Summer, your art is beautiful
You’re art too no homo
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
( @hawksmess )
From top to bottom, here’s the birds that Violet’s supposed to represent (but I cannot draw birds to save my life)
1. Great Horned Owl (Sorta a medieval aesthetic, with the bow and all)
2. Snowy Owl (The one with the shotgun-looking thing, supposed to be inspired by the song title Angel With A Shotgun)
3. Common Crow (Thief looking aesthetic, I guess)
4. Red-Tailed Hawk (The one that I did last minute when I looked back on you mentioning that it’s your favorite bird. Not the best, but it’ll do. I guess it’s a law enforcer aesthetic)
Anyway yeah here they are

World Building Questions For The Winged Lands
A long post. Get ready
-What do the dragons use as fuel? Because there isn't really anything that need to have fuel. I'll substitute the question for lighting. Beach Dwellers and some other kingdoms (Cave Dwellers and Wind Riders) have firefly lanterns in honor of the Firefly Wars a long time ago. Some dragons don't need lighting as they can see just fine in their environment (Wolf Hunters have open fields of ice and snow that can reflect light for them, Ground Scorchers have fire scales and literal lava near their houses), and other kingdoms are tying to invent new ways for lighting (Thunder Claws are experimenting with their electricity, but scientists haven't found anything useful yet).
-How long does it take to travel to each kingdom? Flying to each kingdom takes less time, and will be listed as on wing instead of on talon. If you flew without stopping, you'd to you destination in these amounts of time Beach Kingdom to Cave Kingdom: 3-4 hours Beach Kingdom to Wind Kingdom: 4 hours Beach Kingdom to Wolf Kingdom: 6 hours Beach Kingdom to Thunder Kingdom: 4-5 hours Beach Kingdom to Scorched Mountains: 9-10 hours Cave Kingdom to Wind Kingdom: 7 hours Cave Kingdom to Wolf Kingdom: 10 hours Cave Kingdom to Thunder Kingdom: 8-9 hours Cave Kingdom to Scorched Mountains: 5-6 hours Wind Kingdom to Wolf Kingdom: 2 hours Wind Kingdom to Thunder Kingdom: 30 minutes-1 hour Wind Kingdom to Scorched Mountains: 13-14 hours Wolf Kingdom to Thunder Kingdom: 1-2 hours Wolf Kingdom to Scorched Mountains: 16-24 hours Thunder Kingdom to Scorched Mountains; 14-18 hours
-What kind of religions do the kingdoms have? Beach Dwellers believe in prophets and spirits of the sea. There are two main deities they would normally worship: Luminescence and Firefly. To pay respects to these deities, they host a Firefly Festival during the spring and the fall and and a Luminescent Festival during the summer. Winter is thought to be a time where the sea spirits rested to regain power and energy they will use up during their special months. Whenever the spring Firefly Festival pops up everybody will catch fireflies to keep until the Middle Feast, an event that helps end hunger across the kingdom. The fall Firefly Festival is much less partying and more ritual-orientated. Little empty lanterns are spread across the dining room table and prayers are said with every meal. Little dragonets will often sleep with a lantern that holds one firefly inside. Luminescent Festivals include lots of partying! There are sports, competitions for sculpting and various recreational arts, and lots of activities to take part in no matter what your age is. At the end of the Luminescent Festival, dragonets are given trinkets or jewelry that they are allowed to keep. Beach Dwellers would probably call their religion something along the lines of Seerism or Candescence. (For religious reasons, this means nobody is allowed to be named Candescence.)
As for the Cave Dwellers, they are a bit less strict on their religion. A fraction of the kingdom comes from a different kingdom, after all. However, the royal family still has a "goddess" they respect- Victoria, the founder of their kingdom. It might be called Victorianity, as members would probably be called Victorian. The concept is, before important events such as weddings and royal challenges, Victorians will say or sing a little prayer in the name of Victoria before doing whatever it is they're going to do. There aren't any particular rituals that must be followed.
Wolf Hunters worship three deities, and share a deity with the Beach Dwellers- Luminescence. As the founder of the No-Wings, she is prominent in the religion of the Wolf Hunter kingdom. Their second deity is known as Eagle, Firefly's sister, and the third is The Mother, or Panther. They don't often host festivals for their deities, but they have built a few churches for worship and prayer. Their religion might be called Brilliance, as the religion itself is somewhat similar to Candescence.
Thunder Claws are atheists. as they do not worship any dragon of importance to their kingdom's history. Some, however, worship Panther and call her The Mother.
Wind Riders believe that their founder, Zephyr, was the god of gender equality and marriage. This affects the role of rulers and the role of their spouses greatly, leading to equal power between the two. To worship Zephyr, Wind Riders have a sort of festival, called the Song of The Breeze. It's basically a very religious concert where young dragonets can show off their talents and sing songs in praise of their god. They'd more than likely call their religion something like Tempestry.
Ground Scorchers have a government-enforced religion known as Koyotism. King Inferno insists that they worship their founder Coyote as a goddess, and anybody who isn't seen with at least one portrait of her in their house either fixes that problem or gets publicly executed. King Inferno claims that Coyote gives him the right to rule... yeah, right, you grumpy old fart. More like you gave yourself the right to rule.
-What is each kingdom's capital city, major cities, size, and military setup? The Beach Kingdom's capital is called Luminescent City, named after the founder of their kingdom. A few major cities would be Pearl Bay, Volcano City, and Trout Island. The current population is roughly 45,000 dragons, and they take up a good portion of the shorelines of The Fanged Lands. (One of the two continents, and the warmer one.) Their military is made up of volunteers, and much like the U.S. Navy, called the Shoreliners. The enlistment age- just like all the other armies, with the exception of the Ground Scorchers- is 8 years old. That's adult dragon age.
