One thing I am absolutely a sucker for is a whumpee caught between two (or more) possessive whumpers. That constant state of damned if you, damned if you don't. Getting punished by whumper 1 and knowing the whole time that they'll have to pay for it again for "letting" someone damage whumper 2's property. Whumpee knowing there's a battle raging for their being and they don't even have a hat in the ring.

A character looks at another who is clearly not doing well- at the extremis of exhaustion, in emotional tatters, minorly but miserably ill, waterlogged, pervadingly chilled, looking like they've been dragged backwards through a hedge or several- and just opens their arms and says to them "Come here-" which is all the invitation the woebegone character needs to fall into their companion's arms to be wrapped in their embrace.

Power displays yay

Telling whumpee to strip (don't need to be sexual. or even completely tbh. "Take of your shirt so I can whip you" good stuff)

Making whumpee kneel

Making them apologize very loud, again and again and again until you're satisfied and leave them trembling in their spot, from both fear and humiliation

Choosing whumpee's clothes

Invading their personal space (esp in public!) and making clear that if they make a fuss they'll be punished

Force whumpee to hurt themselves as a punishment

Force-handfeed them when they are unwilling

thinking about a character getting manhandled and pinned down as their furious shouts to stop turn to desperate pleas turn to wordless sobs <3

whumpee is explaining to caretaker how they're at peace, everything that happened them was for the best, because they’re stronger now, they’re smarter, etc etc. caretaker is listening skeptically until whumpee breaks down into gut-wrenching sobs and they realize whumpee was mostly trying to convince themselves

Whumper grabbed Whumpee by the roots of the hair and wrenched their head back so they could speak in their ear, while their other hand ran down Whumpee's torso.

“You have no idea what it means for me to have my hands on you. Not really. Would you like to find out?”

Today’s edition in read a post and got things mixed up when I read it:

“You had a head injury,” Caretaker argued, fluffing the pillow under their neck. “You will sit there and be babied, and you will like it.”

thinking about a whumpee on a forced march through rough terrain

hands tied in front of them, on foot while their captors are mounted, sleeping out in the open, forced to beg for adequate food and water

maybe they're barefoot, a captured royal in silken robes

maybe they're in a torn suit or soldier's uniform

maybe they were stripped at the start, increasing the exposure to the elements, the humiliation

are they a terrified mess from the beginning, or do they try to endure with dignity? how long before they're stumbling, barely putting one foot in front of the other? how long before they fall?

Requiring whumpee to cooperate

(some of my favorite most awful tropes)

Content: whipping, punishment, noncon nudity, humiliation

Forcing them to put themselves in vulnerable positions--"lay on the table."

"You remember the punishment room? You get one more chance."

"open your palms." (Whumpee is lying on a table with their hands tied behind their back.) "Or else this whipping will break your fingers. It's up to you, really."

"I want you to count. Say 'thank you sir' after each one."

"Kneel." (Does whumpee thump to the ground immediately, desperately, do they slowly, begrudgingly do it with a glare, and get a slap for it?)

Forcing whumpee to ask to be punished

"Strip." Whumper orders. Whumpee stares at whumper's demand. "I said strip. Or I'll do it. And I won't be delicate."

"That's fifteen lashes. Turn around and face the wall."

Any favorite gag-related scenarios? I personally love the used as bait trope with it haha, but I'm curious of any other scenarios where a gag is involved!

omg yes, used as bait is SO good, when they're trying to warn their rescuers but they're gagged and by the time they can speak it's too late...

some others that I love:

just like. whumper gagging whumpee not for silence, just for the vibe. the psychological element and whatnot

muffled screams/sobs/whimpers behind a gag

I think I've mentioned this before (in the four-ish days I've been here haha) but I love when a gag is simultaneously used as a restraint. tied around whumpee's face and to a chain or pole or something

stealing this from you but HIDDEN GAGS, especially in public. "oh they're just shy" whumper says while their captive couldn't speak even if they wanted to

and just the process of gagging. grabbing their hair while it's forced in. whumpee writhing, trying to stop it from happening

I can't think of more off the top of my head right now but I'm sure there's more. I just love gags in whump so much, favorite trope of all time
