The beauty of Korea!
In the last few years, the Korean wave has taken over the world like a storm. K-Pop music can be heard in various stores, K-beauty has become a part of everyone’s skincare. Most importantly, the craze for Korean food has started. Our group of 4 visited this small cozy restaurant in Koregoan Park called the Tibetan Mother’s Kitchen which served various delicacies from the land of Korea and Tibet. The restaurant was a small one in one of the lanes. It was a small hard to miss restaurant, but truly a hidden gem. The menu offers a variety of Korean and Tibetan food. We focused solely on the Korean food. We ordered as much variety in food as we could to the get whole grasp of the cuisine. The dishes that we ordered included some of the most popular dishes starting with

a)Kimbap Kimbap, also spelled gimbap or kimbab, is a popular Korean dish that consists of seaweed (nori) wrapped around a filling of rice and various ingredients. It is often referred to as Korean sushi or Korean rice rolls. Kimbap is a versatile and convenient food that can be found in Korean households, restaurants, and street food stalls. The kimbap that we ordered contained rice, seaweed(nori), chicken, cucumber and zucchini topped with sesame seeds and served with a side of soy sauce. The combination of all these different “new-old” flavours was scrumptious.

b)Bibimbap Bibimbap is a popular Korean dish known for its colourful presentation and delicious combination of flavours and textures. The name "bibimbap" translates to "mixed rice" in Korean, which is a fitting description of the dish. Bibimbap consists of a bowl of steamed rice topped with an assortment of seasoned vegetables, protein, and a flavourful sauce. The bibimbap that we ordered contained various assorted veggies such as spinach, cucumber, carrots, rice, sunny side up egg and chicken and we customized it by adding chilli oil and kimchi.

c) Tteokbokki Tteokbokki, also spelled as ddeokbokki or topokki, is a beloved Korean street food and popular comfort dish made primarily of rice cakes (known as tteok) and a spicy, flavorful sauce. The dish is known for its chewy texture and spicy kick. The specific vegetarian tteobokki that we had was more on the sweeter side than usual which subdued the spicy flavor. And the rice cakes were also a bit overcooked which is how some people prefer it but unfortunately our group wasn’t one of them.

d)Yam Yam Chicken Yam Yam Chicken" is a specific name or brand associated with a type of Korean fried chicken. Every restaurant has their own version of yam yam chicken which includes various frying styles and sauces. The one that we ordered was a double fried chicken to make it crispy coated in a sweet and spicy sauce which tasted kind of similar to the tteobokki sauce.

Review of the food Every dish had a varied review from each of the group’s members, from some members absolutely loving the dish to the others downright hating them. It mostly depends on your taste pallets if you’d like the above dishes. By votes the majority of the group loved kimbap. All of the delicacies served were amazing at least as per one half of the group, but the other half seemed to have a different opinion about some of the dishes. This just explains the varied tastes people have despite being in the same cultural environment and around the same age group, the food just didn’t agree with their taste pallets which ended up making it not so appetizing for the rest of the group. All in all it was a fun memorable day filled a lot of food.