The capital of the Cave Kingdom is called Marigold Cavern, and the major cities of the kingdom are Hemlock Cavern and Baptisia Cavern. As the kingdom lives mostly underground it can expand to quite a large size- it's currently at about 49,000 adult citizens. The military setup is also made up of volunteers, but it's slightly smaller than the rest of the kingdoms' armies. Soldiers who work part-time are called Shaded, and full-time soldiers are called Shadowed.
Wolf Kingdom's capital is Permafrost. The major cities which surround it are Glacier, Orca, and Evergreen. The current population is quite large because the entire kingdom inhabits the Frost Lands. (One of the two continents, and the colder one.) There are estimated to be around 60,000 individuals in the kingdom. Their military is voluntary, but every now and then there is a draft that takes in citizens that are homeless or in need of a job. Around 20,000 dragons stand in the military alone. There is no specific name for soldiers in their military.
Wind Riders have a capital called Stratus City, and have only one major city named Falcon Rocks. There are a lot less Wind Riders than any other kingdom, the number being somewhere between 20,000-23,000 citizens. Their military is made up of some volunteers, but most of their defenses would come from the Thunder Kingdom, their ally.
Speaking of, the Thunder Kingdom's capital city is known as The Capital, as its original name has been lost to time. There are no known major cities, but a common fact among the rest of the kingdoms is that there's somewhere around 50,000 dragons in the kingdom. An even more well-known fact is that their military is flawless. There are Wings of troops, easily to deploy, and they’re all volunteers. Other kingdoms are amazed at their strength and skill. The Thunder Kingdom is certainly not the kingdom to mess with.
The Ground Scorchers do not have a capital, mainly because they don't even have cities to make into capitals. There are about 5,000-10,000 dragons in the kingdom. Their military is somewhat ruthless. Under King Inferno's rule, dragonets often get to kill their first dragon by themselves at the age of 5. Right after they pass their assassination test, they enroll in a Third School that's more like a boot camp than a Third School. So, about every single one of the Ground Scorchers can kill 10 Beach Dweller Shoreliners with their bare claws. King Inferno is delighted that he has so many killing machines at his disposal.
-What are the gender roles of each kingdom? Beach Dwellers, Cave Dwellers, and Wolf Hunters have an unspoken rule for gender equality. However, Wind Riders enforce gender equality fiercely and will not stop doing so until the world ends. Thunder Claws believe females are more powerful than males, and Ground Scorchers believe that males are more powerful than females.
-Do the kingdoms have specific languages or accents? No, not really, Some kingdoms might have a more southern drawl to their words than others, but for the most part they all have similar accents and share a common language.
-Are there any particular books or works of literature that the kingdoms enjoy? Yes! The Wolf Kingdom absolutely adores Teardrops, and call it a classic mixture of musicals and poetry. They will continue loving it forever, don't you know?
-Any opportunities for nightlife within the kingdoms? There are some places in the Beach Kingdom specifically built for parties, and Wind Riders will often have a non-alcoholic bar that offers a chance for aspiring stand-up comedians. Most other kingdoms will have something of the like.
-Are there wizard dragons or dragons that can use magic? Hexmasters are the most common word for these dragons, and their magic is genetic. There's no real way to trace it back in time, but it probably had something to do with a strange event called Panther's Fury. These Hexmasters can utter a phrase and set a dragon on fire, or they can say something under their breath and instantly fix a broken vase. However, this magic may come with consequences, and a few examples include loss of sanity, you might slowly turn to stone, your body can wither away, you can feel overheated or colder than a glacier from the Frost Lands, you can feel exhausted from using your power too much, or feel immense pain if you overwork yourself. However, some Hexmasters don't have any of these, and their power only grows with practice. Wind Riders have outlawed Hexmasters and anything that is hexed. (A hexed object is something created by a Hexmaster to produce a certain outcome, like a necklace that protects the wearer from fire or a bracelet that can turn the wearer invisible.) If they find that a dragon has been born a Hexmaster, they mysteriously disappear the following day.
-What kind of world does The Winged Lands take place in? The world has a somewhat wacky climate. It's somewhat similar to Earth, but its tilt makes the days in the Fanged Lands longer and hotter than the days in the Frost Lands. There are also other continents on the planet, but they haven't been explored yet and don't really contain much. Just a few chunks of ice and dusty, suspicious yellow rocks.
-Which characters have poor mental health that they hide? Ouch. It would probably be Rattlesnake. She's been raised to kill, and most of her fellow Ground Scorchers also have trauma from seeing so much death. King Inferno can be a bit messed up sometimes, especially when it comes to dragonets. It's not just that. Rattlesnake has been killing dragons ever since she was around 2-3 years old. She passed her assassination test super early, and King Inferno thought he could use that to his advantage. She was also shunned by her family, so that may have played a role in her tendencies to push others away.
-Which characters act as if they have no opinions on the others, but they are actually really caring? Rattlesnake is also applicable to this question, but I wanna also say Smog. It's not that he hates anyone, he just doesn't feel the need to rant to them. He has advanced empathy, which is surprising for a Thunder Claws prince.
-Which characters find it hard to open up to others? Probably Rattlesnake, Smog, and Turbulence. They all have a bit of a rough past, and each carries their own secret that they'd rather die than give up to a stranger.
