Judo is a form of martial arts and sport that concentrates on throwing and grappling techniques that aim at winning over an opponent, without harming the other. What is the reason Judo is an excellent sport for those with visual impairments? Judo assists visually impaired individuals realize their full potential. Judo is a sport that is safe and accessible. It improves character, confidence and self-control, as well as teaches respect for oneself, other people and the world around. Judo is also a social game, and teaches athletes to interact with their adversaries in a fair and respectful manner. Students who are blind can "read" the movements of their opponents in a game by anticipating the move they will be taking. However, this does not necessarily mean that blind people are inherently at disadvantage in competition against sighted athletes. Indeed, Loturco et al. What Are the Challenges for the athlete with visual impairment?
