part of me is like “what the fuck do you mean next week is august when last week was mid april” but then the other part of me is like “approximately 7 years have passed since december 2019 and july 2020″ so that’s fun

May, Myself and I: Letters
From @carriehopefletcher‘s prompts
----
I’ve always loved the idea of writing letters - they’re a beautifully deliberate way of communicating. When you send someone a text (unless you’re like me and draft and reread them over and over, pysching yourself in to sending it) then it’s just a throwaway “oh I saw your name and thought I might as well message you”. To me, when you write a letter, you have to sit down, get everything out, and then actually write and communicate stuff in detail - otherwise it would be a waste of writing it if it were just “hi, I was thinking about you, lots of love”. The person you’re sending it to is on your mind, and you have something to tell them, that will entertain them.
While I was at boarding school my best friend and I would send letters to each other. We could’ve easily facetimed or snapchatted instead (and to be honest we did as well), but taking the time to write to each other was our way of showing how much we meant to each other. Whenever I’d get a bit down or homesick, I was able to read her letters in her voice, and I’d always end up smiling - even when she sent me an eight-page letter where half of it was just drawings of dicks!
I still write letters - not to anyone, no one really has time to reply to letters anymore - but to people I can’t really send letters to. A past crush who I’ve lost touch with, my sister, myself; these are all people who I can pour out every little thought and reminder and memory, and no one will ever have to read them, but I know they’re out there.
That’s the amazing thing about letters - once the words are down, they’re out there, out of your mind. It’s liberating, like breaking out of a word prison.