-What kind of jewelry and perfume do the kingdom nobles wear? Beach Dweller nobles and royalty will often wear at least one bracelet or necklace. Some get wing piercings, others get tail rings or ear piercings. Any perfume they wear will smell like coconut, flowers, or fruit. Cave Dwellers also can get wing piercings, and a majority of them wear necklaces, earrings, whatever they find fashionable. The perfume that males use often smell like eucalyptus or spearmint, and females might wear the same thing. One thing is for certain, though: they all think the lavender-vanilla scent is to DIE for. Wolf Hunters also have earrings, but they also like to wear rings and chestplates embedded with things like lapis lazuli and diamonds. Wolf Hunters associate jewelry with marriage, so unmarried dragons often have smaller and less pieces of jewelry rather than elaborate wedding bands and chestplates. They consider wing piercings impractical. Wolf Hunter perfume would be musty and smell like Old Spice or something. They don't like floral scents as much as they like their strong-smelling cologne. Wind Riders don't have as much jewelry but they will sometimes have bracelets and anklets that they jingle around. Royalty, however, have no jewelry whatsoever. They don't even have any holes in their bodies from piercings. The perfume of nobles can invigorate and refresh the mind, and smells of fresh linen and lemon. Royal Wind Riders don't wear perfume either. Thunder Claws lack a taste in perfume, but they often have piercing everywhere on their bodies, from their wings and tails to their noses and ears. They may not have fancy jewels on them, but it still looks good. Ground Scorchers have a unique type of jewelry- horn rings. Nobles will often wear them as a sign of power or social position. They also have tail rings, but don't often get wing piercings because they think it's impractical, similar to the Wolf Hunters' beliefs. They don't often wear perfume, and would rather reek of blood than anything.
-What kind of currency is used in the Winged Lands? The kingdoms had a hard time trying to solve this problem, but they decided that the currency would be measured in a unit called Bets, Gambles, and Allins. A Bet would be considered twenty-five cents, or somewhere close to that, Five Bets make a Gamble. Gambles are equal to a dollar. Ten Gambles would make an Allin. Allins are worth about five dollars. A Bet has the appearance of a small silver coin with the letter B engraved into it. A Gambles is a moderately bigger silver coin, with the letter G engraved on it. It is impossible to mistaken a Bet for a Gamble. Allins are a flat disk of a silver-gold alloy, with the letter A delicately engraved into it.
-What kind of bugs can you find in the Winged Lands? In the Frost Lands, you cannot find any bugs due to the subzero temperatures there. However, the Middle has a lot of mosquitoes. (The Middle is a string of islands between the Frost and Fanged Lands. It's where the Wind Riders and Thunder Claws live.) In the Fanged Lands, praying mantises, some mosquitoes, butterflies, and various other bugs can be found.
-Are there any kinds of experiments or forms of research considered immoral to the characters in the Winged Lands? No, not yet... Not until a specific part in the story.
-What kind of education is there in the Winged Lands? There are three basic levels of school- First School (Elementary/Primary school), Second School (Middle/Secondary school), and Third School (High School). When a dragonet turns 8 and becomes an adult, they graduate Third School and can choose to go to Fourth School (College) or get a job in a general field. There are three fields as well- background field (baker, artist, farmer, stuff that doesn't exactly require a master's degree), general field (teacher, scientist, architect, festival conductor is there's festivals, ect.), and foreground field (biologist, librarian, professor, ect.). Dragonets can choose to drop out of school after Second School to pursue jobs in the background field, or they can choose to go to Third School and be able to pursue jobs in the general field. About half of all dragonets decide to go to Fourth School to get a degree for foreground jobs. Curriculums can vary from kingdom to kingdom, but it's generally the same... Except for the Ground Scorchers. Poor kids.
-Do the kingdoms use weapons to fight? Not all of them, but some will create weapons to fight with. A famous example are the Cave Dwellers. They can shed the leaf-like shapes on their tails and bind them to sticks to create razor-sharp spears. Of course, their tail shapes grow back. There have also been a few Wind Riders who create knife-like weapons with discarded wood they might find.
-What kind of intimacy is normal for platonic relationships? Does it vary between different dragons of different kingdoms? Often the most intimate friends will get is cuddling to keep each other warm, but it can vary from kingdom to kingdom. Dragons of different kingdoms can be friendlier or less intimate depending on their social position. Two peasants from different kingdoms could probably also cuddle for warmth as if they were the same subspecies, but two nobles could probably go so far as to hold talons and that's it.
-How are dragons of different gender expected to act around each other? Often, they can be as friendly and as casual as they want to be unless they're somewhere formal and they are unmarried. However, Thunder Claws and Ground Scorchers have different customs. Female Thunder Claws are respected by males and female Ground Scorchers are expected to obey any male Ground Scorcher.
-How are dragons of different social positions expected to act around each other? Peasants and lower class dragons are expected to give nobles full hospitality no matter what their business is. It isn't often that somebody that works in the background field meets somebody that works in the foreground field. However, lower class dragons are allowed to be more casual around middle class dragons. Middle class dragons are often respectful but not enslaved to nobles.
-How is a divorce viewed in the kingdoms? It depends on who demands it, the relationship the two dragons had, and what kingdom they're from. Most of the kingdoms are fine with it, with the exception of Wolf Hunters. They believe that marriage requires commitment, and why would you get married if you didn't like each other in the end?
-What counts as personal space and how important is it? If two dragons are standing about a foot away from each other, that's as close as they should get. It is important for dragons to have their personal space, but if they don't mind it being invaded, then they won't see it as something important.
-Does piracy exist in the Winged Lands? How big of a problem is it? There is legend of a group of dragons that live in a peculiar building made to be on water. They call themselves The Fates, and they are known to be an absolute menace. Any dragon that turns one of them in gets a generous prize.
-Are dragonets treated differently because of their gender? What are the differences? More often than not, dragonets are given the same education and raised the same. The Ground Scorchers, however, believe that females should take up jobs that require less physical work, and males are given combat training lessons after their assassination test to prepare for the army.
