As a guy who's seen this kinds thing happen, it kinda makes me agree with Bo Burnham's take about restricting kids' unsupervised internet access. A lot of stuff online targeted at young boys is not great, and the way most site engagement algorithms work is to send you further into whatever it is you're interacting with.

The modern internet is doing this, and to fix guys its not an "educate yourself and get better" thing, people needed to be shocked out of these radicalization pipelines that being happily created and farmed by people trying to make a quick buck of edgelord boys who go from a few dark jokes to real nasty shit faster than most people realize.

Like I'm not saying the entire male population are blameless victims of the algorithms, but it's worth watching your guy friends and calling out when they say or do distasteful things, and even if you can't be friends anymore, pull them out of that hole they're falling down, or at least shine the light to show them they're falling.

gen z has to reckon with its radicalization problem. you are not a morally pure and superior generation of youth come to save the world, your men and boys are radicalized at an unprecedented level and you ignore it because it’s too hard to address but you have to. these boys are in your classes, they date your friends, you know them and you cannot continue to pretend this is an “old white guy” problem
