So I haven't drawn in awhile so I studied a bird to try and get back into the feel of things again. I used basically 1 brush for this entire thing. Hoping I can get back to drawing somewhat regularly again.

Sorry if you get this question a lot! - do you have any tips/good refs for drawing back legs on animals? Thank you for your time
Hi! sorry I took ages to respond to this, I'm always like "I'll respond later when I can dedicate more attention to it" but that time never comes so im doin it now

I usually only draw birds, so trying out some mammals. I really like maned wolves and fruit bats so I figured those might be the best to do lol.
I tried something a bit different here than in the penguin where I tried to sorta, use another chalk brush that was lighter to blend some stuff together and it looks good for parts such as the "mane" part, but less so for the muzzle. It looked like I took the blur tool in photoshop lol
You can donate to my Ko-Fi if you want! :)

Some Emperor Penguins, I think? (I'm not honestly sure if the penguins I was referencing from were Emperor or King penguins) But! I am pretty happy with how these came out! Either way, I love how these guys look irl too, I think the yellow/orange just pops very well.
You can donate to my Ko-Fi if you want! :)

I have a Ko-Fi now!
I am still working on art, I just have a slower uploading pace than a lot of artists. I usually only get one thing out a month, two things if I am lucky, but I figured a Ko-Fi could be mildly beneficial to me! Most, if not all donations go into my savings accounts which is put towards my medical needs and higher education. So if you'd be kind enough to do so, I'd appreciate it. If donations are used for any purpose outside of this, it is likely due to me finding myself in a tight spot financially and having to draw out of my savings. Donate to my ko-fi here

If environmental activists, both soft and hard line, had any courage, they would promote an effort to discourage any tourism to Idaho. This action is insane.
Excerpt from this New York Times story:
The Idaho Senate approved a bill this week that would permit the state to hire contractors to kill up to 90 percent of Idaho’s wolves with the goal, supporters said, of protecting cattle and other agricultural interests.
“These wolves, there’s too many in the state of Idaho,” State Senator Mark Harris, a Republican, said on the Senate floor before the vote on Wednesday, after telling a story about a “gentleman rancher” whose livelihood was jeopardized when a pack of wolves scared off his cattle.
Idaho’s Wolf Conservation and Management plan calls for the state to maintain a wolf population of at least 150 wolves. At last count, Mr. Harris said, 1,556 wolves were roaming the state.
“They’re destroying ranchers; they’re destroying wildlife,” he said.
The bill would give the state’s Wolf Control Fund an additional $190,000 to hire contractors to kill wolves — on top of $400,000 previously allocated toward killing wolves in Idaho. The bill also would remove a limit on the number of wolves a hunter is permitted to kill.
The Senate approved the bill in a 26-7 vote on Wednesday. The measure now goes to the State House of Representatives. The office of Governor Brad Little, a Republican, declined to say whether he planned to sign the bill. Last year Mr. Little signed another bill boosting funds for the killing of wolves.
Backers of the bill said that wolves also reduce the numbers of deer and elk available to hunters, taking an additional economic toll on the state. Some lawmakers disputed that hiring contractors would drive the wolf population down to just 150, while others referenced the 150 figure as if were the goal.

Blue Jay and a Northern Cardinal. Blue Jays belong to the crow family and are omnivorous. They tend to spend time in Ohio during the winter, however, we may see them during the spring and fall as well. They used to live in oak woodlands, however, are mostly seen in parks and wooded suburban areas in modern times. They will rob the nests of other birds. The Northern Cardinal is Ohio’s state bird. For living, they prefer woodlands, brush, and forest edges. They do not migrate.

Damn i don’t know what gained this post so much attention but i’m glad so many of you like it! I’m on a small burnout right now, just got done moving into a new place, but i’m definitely considering making an Ohio bird species series!
Tumblr media
Decided to draw an American Crow today! I might start a series of Ohio bird species, not sure yet though. Crows are actually more abundant in Ohio now than they were pre-settlement due to the clearing of forests, preferring open fields to feed in and trees around to nest. They are found in all 88 Ohio counties, but are found more often in south-eastern Ohio in forested farmland.