-Are there robots or machines in the Winged Lands? What are they for? There are prosthetic limbs for dragons that were either born without a leg or had to have a part of their body amputated. There is a legendary dragon known as Clockwork who, as a Hexmaster that had the consequence of withering away, to prevent his entire body from failing on him, he substituted most of his body parts for machinery.
-What does courtship look like in the Winged Lands? Often the two dragons start to take an interest in each other, and if they have enough courage to confess to one another, they will often wrap their tails together, put a wing over each other, and hold talons. Dating doesn't look like much, but it's obvious the dragons are fond of each other.
-What architectural features are common in the kingdoms? Beach Dweller will often have houses shaped like normal houses, Cave Dwellers carve out burrows and have a love for arks, Wolf Hunters often have buildings with designs that give a sense of movement to the building, Wind Riders have lots of murals, Thunder Claws also have normal-looking houses, and Ground Scorchers... don't have architecture to begin with. They live in a volcano, which obviously means their house might get melted and destroyed.
-What are the rules of war for the Winged Lands? Some acts are considered forbidden and if a leader or dragon does any of those acts they are immediately executed. These might include rape, burning things to the ground, genocide, and taking hostages.
-How is killing in self defense viewed in the kingdoms? It's justified. Completely and utterly justified.
-Does therapy exist in the kingdoms? Yes, but it's still a work in progress. There are few dragons that actually go to a therapist, because their family is usually a better substitute.
-How do dragons explain to their children where they came from? It sounds a bit like this: "Your mother and father were okay with raising a family, and then your father gave his genetic material to your mother, who then laid you as an egg. You hatched 10 months later."
-Any famous dragons? A lot. From oldest to youngest, there's Panther (mother of the entire species), Diamond (a prominent writer who created the play Teardrops), the founders of the kingdoms, Phoenix (a dragoness who revolutionized the armies of the modern kingdoms), the Eris Throne Rivals (who created the Beach Dwellers and Wolf Hunters), Vulture (a dragoness that ended the Rule of the Shadows), Feather (a dragoness who made outstanding contributions to the field of medicine), and Grievance (a dragon who made outstanding contributions to the field of psychology and helped create the idea and concept of therapy).
-When are dragonets considered adults? At the age of 8 years old, dragonets are considered adults. They can get married and raise their own family, get a job, go to Fourth School to continue their education, and do adult things in general.
-Are there any unearthly plants on this dragon-inhabited planet? Yes. There are a few plants which contain a neurotoxin that can be used to make dragons experience symptoms similar to schizophrenia, and they're called Illusion Orchids. They are parasites that will grow on cherry and apple trees, and the berries they produce are similar in appearance to either fruit, depending on the species. The berries contain the nuerotoxin. There are also Star Flowers, which are incredibly rare and are said to be a gift from Panther herself. Almost miraculous, they will kill off any diseases or parasites in the body, and increase the amount of nutrients that are carried in your bloodstream. The berries they produce are a bit more like acorns than fruit. With a brittle exterior that's about half a millimeter in thickness, the fruit inside is easy to squish and tear apart. The flowers themselves are a light cream with yellow patterns, very attractive to butterflies and bees alike.
-How do the kingdoms deal with incompetent leaders? Royalty would challenge the current ruler in a fight to the death. If they win, they become the new ruler. However, the Ground Scorcher noble families can challenge the ruler every 30 years if they think the current leader is incompetent.
-What do the kingdoms do for fun? Beach Dwellers often go for walks on the beach, and might also do carvings of various objects from palm tree bark. Cave Dwellers might create mosaics out of crystals they find deep in the stone they live in. Wolf Hunters will make art and music, or maybe design jewelry. Wind Riders will do stand up comedy and trade. Thunder Claws will spar to keep their skills sharp. Ground Scorchers might do contracts in their spare time.
-What are the three most common flowers in the Winged Lands? Lavender, Illusion Orchids, and cherry blossoms. Some families grow lavender and Illusion Orchids to create medicine that acts as an antidepressant and can help dragons sleep. These families will also grow cherry trees because the kind of Illusion Orchid they use will only invade that type of tree.

“Why Would I Go If You Couldn’t Be There With Me?”
Igloo hastily made her way over to her dragoness of interest, brushing her feathered tail against Rattlesnake's warm scales to get her attention. “Hey. We need a course of action.” She tells the Ground Scorcher in a hushed, urgent voice. Rattlesnake nods and stands up immediately. “Where are we meeting?”  She asked. Igloo jerked her head to the entrance of the cave. “Outside. Away from this cave. I hate it in here.” The princess replies, and turned away before her friend could say anything else.
Igloo was glad to be able to breathe fresh air again. The cave was always so musty and she hated the lack of cold wind to tell her if snow was going to fall. Rattlesnake followed her as she spread her wings and glided to one of the other caves on the sides of the gorge. The pair of dragons kept flying for a few minutes before Igloo dived downward to one of the lower caves. When she landed and looked behind her she also saw Rattlesnake land with a much softer thud. Igloo made her way into the back of the cave and was relieved to find that her chosen meeting place was empty.
She motioned to the mossy stone benches with her wing before taking a seat herself. Rattlesnake followed her orders and sat down opposite of the larger dragoness, dainty talons folded politely in front of her. Igloo found it hard believe she’s spilled the blood of countless victims with such small talons.
“What are we discussing?” She asked, an attentive expression on her face. Igloo shook her head and smiled at her, trying to keep her eyes open as she talked to the dragon she’s bonded with the most during the past few months. “Oh, I just wanted to ask you about what your life was before this crazy mission to break up a war...Not that I’m complaining about my situation. I met you because of it.” Rattlesnake perked up at her response, eyes widening slightly. “...Should I be taking that as a compliment?” She asked, a smile tugging at her lips. Igloo nodded. “Of course. You’re really pretty. I’m kinda jealous.” The Wolf Hunter waved a talon as of she were trying to swat away gnats, taking note of Rattlesnake’s expression of almost-shock. “So, tell me, what kind of family do you come from, ‘snake?”
