Hey guys, I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. 

Honestly, this blog hasn’t been active for a long time and for a few reasons. I burned out on Voltron awhile ago, and no amount of rewatching the TV series could rekindle my interest in it. And the level of intensity required to handle this blog and the fandom was too much for me to handle emotionally, especially with school and being married and work added to the mix. I’m eternally grateful for the other mods who joined me in trying to manage this blog; you became some of my closest friends on Tumblr in the process. And I’m so grateful for the fun times we all had on this blog and the headcanons you guys submitted. I look back fondly on the days when this blog first started, and I plan to continue to look at it that way.

So, that being said, I will be closing submissions and asks and adding “-archive” to the end of this blog and leaving the “voltronheadcanons” title open for someone else to use. All of the posts that have been posted will still be left here for people to enjoy and look around at, but there won’t be any new posts on the blog from here on out.

You guys have been amazing, and I hope the best for all of you in the future.

How would the paladins react with getting their wisdom teeth out, both right after surgery and a few days down the road?

I firmly believe Hunk would be terrified beforehand and sleepy afterwards. He’d be hard to wake and hard to convince to move, because his body feels like it’s not moving the way it should, it all feels kind of disconnected. A few days later, he’d probably be grumpy as hell, because his face hurts and he doesn’t like the gauze in his mouth and he hates that he’s talking a little weird because of the gauze, but he’d be easy to please by Lance and Pidge putting on a movie and Lance dramatically draping himself across Hunk’s lap.

Lance would be the kind of person that gets all existential. Lots of “Why are we here” and “Who am I” questions. He would want smoothies. Lots of smoothies. Too many smoothies, Lance. Please chill. He’d be whiny, because his face hurts and his jaw feels weird and it’s giving him a headache. He’d be clingy and super dramatic about it, and probably push one of the others into losing their minds entirely.

Pidge is the kind of person that you’d say something to her and IMMEDIATELY she’d try to prove you wrong. Even if you were right. Even if what you said made no sense. Even if the words she’s saying and the theories she’s quoting are barely even English. Even if you’d just commented on how blue the sky looked and she’d gone off about the distance between Earth and Mars and how long it would take to get there, along with gravitational factors and God only knows what else, because even the Castle’s translator can’t handle that. And then a few days later, she’d be dead to the world. Just asleep. Only waking up for jello.

Keith hides. He nearly makes it out of getting them out, just by stalling long enough that he thinks he’ll miss the appointment, but Shiro and Pidge team up and get him out of his hiding spot. Afterwards, he’s, as always, 100% down to fight everyone. He’s barely standing straight, so they don’t take his threats seriously. Yes, Keith, we know you could kick the ass of every single surgeon in this room, but that’s illegal and you’re drugged, so how about we not do that, yeah? And then he gets quiet. He’s quiet and broody. And irritated. He is offended by the existence of jello. Pudding, though, that’s more his speed.

Shiro would insist on not being a bother to anyone, because he can clearly take care of himself on his own. No, the painkillers aren’t affecting him that bad, he insists, as he nearly faceplants onto the floor when he tries to get up. He’s constantly apologizing, but once he finally settles, he’s grateful. And then embarrassed, even though the others repeatedly tell him not to be. And then he insists he’s fine. He insists so much that when he gets an infection, Hunk nearly has to princess carry him out the door just so he’ll shut up and go. Pidge totally has pictures as proof. She makes a poster with one and gives it to Shiro for Christmas. He is not amused.

I've read plenty of fanfics that show Lance going home to his family and their reactions of him coming back. But during a drive home late, it got me thinking about Shiro and his family. No one really talks about it, and so I'm curious, could you write a scenario where Shiro goes home after being at war for *insert how long here* and his family's reaction of him being alive and well... different? It's alright if you just use his mom. Thank you! :)

It seems like it’s been a lifetime since he left for the Garrison. Shiro had always wanted to go to the stars, to help humanity explore the universe. He’d wanted to meet with other species and see as much as he could.

It’s funny how he got his wish. Just not in the way he’d hoped for.

His mom looks like she’s seen a ghost. Her eyes are wide and her hands are shaking, held up as if to cup his face. She doesn’t seem to be able to reach the few more inches to actually touch him. She looks like she’s convinced this isn’t real.

Shiro knows the feeling. The team’s been helping him and he’s more able to ground himself in the moment, but even so, it’s hard to believe that he’s here, on Earth, in front of his childhood home. He’s still in his Paladin armor, for God’s sake.

Focus on the air. Feel the heat of the sun. Feel the way gravity pulls at you.

He hadn’t realized how different the gravity on Earth was from every other planet he’d been on in the past four years until he’d actually stepped off the Castleship. It’s weird.

His dad is right behind his mom, fists clenched and shoulders tense, like he’s trying to force himself to not cry. His dad didn’t talk much, but he’d always been expressive, and Shiro can still read him, even after all this time. His dad was overwhelmed.

Yeah, Shiro got that, too.

Take a deep breath. Focus on the scents.

