Christmas Hot Chocolate
hey there :)
christmas definitely is the time of sweet hot drinks. however, sadly, when drunk in cozy cafes, these drinks are utterly expensive in switzerland (all starbucks addicts can relate). as shannon and i are huge fans of hot chocolate - and always short on money around christmas time - we simply created a new, delicious recipe to make our own christmas hot chocolate at home!
you will be in need of:
250 ml of milk 1/6 of a 100g dark chocolate bar (therefore 15-25g of chocolate, you can alter this amount if you want a more intense chocolate flavour) half a vanilla bean small cinnamon stick some honey (optional)
for the topping:
100ml of cream some cocoa powder (optional) streusel (what a funny word!)
how to proceed:
1. cut the chocolate into small pieces. 2. heat milk in a small pot. whilst the milk heats up, slice open the vanilla bean, scratch out the pulp and add latter as well as the empty vanilla bean to the milk. 3. add chocolate, honey (if you want to) and the cinnamon stick to the mixture. let cook for about 1-2mins. 4. the first part is done! pour the hot chocolate into your favorite christmas mug. now, there's only one thing left to do: the topping. 5. for that, whip the cream (and add some cocoa powder, if you want to) top the hot chocolate with the cream - and don't forget to add some streusel!
wow - only 7 days to go until christmas eve! but with this recipe, you are well prepared to get through the last stressful pre-christmas days.
have a wonderful week, and take care of you!
xoxo

SE BOOK OF SE WEEK
hi everybody!
se book we're recommending you this week is let it snow by john green, maureen johnson and lauren myracle.
this book is about one big christmas story which is divided into three parts. each part was written by one of the above named authors. although all of those writers have a unique writing style, it fits together just perfectly.
let it snow is truly the best book to read at christmas time. you will laugh and feel warm and cozy while reading this story of love, friendship and unexpected events.
happy reading! :)

Christmas Cookies: Mailänderli
hey there :) today is the 3rd of december - only 21 days left until christmas eve! that definitely needs to be celebrated. therefore, in honour of the occasion, we thought of a traditional swiss cookie recipe to sweeten yours and your friend's day.
for about 50 cookies (medium size), you will need:
250g of soft butter 250g of sugar 1 pinch of salt peel of 1 lemon 2 eggs 500g of flour
preparation:
1. stir butter until smooth. mix sugar, salt, lemon peel and eggs in a seperate bowl, then add butter and stir well. you should end up with a light yellow mass. 2. sieve flour and add it to the buttermixture - your cookie dough is finished! 3. wrap your dough into kitchen foil and put it in the fridge for about 1h.
baking:
1. preheat oven to 200°C. roll your dough. it should have a thickness between 7mm and 1 cm. 2. now comes the fun part: cut out the cookies in any shape you like - we chose angels, hearts and stars. 3. before baking the cookies, spread a mixture of 2 egg yolks and 2 teaspoons of milk on them. bake the cookies in the middle of the oven for 9-11 minutes
now, the only thing you have to do is grab your favorite book (go check out our book recommendation next week!), a nice mug of hot tea and these cookies - enjoy!