“Uh...A really...undesirable...one, I guess.” The dark crimson dragoness replied quietly, keeping her eyes on the stone table and studying the intricate designs that had been scratched into it. Igloo’s eyebrows knit together in concern. “Undesirable?” She repeated, talons snaking across the table to hold Rattlesnake’s much warmer ones. When the aforementioned dragoness didn’t protest, her friend took her talons and held them firmly. “How so?” Igloo asked.
“Um...” Rattlesnake was uncharacteristically shy about the topic. It only served to make the princess squeeze her talons for some kind of reassurance.”It’s okay if you can’t talk about it, but if it’s worse than what you just told me, let me know, alright?” Igloo asked her friend, noticing that she squeezed her talons back.
“I can talk, I’m just trying to figure out how to say it.” The Ground Scorcher offered her silver-scaled companion a smile that tempted the colder to hug her tightly. “I’d say that they’re kinda, I dunno. right about everything but they’re so smug about it? I always hate to admit I’m wrong because then they can rub it in somebody’s face at random.” Rattlesnake explained somewhat bitterly, an unusual smile on her face like she just ate something unexpectedly salty.
Igloo’s shoulders slumped at those words. “Oh...doesn’t sound like a very fun family.” She commented, feeling awkward. While Igloo knew she had it somewhat easy because her family got along so well, she could never imagine a dragon as sweet as the one in front of her could go through such a rough upbringing.
“Could you tell me about your family, Igloo?” Rattlesnake asked, eyebrows raised in genuine curiosity. The silver dragoness met her gaze and felt her fatigue lift from her eyelids. She was awake and hopeful and she didn’t know why. “I can,” She started, but her mind almost drew a complete blank after she said that.
“...Of course, you know that my uncle rules the Wolf Hunter kingdom. You know, that really nice guy that’ll totally bake you cookies if you asked him to? He leads entire armies into battles when his allies are in trouble.” Igloo smiles when she described Blizzard. Rattlesnake nodded. “Sounds like a great uncle. I don’t know any of my uncles or aunts.” She comments. Igloo felt guilt rise like bile in her throat. “I’m so sorry about your personal situation... I know that I had it easy for all of my life.”
“You faced just as much stress as I did, back there. It was just a different kind of stress.” The Ground Scorcher replies, glancing towards the entrance of the cave as if she thought somebody was going to pop up there and interrupt them. She made eye contact with the princess and smiled. “Continue, if you want.”
“My mother, the king’s sister, is... she died when she challenged Blizzard for the throne and lost. He’s the ruler for a reason, you know.” Igloo traced circles with her silver-stained claws into the back of Rattlesnake’s talons, forcing out any sadness in her system. “My dad is still alive and kicking, though... I just don’t see him much. He’s not exactly connected to the family anymore, but Frostbite still invites him to celebrations when she can... Speaking of, everyone thinks my sister is gonna become the new ruler. She’s smart, really strong, and she matches Blizzard’s kindness. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was secretly his daughter.” The Wolf Hunter joked with a sly look on her expression. “Frostbite and Sleet are actually graduating Third School next month. I hope I can wrap up this whole King Inferno thing before then so I can attend their ceremony.” She continues, glancing at Rattlesnake and losing any additional words.
“I know it sounds weird to do something concerned with a completely different kingdom, but... Could I attend the ceremony with you, if it’s possible?” The fire-breathing assassin asked bashfully. Igloo paused at the question, then smiled from ear to ear and excitedly nodded.
“Yeah! You could! I should write something down right now for you!” She answered and looked around the room for anything remotely similar to parchment. Rattlesnake retracted a talon and reached into a side bag she had on her, pulling out a small scroll and a bottle of ink then setting it down on the table. “Wow. You planned this?” Igloo asked while she unrolled the blank scroll and tore a portion of it off. “No, but it just so happens I have this kind of stuff on me in case I need it.” Rattlesnake answered, accepting what was left of the scroll that the princess handed her. She put it back in her side bag and looked up to see her progress.
Igloo finished scribbling the words for an official royal invitation (which Frostbite had helped her memorize in case she ever wanted anybody over at parties- thanks Frostbite) and started drawing the stamp that verified the little scrap of paper. “Hopefully I can prove that you should be at the graduation in person, but if I can’t make it for any reason then you have this.” She chattered and presented the invitation to her friend, who took it somewhat shakily. “Thank you...” Rattlesnake breathed, holding the slip of parchment with a look of almost amazement on her face. “The only royal events I’ve ever gone to are executions made by King Inferno... Are you sure I’m not gonna look weird surrounded by silver and blue dragons? Not to mention that I don’t have the best manners...”
Igloo laughed and rolled her eyes as Rattlesnake stored the ink and the invitation in her side bag. “Nonsense. You’ll put nobles to shame with your courtesy and mannerisms. I’ve seen you get polite with me before.” She teased her friend. Rattlesnake? Not having the best manners? I find that hard to believe.
“Uh, it might not make sense in this context, but... Why would you not be able to go to your own sibling’s graduation?” Rattlesnake broke the silence in the air, but it seemed as though reality itself was forgiving her for it. The air around her was void of any awkward feelings. Igloo was amazed at her abilities, both physical and emotional. The colder of the pair found it almost too easy to reply.
“Eh, you know... Maybe somebody tries to kill me or something. I am royalty, after all.” Igloo explained, a hint of bitterness in her words. Sometimes she hates being connected to the dragon that rules. It can suck and put you in danger.
