Welcome to Whumptober 2021! May the Whump be with you :)

To all of you who participated last year - we have changed a few of the rules, but overall things have stayed the same. To everyone new: WELCOME!

Merlin Hurt/Comfort Fest 2021!

The life of a fandom favourite can be tough. When you’re not running around after the prince, you’re busy doing chores for Gaius or fulfilling your destiny. You have to fight off griffins, witches, and bandits; you get punched, poisoned, and pelted with fruit; and all the while you have to hide who you truly are because if anyone finds out Uther will have you executed…and that’s just in canon!

Fortunately, however, there are some compensations—such as when a certain person (or persons) take it upon themselves to bathe your battered body and tenderly treat your wounds…

Which is why, this February, we’ve decided to give our favourite BBC Merlin characters a little bit of well-deserved TLC. In other words, we’re devoting an entire month to that most beloved of fandom tropes: HURT/COMFORT!

A team member who dealt with a hospital admission and discharge (or escape) all by themselves. The first their team knows of it is later that night, when the team leader accidentally comes across the paperwork. The team leader’s hands go very still. They’d talked about this before; they were a team and left no man behind. Why did this keep happening? Was it a lack of trust? He turns on the injured team member - why didn’t he call one of them? Had their previous discussions not sunk in at all?

And the injured team member is standing silent, knuckles white, breathing hard, partly because he hasn’t internalized the idea that people would drop everything to be there for him, but mostly because what he wants from his team in that moment is not worried anger but the understanding that he’s a hair’s breadth from falling apart.

IT’S BACK

Announcing Jaskier Whump week!

This is a week open to all kinds of ships, au’s, and prompts that deal with hurting our dear bard, Jaskier.

It’s finally back! After much contemplation, I’ve decided to open this up again! I’m so excited!!

This will take place on from December 27 - January 2. 

Rules:

This story must center around Jaskier being Whumped or emotionally hurt.

THIS IS OPEN TO ALL FORMS OF MEDIA. 

Ex: Written stories, art, edits, or videos

Ships of all kinds are welcome here! And don’t feel pressured to write a slash fic, gen fics are welcome too!

There are no word limits, so, write to your hearts content.

You are allowed to use all media that Jaskier is mentioned in ( The book series, the games, the Polish show, and the Netflix show).

It doesn’t have to be in Jasker’s POV, it can be in anyone’s, but he must be the ‘main focus.’ He must be the one getting Whumped.

You can follow one of two prompts for that week day.

One will be for ship fics, but you don’t have to do it, it’s just here to make it a little easier.

Ok, So a little addition to this: since it’s the holidays, I though it would be fun to add another category. There will be the regular WHUMP prompts but there will also be a special category of flcs based on holiday music! YAY!

I’ve also added an additional “sentence starters’ but they’re optional, don’t feel obligated to do it!

One will be for general or solo fics.

The prompt are open to interpretation.

Sooo, it’s finally time! Now, the little picture thingy above might look confusing at first, but don’t worry, I’ll explain all the prompts right here.

 Also, since there were people who wanted the prompts to be shown early, but also people who wanted them to be a surprise, I decided to compromise - I will add a little something to each prompt when the time comes :D It will be something similar to what I’m going to add to the alternate prompts, which will hopefully be posted later today. 😅

Whump advent calendar

So, before I post the actual list, here’s some basic info and a few more things I’d like to know your opinion on

So, a few people suggested this and I thought it was a good idea - there won’t be a prompt for every single day, but one event for every three days. I wanted this to be like an advent calendar (now that I think about it, are these a thing in your country? 😅), so there won’t be any prompts after december 24th. It makes the event a little shorter, but honestly with Christmas coming up, I feel like most people will be pretty busy, so 8 prompts should be just enough to fill the time, but also not too not too many. 

(also I tried to pick them so everyone could grasp them in their own way, i know there are folks who are more into the hurt and folks who are more into the comfort, so i tried to pick some that could be used in either way while still keeping them somehow connected)

When it comes to the content, every medium is wecome - writing, drawing, gifs, edits, animations… Anything you want to do 😊

But the most important thing I’d like to ask now - I got the prompts ready, but. Usually advent calendars are supposed to have chocolates or little surprises for every day, and you get to know what’s inside that day, unless you’re like my little brother and rip the whole thing open the first day you get it. So what I’d like to ask is if you think it’d be better to show each prompt the day it starts, a day before that, or to show all 8 of them on the 1st of december or maybe even earlier. Personally I think it’d be best to show all of them early, because most events do that and some people like to work on their stuff before the event even starts.. 

Alright, that’s gonna be everything for now (I’m pretty sure I forgot a ton of important stuff, but hey, I can always make more posts 😂) so stay safe and lemme know what you think, I’m looking forward to hearing from you 🤗

Whumptober Wrap Up: Share the Pain

Whumptober has been over for a few days now and while we’re still tying up loose ends, we’re also already elbow deep into planning and brainstorming for next year’s event.

In the midst of this chaos @memoriesofthealhambra came into our inbox and suggested a follow up event focusing on appreciating all your amazing work. While October is an active and exhausting month of creation, November could be the soothing comfort of appreciation afterwards.

We think this is a great idea and we want to do a soft launch of the “Whumptober Wrap Up: Share the Pain” this year and also come up with a more in-depth and fun plan for next year. (There will be badges, definitely badges and other stuff…hell yeah!).

For now, we challenge everyone to take a hot beverage, a snuggly blanket and to dive deep into the Whumptober2020 tag and appreciate all the work you and everyone else put into this.

Welcome to the Ten Trails Whump Challenge!

(And yes, ‘Ten Trails’ is absolutely a pun on ‘entrails’ lol)

This challenge is made up of ten themes, called ‘trails.’ Each trail includes ten prompts related to their theme, spread out through the month of October. Prompts on the same trail are never on consecutive days; there is always at least one day in between prompts, often more. You can use these ‘off days’ to rest your creative muscles or to do a prompt from a different trail, whichever you please!

The goal is to complete at least one trail OR ten prompts in total! Trails, prompts, and dates are as follows!

Trail 1: Guts Galore

Trail 1 is all about that sweet blood and gore! You can really put your whumpees through the wringer with this trail!

October 2nd - bleeding out // October 7th - dissection/amputation // October 11th - impaled // October 13th - electrocuted // October 16th - shattered skull/spine // October 19th - crushed // October 21st - stabbed/shot // October 26th - flayed // October 29th - set on fire // October 31st - organ failure

Trail 7 is for those who love to see a whumpee in the aftermath. The trials and tribulations of the healing process awaits!

Trail 10 has lots of tricks and treats, but none that a whumpee would enjoy! Who needs candy when you’ve got prompts like this?
