Why do ppl post spoilers immediately after something drops without any warning. Literally just got a season finale ending spoiled for me. No warning. Where is common courtesy? Like at least wait a day! It's so upsetting 😭 It wasn't on this app, but like I feel this should be a general rule of thumb across ALL platforms! Put spoiler warnings! Don't post spoilers the day something drops! Ahhhh 😤

Thanks for the rec, I'll definitely check that one out!! To answer your question tho, basically, something that could fit into the rest of the show without changing the outcome of it. Something that captures the spicy antagonism of it all... so to speak. I don't need something with a happy or conclusive ending with them in a committed relationship. But I wouldn't be opposed to a fic that sort of shows their evolving relationship over the course of the show. Actually, that'd be like the ideal fic for me or at least something like it. I've never been big on fics that really diverge heavily from canon because at a certain point many of them, to me at least, start to feel OOC. Which kind of takes me out of it a bit? So, if the characters still feel true to themselves I wouldn't be fully opposed to an AU or canon diverging fic, I'd probably still read it if I'm being honest. I'd be open to a fic that builds off what is in the comics or Angel, but I do feel like some of those would be missing the spicy antagonism I mentioned earlier. I would definitely read them tho when I'm in the mood for something a little more fluffy romantic Spuffy and not "let's fight and make out until this house collapses" Spuffy.

Listen, Doctor Odyssey does a lot of stuff that pushes the envelope for representation, so I will make it clear that I don’t think they’re doing this on purpose (because some things I do think they’re doing on purpose) but actually, I think it’s so interesting to consider Ray as a clue to the audience that Max is also autistic. 

I’ve talked about my autistic Max headcanon a bit before. He’s obviously very driven and focussed about things he’s passionate about, like medicine (a special interest, one might even call it) and because his career in medicine has allowed him to rise to a certain social standing, from the outside, you could easily mistake him as being very comfortable socially, but when you actually watch him, you see that it’s the opposite. Max has gotten by his whole life masking. And you can see where that mask starts to chafe when he deals with Tristan and Avery, who want things from him that go against all the societal norms he taught himself so religiously to uphold, regardless of what he might actually want. 

You can see it right now in the way he’s fumbling to handle Avery‘s pregnancy the way she wants him to. He has the script as a doctor that he uses with pregnant people, and you see it trip him up time and time again that it’s what he’s falling back on when that’s not what Avery wants or needs from him. And you can see how much that frustrates him when she calls him out and he realizes that he’s messing up.

Then you see it in the way he interacts with Brooke. I feel like when you’re really looking for it, it’s so obvious that he’s struggling to separate chemistry that is about a shared interest from sexual chemistry. Not to say that he and Brooke don’t have sexual chemistry, but just that he’s clicking with her so well as one surgeon to another, and that kind of shared energy is intense and hard to separate from a romantic advance, especially if you’re the kind of person who maybe deep down doesn’t fully mesh with the whole idea of monogamy.

So you have this moment where Tristan says about Ray point blank “I didn’t realize” and that’s the confirmation for us as viewers that this show respects the diversity of its characters and doesn’t need you to clock a character as autistic right away for them to still be autistic.

Anyway, this might not be coherent because it’s late at night, but that’s my two cents. In a perfect world if I were in the writers’ room, Max would absolutely be autistic, and the process of unmasking and exploring his sexuality and entering into a polyamorous relationship would all be going hand in hand in hand.

I need more hetero ships where the guy doesn’t like the woman at first—including her appearance—and it’s not the usual ‘ugh, she’s so hot, why does she have to be such a bitch?’ situation. I mean genuine initial rejection. But over time, as he gets to know her and starts to admire her personality, he slowly begins to see her as beautiful too.

Because for me, that’s what real love is—based not on physical attraction, but on being drawn to the soul inside. And when you love that person’s soul, their body starts to look beautiful too. Because beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

So far, though, I can only think of one couple like that: Jaime and Brienne.

And when I say "hetero couples", it doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to see that dynamic in queer ships too. But I feel like this idea is so deeply ingrained in most straight ships, and in how the majority of people expect them to be portrayed—that a man should ALWAYS be physically and sexually attracted to a woman first and foremost. It’s acceptable if he can’t stand her personality, but the desire has to be there from the very first minute they meet.

Currently Reading: Written in Bone by Sue Black

I love bones. They're just such a fascinating structure they continuously grow and live within us and when we die they'll be all that's left of us for years and years after unless something destroys them. And we mark them up as we live. They carry our story with them after we're gone. And I love them!

This book is absolutely a terror and an ode to bones and what they do for us in all things. And it makes me long for my osteology class I took in my undergrad. Wish I could do it again!

CW: Don't read if you're particularly squeamish, as it does deal in real cases Sue Black was called upon to work on, and there are some graphic descriptions of bodies as they're found and as they're decomposing.

Quick reminder as we head into Trump’s first week in office. We are about to see an onslaught of executive actions designed to strip of us our rights. We’ve seen this before.

Many of them won’t be legal, many of them won’t take effect immediately, and some of them will be just plain nonsense. Trump alone can’t change the law (yet anyway- that’s Congress) and there is an official government process for enacting most executive actions that works slowly.*

There will be time to fight against these orders—either by stopping them entirely, weakening them, or at least slowing them down.

The purpose of doing so many terrible things at once is to scare us. Is to intimidate us to cede more ground than we need to. Don’t let them.

Stay engaged, stay angry, stay hopeful (or spiteful- me tbh), and—most importantly—stay strategic. Find an organization you trust, follow them, and take action when they ask you to.

(Side note- pick just a few issues to care deeply about and only follow a few organizations you trust. Don’t try to solve everything all the time or consume every piece of news. You WILL burn yourself out and that’s not helpful for anyone. Trust me, speaking from experience. Staying 15% engaged is better than 120% for three months and then 0%).

What we’re seeing right now is a backlash to decades of progress—a dying (and by extension dangerous I’m not gonna lie) breath of those in power desperate to maintain control. They wouldn’t be trying to squash us if there wasn’t something to squash.

TL;DR- there’s gonna be a lot of bad stuff in the news today. Don’t give into panic. There will be time to fight most of it. Stay engaged.