“I know this might sound weird, but why would I go if you couldn’t be there with me?” Rattlesnake implored, keeping her eyes on the table again.
Igloo blinked from shock. “Repeat that?” She asked, not quite processing those words. The Ground Scorcher looked embarrassed about what she just said. “Um... What would I do without you beside me?” She changed her question. She flicked her ears and a few embers flew out of them. Igloo found it interesting. “Why are there bonfires in you ears. ‘snake?” She asked, reaching over to touch one of them.
Rattlesnake shook her head and motioned to the entrance of the cave. “We should be going, Igloo.” She said, making her way to the edge and tapping on a few of the cave liners. It sounded like she was punching metal. The Wolf Hunter shrugged and followed her friend’s lead.

Igloo Is Super Gay, Sorry To The Dudes Who Liked Her
Igloo is the niece of King Blizzard, and alongside her older siblings is into everything remotely related to books. She attends a private school but would like to go to a public one to see what it’s like.
We’ll figure her out a bit in this post
Princess Igloo, usually just called Igloo, is a female Wolf Hunter who’s about 7 years old. Her appearance includes silver scales, hooked claws that are stained at the tips with silver, and green eyes. She’s considering getting glasses to help her read better. She gives off major Cricket vibes.
Her family consists of her uncle (King Blizzard, a beloved king), her mother (Orca, Blizzard’s sister who died shortly after having Igloo due to losing a royal challenge), her father (Yarrow, a dragon of noble heritage who just so happens to have a Cave Dweller grandmother), her older sister (Frostbite, an intelligent young adult who is already contributing greatly in the fields of science and mathematics), and her older brother (Sleet, Frostbite’s clutchmate and a soldier in the Wolf Hunter army). Igloo has close relationships with all of her family, even if she couldn’t see her father often.
Her theme song would be Fireflies (she always expresses curiosity about the world, and would love to see fireflies in real life one day).
Here’s her personal opinions on the dragons she now spends time with (Kinda spoiler-ish about the dragons not discussed yet, so... be careful)
Flounder isn’t the worst dragon to spend time with, but he also doesn’t express much interest in literature. Igloo would rather talk to Coconut.
Speaking of Coconut, she thinks he’s a great friend, and loves singing songs from Teardrops with him. Her thoughts on his pacifism are positive, if not a little bemused.
Rattlesnake is the only dragon Igloo genuinely wants to spend more time with. There’s something about her that makes avalanches go off in the princess’s stomach. She might ask her out after they save the continent.
Smog, as fellow royalty, warmed up to Igloo fairly quickly, and told her he would like to be allies if they end up both being rulers. She shook his talon on it and now they quietly bond over drawing and reading in the same room.
Turbulence, as far as most Wind Riders go, is pretty cool in her opinion. Igloo noticed that Rattlesnake doesn’t get along with her very well, and admires that the assassin can stand a complete 180 to her personality annoying her all day.
Honeybee, also as fellow royalty, likes to talk to Igloo about what might be happening in their kingdoms. She notices that the Cave Dweller is very concerned for her citizens, even though she hasn’t met most of them.
Igloo is a lot more complex than just this, as many can tell. She might be expanded on later, but this will be it for now.

Rattlesnake Is Your Neighborhood Disaster Bisexual Who Would Only Drink Healthy Amounts Of Alcohol
Rattlesnake is a female Ground Scorcher who’s around 6 years and 3 months old. Her physical description includes dark crimson, flexible scales that glow in the dark, dark blue markings, and pale blue eyes that are almost constantly dilated to needles. Rattlesnake is the smallest in her group, contrary to beliefs that Honeybee is the smallest. She is an assassin for her king, apparently the best in the kingdom. She’s smart, often comes off as masculine to other dragons, and arguably the kindest in her family. Even if she’s a little rough around the edges, she still has manners at the end of the day. (If she’s intimidated by you, she’s very polite and quiet.)
So obviously we’ll snoop around in her personal life.
Her family consists of her mother (Hysteria, one of Kind Inferno’s Seven Deadly Sins), her father (Pestilence, also one of the Seven Deadly Sins), her half brother (Ember, an aspiring Deadly Sin), and her half sisters (Iguana and Greed, aspiring assassins who’d rather drown Rattlesnake than stand her presence for another moment). She often spends her time in her designated room that King Inferno built specifically for her in exchange for her services. Rattlesnake is completely disowned by her mother, but she doesn’t mind. She figured that she could rise to fame through her flawlessly executed contract history.
She obviously seems a lot like Peril, but I think she has a lot more in common with Glory. Her theme song would be Seven Rings (if she could actually afford it, she would spoil her friends with all kinds of luxuries. “My skin is gleaming” and “Who knew I would turn into a savage?” fit her perfectly, too.)
What does she think about her fellow outcasts, though? (A little spoilery, read at your own risk)
Flounder is adorable in her mind. She thinks of him as somewhat childish, but doesn’t  mind. He’s trying his best, and she can understand.
Coconut’s also absolutely adorable. Rattlesnake enjoys spending time with him. He makes her think creatively, and she finds that invigorating.
She has a close relationship with Igloo, and thinks of the princess highly. If anything were to happen to Igloo, Rattlesnake would be lost as to what to do. (She doesn’t exactly know if she’s fallen in love yet, but she’ll keep herself updated if anything new pops up)
Smog is a respectable dragon in her eyes. Rattlesnake knows he’s genuine; she can read it easily in the way he behaves. She encourages him to become Ruler when he grows up. They like to draw and collaborate together often.
Honeybee is kind of like a daughter to her. They will sometimes talk about colors and art, other times they discuss poetry. Honeybee once went up to Rattlesnake and asked to write a story with her. The assassin felt honored to accept the offer.
