BOTD: Harpy Eagle
Tumblr media
Photo: Luciano Massa
"Truly impressive birds, Harpy Eagles' legs are as thick as a person's arm and their talons are three to four inches long — the same size as a grizzly bear's claws! This eagle is one of the few diurnal (day-hunting) raptors that have a facial disc, a trait they share with owls such as the Crested Owl. This feathered, concave area directs sound to the eagle's ears, a useful feature as they hunt under the dim rainforest canopy."

Just some pretty photos of a scene we walked by on our hike a while back. So calming and beautiful.

Doc & I survived a pretty serious flash flood last week- it came out of nowhere & we barely made it out with our lives & our puppy’s life.
We had to flee instantly with only what we had on us and we lost most everything we own sadly. We returned to the campsite and found a good amount of our things but the loss was felt.
This picture was taken right by our washed away camp where the flood happened. He & I can get through anything together- we are just happy that we didn’t get hurt & we will bounce back!
FLASH FLOODS ARE NO JOKE
They are extremely dangerous & often underestimated. They can and will kill.

Cool mushroom at our old campsite. Anyone know what kind it is?

I thought I needed to share this- kinda funny on my opinion. (Yes- I know it may be considered tree abuse but hey, it is what it is.)
We got to our new campsite and didn’t have any storage figured out so I improvised.
Tool box? No.
Tool tree? Yes.
Bonus photo of my shoe/boot dyer, lol.

My hiking get up for the day-
Knife? Check.
Machete? Check.
Hatchet? Check.
Doc also had two knives and an ax on him as well.
Weapon lovers for real.

We were hiking down a road by our old campsite and I saw this tree farm that just seemed to be a backdrop for Doc.
Am I wrong tho?

A Walmart brand hatchet called an ‘American Hickory’ that Doc’s mom gave him. He of course had to make it his own by sanding, shaping and burning the handle.
It makes a perfect throwing ax!

We were driving down the road a couple months back and saw this turkey vulture drying out his wings and it truly does look like a glitch in the matrix as he appears frozen in mid air lol