Someone nearby was grilling. God, but nothing in space had smelled quite as good as food on Earth. Hunk had tried his best, but there was nothing like a burger, or sushi, or his mom’s meat and potato stew. Coran had warned they might have to readjust to Earth food, but Shiro was hopeful it wouldn’t take long.

Breathe. What’s in front of you? Focus on the here and now.

His mom finally reaches out the rest of the way, slowly, like she might startle him. When her hands make contact with his face, her face crumples in relief, and tears roll down her face.

“My Shiro,” she whispers, her voice as rough as it has always been. It’s such a relief to hear that it actually hurts Shiro. His mom didn’t have what everyone called a soothing voice, but it was the best voice in the universe to Shiro. And he’d seen enough of it to know.

Shiro reaches up with his prosthetic hand to pull the glove off the other and grips her wrist. He lets his head lean onto her hands and closes his eyes. The constant ball of tension he’d gotten used to starts to melt in his stomach. He feels lighter, like the pressure on his shoulders is finally lifting.

There’s another hand on his forehead. Shiro does his best not to flinch, but doesn’t quite manage it. He opens his eyes and blinks past his own tears to see his dad’s hand. His dad had noticed the flinch and had retreated slightly, but when Shiro meets his eyes, he steps forward and rests his hand on Shiro’s head.

It’s about all Shiro’s able to take. He draws in a ragged breath and does his best, but being with his parents - it’s different. For the past four years, it’s been him and the team. He’s the oldest of the Paladins, the leader, the big brother, the one that everyone looks to in a crisis. He’d done his best to live up to those expectations, but it was hard.

The year in captivity is still mostly a tangled mess of thoughts. It likes to start to unravel when he’s not expecting it. He’d been on the defensive the entire time, hypervigilant and fighting every minute to survive. He’d had no time to rest, to stop and process what was being done to him. Any of those thoughts would make him shutdown, and he couldn’t afford to look weak to the Galra.

It’s been a long time since he’s been able to be held by his parents. By someone whose touch is solely there to comfort him, who isn’t going to look to him to know what to do in a life or death situation. The others are family and Shiro loved each of them fiercely, but this? Being held by his parents, as his dad leans in to get a actual grip on Shiro and his mom starts to whisper comforting things in his ears? This is something he’s been sorely missing.

Idea based off a bad pun I thought of: Either Pidge or Matt, when they were younger, would dress up like a superhero with lightning powers and called themselves The Lightning Holt

Lance tries to do a Homestuck meme with Pidge. She doesn't get it. Lance is horrified to learn she never read it and argues she can't be a real nerd if she hasn't read it. She counters that she was too busy kearning advanced robotics, physics, electrical engineering, and scanning the dark depths of space for any sign of her family. Lance orders her to use those smarts to hack the internet then so she can read it. Things spiral downward from here.

Pidge doesn’t sleep until she has finished the entire thing. All of it. She’s got all the songs and all the inside jokes. She references it every other sentence.

Lance has made a mistake. It doesn’t help that she now knows more than him, as well.

Oh my gosh, remember that old post about Keith and Thace going through a mission or something and Thace calls him sweet baby angel? Well for some reason, I read Keith's line of "Ok guys-Thace and I are going in." as "Ok guys-Thace and I are gay." I must have been more tired than I thought! XD

I have a question Who are Shiro's parents or what are they like? I haven't seen anything going into his past and I'm curious....

As far as I’m aware, we still have no information on Shiro’s family, or really anything on his past. Has anyone heard anything different?

Does Shiro, in a half-asleep daze, try to claw his prosthetic off after nightmares?

That is just a lovely and painful thought.

I’m about 90% sure it happens. Probably after not getting a lot of sleep, or when he’s been sick or injured. I wonder if there’s ever been a time when he’s been so out of it he doesn’t remember his arm is a prosthetic and they had to talk him down.

(My personal headcanon for this situation is that eventually, Pidge and Hunk develop a new arm for Shiro, so that he can have one that he uses by choice, not one that was forced on him.)

A note for anyone getting ready for college.

PSA for any high schoolers who’re going to college soon or  are just worried about it

your high school teachers are LIARS.

Most college professors accept late assignments.

Some of them are so chill that you can ditch most of class so long as you can handle the final. 

It’s all about playing it by ear.

YOU DON’T ASK TO GO TO THE BATHROOM PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE EMBARRASSMENT. 

It is NOT harder than high school. You’re more or less ready for it if you do ok in high school, ok?

Seriously. I got A’s in AP classes yet was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to handle college.

Surprise surprise?

AP classes are harder than college classes. 

No joke. 

College professors are a lot more liberal on what counts as a “right” answer. 

Plus they give you points for caring. 

Some classes give you points just for showing up. 

There’s an atmosphere of controlled panic, and you are not the only one. 

You can pretty much go up to anyone and say god life is a nightmare and finals are gonna kick my ass, and they’ll go saaaaame, regardless of how genius they’re supposed to be. 

Seriously. 

College student here.

High school teachers are the WORST of liars.

They’ll tell you college is a “whole nother level” but that’s such horse shit. 

High school is a standardized sheep counting facility. 

College is a research lab full of cats that may or may not do what you expect.