Turbulence and Rattlesnake have a bit of a rocky relationship, but they always smooth out their differences in front of other dragons. When they’re alone they feel obliged to try and talk out whatever they want to argue about. Rattlesnake is one of the only dragons to see Turbulence’s serious side.
Rattlesnake has a lot more depth than just what’s in this post, so I might dive in deeper later. For now, I’ll go on to Igloo.

Spotlight For Coconut, My Pacifist Pretty-Boy
Coconut is a male Beach Dweller who has a firm belief in sparing as many dragons as possible. His twin brother, Flounder, is always concerned about him and what he does in his free time. He is 6 years and 4 months old.
His character will be broken down into manageable chunks here.
His family is directly connected to their Ruler, Queen Iridescence. As a result, they’re very wealthy and live close to the castle. Coconut is an artistic student, constantly drawing about dragons at peace, helping animals and other dragons. Though his teachers are a little amazed at his lack of aggression, he has never been bothered by his unwillingness to be hostile. He is very close to his siblings, and very willing to listen to Shimmer talk about her imaginary friends. His relationship with Eel is somewhat odd, however. As his older sister, she is supposed to be cold to him and try to teach him. Instead she is always encouraging him to draw his depictions of peace, usually holding him close and keeping him warm throughout the winter nights.
A physical description includes light tan scales that turn green when wet, amber eyes, and markings that blend in perfectly with the rest of his body. Dragons are surprised to hear that they’re twins.
He has a lot of Sunny vibes coming off him. I think his theme song would be High Hopes (He always wants to see the better side of dragons, and will try his best to not give up in any circumstance)
His personal thoughts on the other misfit dragon are as follows (this means that it might contain some spoiler-ish details about the group)
He obviously loves his brother, Flounder, very dearly. Whenever his twin isn’t around, Coconut is considerably quieter and stands close to the walls of the room.
Rattlesnake is kind towards him, and always offers to draw with him when she can spare some time. They often have long, cryptic conversations that only they can completely understand. Coconut is strongly reminded of Eel when he looks at her.
Honeybee is also kind, but in the most motherly way possible. Coconut considers her the mom that Oyster could never be. She encourages his art passionately, and offers supplies such as paint and ink.
Smog likes his art style, and Coconut is excited to have a fellow artist. Sure, Rattlesnake is a good sketcher, but Smog has years of experience under his royal wings. His teachers must’ve surely shown him the best techniques! Smog appreciates the praise that Coconut showers him in.
Igloo often reads to Coconut when she’s not off discussing important matters with Rattlesnake. She loves to narrate old nursery rhymes and recite scenes from Teardrops with him. Their favorite recitals are When Will The Rain Stop and Everlasting Teardrops.
Turbulence is an enigma to Coconut, and he’s absolutely engrossed in learning about her. He views all the dragons in his misfit group as his parents except for her. He thinks she’s kinda like an actual big sister.
Coconut’s character obviously extends beyond this bio, but that’s the basics for him. He’s a sweetheart wrapped in love and affection!

Introducing Flounder, My Very Nervous Boy!
Flounder is one of the main characters of what I’ll call The Winged Lands, short for Tales Of The Winged Lands. It’s essentially Wings Of Fire with different tribes and characters, very indulgent, very gay, y’know the drill. Flounder just so happens to be one the young and promising Beach Dweller youths that sneak out and spend nights away from family for their own reasons.
I’ll try my best to explain Flounder’s background and character.
Flounder is a male Beach Dweller, around 6 years and 4 months old, and a fine student in the private school he’s enrolled in. His family consists of his mother (Oyster, one of the seven Beach Dweller supreme justices), his father (Sunfish, the current royal treasurer), his twin brother (Coconut, who looks almost nothing like him but is easily his favorite dragon nevertheless), and his older and younger sisters (Eel and Shimmer, respectively). Flounder and Coconut are the middle children, often neglected by their parents and never kept under a close eye. This gave them free reign to do whatever they wanted on most nights, while their parents were attending important meetings and the like. The twins spent their nights under the stars and on the rocky shores they called home, unaware of the struggles that Eel faced taking care of her little sister.
Although Flounder is considered more responsible he lacks self esteem and cannot assert himself to save his life. He’s often described as jumpy or shy. The truth is, he just really wants to learn everything about the world, but he’s always nervous he might creep other dragons out with his curiosity. He probably gives me more Starflight vibes than anything else. The song I’d most associate with him is Careless Whispers (He’s afraid of failing his friends, in a sense.)
Shimmer always tells him about her imaginary friends when he gets home from school. Flounder doesn’t mind that. He thinks Shimmer will become an author when she grows up.
As for a physical description, he has light gray scales that turn dark indigo when wet, amber eyes, and markings that resemble sea urchins on his shoulders and thighs. A reference might be drawn sometime in the future.
Flounder’s opinions on his peers are usually positive or aren’t often viewed as aggressive. Here’s some spoiler-ish details about his personal thoughts
Rattlesnake is one of the dragons he feels immensely drawn towards. Objectively, Flounder finds her attractive and somewhat unnerving to behold. He thinks of her as a great friend and ally. He might be developing a crush on her...
Coconut is obviously his ride or die dragon. He simply cannot let his twin brother get hurt, or his heart might break. Flounder admires his desire to help others. The bond he has with Coconut is stronger than an entire army of Thunder Claws
Honeybee is a little bit confusing to Flounder. He’s not sure whether to question her until he explodes or to leave her alone for the rest of his life. He still appreciates her friendly demeanor and overall concern for everyone else in the ragtag team of misfits.
Smog hasn’t threatened him yet, so he guesses he can trust him to some extent. Flounder’s very interested in his art. He thinks the prince is talented.
