I never understood why show-makers would not understand why people were shipping characters when they literally made them (for jokes) acting like a couple or be misunderstood as one. Even when if it for dramatic irony, what is happening in the show is cannon in the show no matter if it is for a joke or not.

It's not a misunderstanding if the characters actually act like that.

The fact that in the credits where they show the mock newspaper you can see the Yelena's guinea pig and not Bob both confirms:

A. Yelena not only kept the guinea pig AND showed it to the public

B. Yelena's guinea pig is more known/popular then Bob
