie but wasn't really one after factoring in a missclick vote, the last songs were chosen via a random number generator ^^

there were some nominated but ultimately unpicked songs that i felt were too notable and influential to go unmentioned though??? so there's also a little hand picked honorable mentions bracket (it's very small !! it only has 8 songs total on it) :D

i will admit that some songs on it are more biased than others, but w the exception of one they all have at least 5 million views (counting unofficial reprints). i did try and make sure they're all at least somewhat notable (or were when they came out) in one way or another. so it's a little compromise in a way ^^

@ your tags: I think my only nomination for mothy (I tried to keep it to one that would make it for sure lol, else I'd have given you the entirety of TEC) was Daughter of Evil? Personally I think it'd be better to have either that or Servant of Evil on its own - pairing them up feels a bit unfair, unless whatever they're against is also a pair of songs!

aaaa yeah that's super super valid actually ! i didn't think about how it could give them an unfair advantage if they were paired together

there aren't any other pairs so i'll leave servant of evil out for this bracket ( ^^)b

A good way to avoid an anticlimatic ending is just to make sure theres popular songs on both sides of the bracket. Chances are a popular one on each side will make it through to the finals while still allowing less popular ones to make it past round 1?

oh true ! i'll definitely be sure to space them out a bit so that can happen ( ^^)b

some of the bracket arrangements that don't mention popularity might still lead to difficult choices ???? I think especially the era alone one just bc most of the older songs are more notable ??? but you can definitely guarantee that any bracket arrangements done by me wo popularity in mind won't have any potentially final worthy matchups in them round one ( ^^)b

i've come to the realization while putting the bracket together that after taking the two songs per producer rule into account, there are 62 songs that are guaranteed a spot. it's really great and super neat that there are more than enough songs to get to a bracket of 64 (or even 128), but i'm not familiar w all of them :(

at least the way i see it, the best way for me to go about picking the last 2 songs would be to listen to every nominated song i'm unfamiliar w so they all have a fair chance at getting in. no songs would be left out exclusively bc i haven't heard them before

the problem w that is there are quite a few songs i don't know (over 100 </3 </3 </3 ) and listening to them will push the start date of this way back. i very much am able to listen to every nominated song (and i do want to get to them eventually even if it's after the voting starts), but it'll take a while to get through them all :(

would you all rather i listen to the nominated songs and pick some myself, pick between the nominated songs i already know, leave it up to a randomizer, or just throw in two of my favorites that haven't been nominated?? or maybe just narrow it down to a bracket of 32 instead of 64 or do smth completely different i haven't thought of ??

sorry 2 bug you about this but do you know when the polls will be published?

i wanted to have everything ready for monday (feb 20) at around noon est but i really misjudged how long everything would take </3 </3

i'd like all the polls to be up and ready to vote on by wednesday ??? but i'll be a lot busier than i usually am this week. the start of voting might just have to be pushed back a few days :(

the brackets are So Close to being done but after taking the 2 songs per producer rule into account, the songs stop right at 62 (technically 61 ??? but someone put in a general nomination for every kagerou project song! while only one was formally nominated multiple times several other songs from the series were nominated ^^ ). if there's going to be a bracket w 64 songs it'll have be a bit longer than i originally expected orz
