BIG NEWS for Authoring Action Teen Authors & Artists - Upcoming Webcast Series will launch soon!!!
We are excited to announce our latest collaboration with HitsWorks! A2 teens are in the beginning stages of creating a community focused, educational Webcast series - ‘Bridging the Abyss'
Through intense weekly training workshops, hands-on experience and strategic planning - Authoring Action teens will create, write, schedule, interview, film, produce, execute AND market the entire webcast series!
This is a remarkable opportunity for our teens to learn 21st Century technology first-hand, digital responsibility/digital citizenship, critical thinking skills, peer planning, team collaboration - ALL put into action to discuss/explore topics that matter to our community the most! We believe that it will produce a powerful impact, create a situation for crucial, urgent conversations that will touch the hearts & minds of those who live, work and play in Winston-Salem.
From learning new technology, to peer collaboration and detailed strategic planning, Authoring Action teens will interview community leaders 1:1, local artists, educators, city officials, fellow students and local game changers across the board…Real world experience with a powerful impact. A chance to use their leadership skills to be a disruptive force, to promote positive, systemic change - from beginning to end, on issues that matter the most to our youth and to the local community.
Don’t miss a thing! Stay tuned! We’ll keep you up-to-date through the training process and announce the official launch date soon!

a Listening...
Details to be revealed soon. For now we will simply say, if you know anything about Jacob Leonard and his ocean trip, you will want to stay tuned for this…
As a Musician member of the Delurk Collective, this is the equivalent of a solo show of his studio recording work, thus “a Listening”, the plan is to schedule two of these listening events after the music is mastered.
Light snacks and simple refreshments will be on hand.
Bring a friend and perhaps a cushion if you’d like to sit on the floor.

Next Stop - Baltimore! We’re headed to the 13th Annual National At-Risk Educators Network Conference to INSPIRE & TRANSFORM!
Tuesday, March 15 - Authoring Action Assegai Ensemble embarks on its 4th annual National At-Risk Educators Network keynote engagement and workshop facilitations in Baltimore, Maryland. Yes!
Awl, but this year, as opposed to the last 3 where we just presented at the Thursday Luncheon - this year we have been asked to close each plenary day with a prescribed theme engagement.
9 Authoring Action Assegai authors will present their NAREN 2016 original writings:
Day 1: Wednesday, 3/16 - What should we (adults trying to help) listen for?
Day 2: Thursday, 3/17 - What does well-being mean to you, the young?
PS…Well-being is the new ‘buzz word’ in our profession, referencing a focus on overall mental, physical and emotional health.
Day 3:  Friday, 3/18 - What inspires you?
That’s 27 pieces written just for this event. Well discussed. Well researched. Well written in the signature voice of each individual Author.
In Addition, I will be conducting my 4th - 3 hour workshop on the Authoring Action Writing & Engagement Process, Thursday 3/17. And our First Inks Discussion (sophist) Workshop on Friday, 3/18.
And we gonna go to Pappas, Oprah’s favorite crab cake restaurant in the whole wide world! Instead of trying to find the crab in the cake you have to search for the cake ‘tween the crab.  Every bite is a mouth full of the sweetest crab meat.
We gonna give you a day-by-day, play-by-play on what’s happening via Sherry Rose, our one and only favorite Marketing Director who is living to go along. (she don’t know she also has to chaperon :)
But most of all, Authoring Action gets another brilliant opportunity to engage over 300 teachers, counselors, principals and administrators from around the nation, on matters that will evolve the state of education. We are determined to return to Winston-Salem with homework that will infuse systemic content for Arts Education and its reiteration in our national educational mandate from STEM to STEAM.
Take the journey with us! Check back this week and see what’s happening!

WORD(S) - by Nathan Ross Freeman on the Coaches’ Blog 2016!
“FOOTPRINT”
I was asked to find a word. An annuperk. A flash card syllabic that would cause all of us to…reach. Maybe glow. Smile a determined grin, at best.
In my pondering I felt the propensity to either find a word muddied in cliché, or cemented in encryption. God forbid an acronym…
Ah Ha! Maybe a pic. That which is worth a thousand words (or better, Instagram hits!) If so…I choose the picture you see.
I took this photo outside a convenient store. A day later asking the man permission to keep it. It was a candid shot, a blessed Serendipitous Moment that allowed me to witness…this.
Unbeknownst.
I mean, who gets to catch…this.  Unbeknownst.
So. I choose this PHOTO to be my WORD for 2016. And I title it, a cliché word I feel the pic makes halo and iconic…“Footprint”.
Oh, to stand on the precipice of eternity at the edge of the universe, come upon our latent earth to find its last remnant…a pic of a man, a dog, a book entwined in calm companionship. LOVE.
Yes, Love…
To find the footprint of humankind to be summed by remnant Love.
Yebo.

“Authoring Action is not only my outlet but my home and family - all in one. Being the youngest author, by at least 2 years, it has taught me to strive harder to reach my goals. Since I’ve been in Authoring Action, I’ve learned to use my authentic voice and to speak up for what’s right…for what I believe in. Authoring Action has taught me to be me. No matter who’s watching. In 2016 - I plan to learn, teach and discover me…to the fullest extent. Authoring Action is where it all starts and for me…this is just the beginning” ~ Jessica Barnes, Authoring Action Teen Author & Artist
