It really is wild that some politicians can stand there and say "yeah we're getting rid of a program that keeps quite literally millions of people alive specifically so we can cut taxes for people who are already richer than god" as if it's a normal political stance and not so cartoonishly evil I'm legit shocked perry the platypus doesn't break through the nearest wall the minute the words leave their mouth.

I mean I know a certain level of projection on fictional characters and situations is inevitable and even healthy, but sometimes you got to step back into the real world to remind yourself that Character X is not your shitty parent/abusive ex/asshole boss/bully from high school, and that people who like Character X are not personally victimizing you.

Hot take.
Cassie Sandsmark: Neither butch, nor femme, but a secret third thing…
Delia*s Catalogue poster child
Evidence below
Granted, Teen Girl fashion *was* more androgynous, then. T-shirts, tanks, cargo bottoms... but the details made the difference.
Baby-doll cuts on the tees, flares on the jeans, the accessories...
*flashbacks to 5th grade of all the girlies wiling to commit murder for a wire-thin necklace with a lil' trinket on it from Claire's*

I got my Whitestone Courage Whiskey today and the book that comes with it is great!
However, Laura's answer to "What would your characters tell you about Courage?" made me more than a little emotional so I shall share it here under the cut.
I apologize for my phone camera.

“Why are comics from [insert previous period] so good?”
You’re reading the good ones.
“No, I’m reading widely.”
No, I promise you, your major problem is you’re mostly reading older stories that fall into the following categories: 1. Stories about your favourite characters in their best known periods; 2. The titles agreed to be the best runs during the period; 3. Accessible comics that get reprints and good quality scans and recolouring and etc etc etc.
For older comics, you’re specifically choosing to go back and read that run, usually already knowing about its reputation.
While for current comics, that filtering process hasn’t occurred yet and so you’re one of the people who is helping with the filtering. You’re more likely to be reading a handful of comics that you’re not thrilled by, and that might obscure your fondness for some of the absolute bangers coming out simultaneously. Heck, you might not know which are the best books coming out, because you don’t read in that section of comics and you haven’t received a rec to try it yet.
Like, are there periods when particular families of titles are known to be super fun to follow? Sure! And there’s structural reasons for why (specific writers; head editors with a lot of control over direction; fan favourite storylines and characters present; events heavily referenced in the future; a writing style that you prefer). But I assure you, there are always some great comics coming out; equally there are always some dogshit comics coming out.
And stuff like this is why I do occasional “read every DC comic published that week” pushes – to remind myself about the misses as well as the hits (and to give myself a taste of runs I haven’t dipped into).
Probably due for another, actually – I might haul out my list.

The trope where people don't recognize each other because it's been so long since they last interacted and they've both changed so much that they're basically strangers UNTIL one of them does their Signature Thing™ and the other just stops dead because oh. It's YOU. All at once it's so clearly you

oh and when i was a year old, after i got my foot amputated my parents were pushing me around in a stroller at a street festival in miami and i was chewing on my foot or whatever and this street performer came up to us and was like “aw i bet that tastes good!!” and my dad was like “yeah look at what she did to the other one!!!!” and pulled back the blanket covering my left leg to show a stump with a huge scar on it and i’m pretty sure my dad terrified that poor man

when I was a little kid at some point I got upset with my parents because I didn't have a crucifix in my bedroom and they did- I was like why do YOU get to be safe from vampires??? you're okay with me getting my blood sucked???? so we took a little trip to the catholic store but the one closest to us was run by a group of nuns that had been moved here from romania. I got a little baby pink cross and this sweet old nun was like 'aww, is this a baptism gift?' and I was like no. I need to be protected from vampires. and she immediately got SO serious and was like 'this is the best one we've got, you'll definitely be safe' and since she was literally from vampire land I was convinced she was like, van helsing. like the whole time my parents had been laughing about how cute my fear was but she literally Knew dracula and was taking my concerns seriously I held this over my parents for so long lmfao

Important thing to remember w conversations around atheism is that it can very easily stray into 'let men be masculine' territory. 'let people be religious' ok so you're right, freedom of religion is important, but a lot of society is oriented around religion and there's pretty significant social pressure to be religious and yes there are religious minorities who are under pressure to leave their religion but they're generally being pressured to assimilate into the dominant religion not to stop being religious altogether so all in all I'm not sure who this message is for