Turbulence seems to be a good dragon in his eyes. She’s funny, always trying to contribute to a conversation, and overall fascinating to observe when she doesn’t have an audience to perform for. Flounder figures she might be hiding something, though. He’s not sure about trusting her.
Igloo is somewhat sweet to him. Flounder likes her as much as he likes Rattlesnake. He has overheard a bit of conversation between the princess and the assassin, however. Igloo was thanking Rattlesnake for something. He’s not sure what for, though.
That’s all about Flounder, folks. Any questions are sure to be answered, but for now I’ll type up something shorter for Coconut. It might be posted a bit after this post. Farewell for a while, y’all

First Time Writing For Tumblr! Of Course It’ll Be About Dragons
“You know, I thought about it. And I’ve come to the conclusion that you don’t want to kill me for real.” “Oh really, what gave me away.” (Source: You could probably find this if you searched writing prompts) --------------------------------
The stone floor was not a good place to get knocked out on, and Flounder really hated the position he was in. The dragoness who had him hog tied was rapping her knuckles furiously against the stones that lined the entrance of Stowaway Cave (At least, Flounder only remembers Stowaway Cave having the bands of gray and orange rocks inside of it), but the water was trickling between the gaps of the inorganic material despite what cave liners were supposed to be used for. She looked furious about something.
"Uh, hey, dumb question, but..." Flounder barely had vocal cords to speak with; it felt like somebody shoved a sea urchin down his throat. "What are we waiting for?" He hated the way his voice cracked. He also hated the way the dragoness looked back at him, as if he were an annoying eel that wouldn't let go of her concerningly sharp tail. She wasn't like any Beach Dweller Flounder had met before. Her scales practically glowed with the fury of fire. She had strange pale blue eyes and every time she knocked on the stones with her talons it sounded like she was punching metal. He especially hated the fact that he was at this oddly beautiful dragon's mercy.
Despite how much glaring she was doing the dragoness didn't answer, and looked back out at the storming sky. "Hey, o' fiery one. Answer me." Flounder demanded as he once again struggled at the chains keeping him captive. The only 'answer' he got was a flick of the razor-lined tail that she possessed. He was definitely testing her patience, and he planned to push every button he possibly could. "Who are we waiting for? The sky to be clear? I mean, you dragged me out in the pouring rain for a reason-"
"Enough, Flounder." The dragoness stopped rapping her talon against the rock and seemed to tense up. Her voice was surprisingly soft, but it was powerful in the cave. Just hearing it made Flounder pause for a second. She sounded familiar. But he'd never even imagined the likes of this dragon. "What are you gonna do? You haven't killed me yet, and I think that means I'm important. I'm just gonna bother you until- wait, how do you know my name?" The Beach Dweller suddenly blurted out alongside his twenty other questions and statements. The dragoness's shoulders slumped. She shook her head, stood up, and walked over to Flounder. She look very agitated about having to answer to a dragon that she was keeping captive. Just her gaze made Flounder reconsider testing her. She made a defeated noise and finally replied to him.
"You really like knowing your limits. I understand that, but if you don't shut up this very instant I won't hesitate to pull all of your teeth out." She says, grabbing Flounder by the chin and almost inspecting him. "Yeah, you're important to what we plan to do, but you're also expendable. Keep that in mind, Flounder." She added, orbs piercing into her hostage's amber eyes. It was like she was trying to break into his mind, and she was surely succeeding. The idea of a mind reading dragon species sent shivers all over Flounder's body.
"So please, silence yourself next time." The dragoness made it sound like an order instead of a request. Flounder definitely wasn't going to silence himself. "You know, you could literally just killed me right here, right now, and not have to worry about it. I'm... what was that word?" He asked, slightly embarrassed because somebody who looked about his age- maybe younger- knew fancy vocabulary and he didn't. The mystery dragon sighed, but it seemed to be affectionate rather than a yeah, I'm killing you sigh.
"Expendable. It means you aren't required for something, Flounder." She answers. "When we get to where we're going I'm going to have to teach you a lot of things, it seems." Suddenly, the dragoness pauses, wiped all fondness out of her expression, and scowled. "You arrogant cactus, you're supposed to be quiet!" She scolded Flounder for talking.
"Sorry... It's just that, what species are you? And who are we waiting for? Why hasn't Coconut looked for me yet? And just...who are you?" The Beach Dweller gushed, even though the dragoness had warned him not to. She frowned. "Why don't you listen to my instructions?" She shot back, looking genuinely disappointed. Flounder immediately felt bad for pressing her for answers, but he just had to know! She was too mysterious to just dismiss with a flick of a tail! She was too...new? Exciting?
Pretty?
She seemed to have a hint of a smile on her lips as he thought about the word, but soon she smoothed out any emotions on her face like last time and started walking back to the entrance of the cave. "If you really must know who we're waiting for, then I'll tell you." The dragoness said, like she was trying to make something between them even. "We're waiting for King Inferno and his Seven Deadly Sins to arrive... Though they're more like the Seven Annoying Brats." She mused, and started tapping her knuckles on the cave liners again.
Flounder made a horrified noise. Now he knew why the dragoness looked so familiar. "Y-you're a Ground Scorcher! I thought your kind was dead!" She nodded solemnly and hummed. "We aren't. Sorry to get your hopes up." Now all that was left was figuring out why she sounded familiar! Who could be the owner of that voice? It was soft, pretty, very nice to listen to. The dragoness used fancy vocabulary and her way of pronouncing the "Si" in words was defined very strangely...
Oh!
"Aren't you..." Flounder tried to stand up despite his bindings, but fell to the ground as soon as he tried. "Aren't you my little sister's imaginary friend? Rattlesnake?" He asked
Rattlesnake paused at her name
