How to pierce your American Girl doll’s ears
Tumblr media
At-home ear piercing is one of the many doll modifications that American Girl would like you to think can only be done by them. Just like repairing hair, tightening limbs, removing stains, and nearly any other fix or change; they would rather have your money than let you figure it out for yourself.
So you take your doll the American Girl Place store. They take your $16 and with a specialized tool, drill holes in your doll’s earlobes. But… surprise! That tool has made the holes so large that the doll can ONLY wear American Girl brand 12 gauge earrings. Here’s Ofelia, who came to me secondhand with her ears already professionally pierced:
Tumblr media
I adore her regardless, but these are impractical. If she wants to wear anything but the silver stars she came with, I’d have to go out and spend $10 to get her some.
I believe you’ll get much better results if you do it yourself, because not only is it completely free, but your doll can wear the same earrings that a person can (although they cannot wear AG brand earrings).
I’ll be demonstrating the method by piercing Cécile’s ears. In her book illustrations, she is portrayed wearing lovely dangly earrings.

Okay, dollblr, I need your help
My friend's doll collection was stolen on May 19th by his shitty landlord. Charges have been filed, but the landlord and the moving company he used to transport the dolls and other stolen property have been uncooperative in giving the information needed to trace and recover the dolls.
I'm asking that this post be shared as far and wide as possible so he has some hope of getting his most beloved and distinctive dolls back.
If anyone sees a massive dump of Ringdolls and Dollfie Dreams on Mercari, eBay, or Facebook, especially in/around/from the Louisville, KY area, please contact me so I can let him know.
I will update as we assess the full extent of the loss, but the dolls we're asking people to keep an eye out for at the moment are
Ringdoll K fullset edition with attached hair, NS. No outfit. Distinctive features: One magnet fell out and was put back in back upside down, so his headcap doesn't stay closed.
DIM Minimee Ruki head, NS. Distinctive features: Vampire mod.
Custom House Mina (both Saint Mina and LE Sad Mina), NS
Ringdoll Quiz, GS, fullset
Bobobie Pixie. Distinctive features: sky blue skin that yellowed to a minty color. Probably wearing green pajamas with brown airplanes made by me.
ResinSoul Yao, WS. His first doll, probably yellowed a fair bit by now. Distinctive features: a small chip on one of her horns.
DIM Minimee heads of all Gazette and Dir En Grey members. If these turn up as a lot, contact us, it's probably them.
Soom Dain
Soom Dawn
2 60cm Sweetdolls, NS
HZ WangYe head
This ResinSoul Dai and 1st gen Bobobie Apollo, probably still in these outfits
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Any dolls that appear in a large group with these should be reported.
I will update tomorrow with more specifics on the missing Ringdolls and DD/DD mods when we've had a chance to sit down and assess the extent of the theft.
@okamikodomo @fullyfunctionalminiaturebeehive @buffdolls @laptopcoffee @lupusdarkmoon @lordhigheverythingelse @nyxypixie @freakstylebjd @literally anyone and everyone we've ever met in this community
Thank y'all in advance for any help, he's gutted over this and I am on his behalf. Still in shock that there are people this vile in the world.

I know it's been a moment since I've posted anything, but I wanted to wait to show off last month's outfit and this one together, since they somewhat share a theme/inspiration.
Jason and Lee Turnley are die-hard theatre kids, but while Jason is most at home on stage, Lee is a stagecrew girl all the way, and I wanted to make both of them a theatre outfit that wasn't just another costume for Jason (who will be getting plenty and already has his Robin Hood one).
So, with that, I made him a rehearsal/practice outfit for his stage combat classes he's just starting to take: black pants, purple t-shirt, red-and-blue kneepads and fingerless gloves (hat is from his meet outfit, the sword is a hair accessory purchased at a Ren Faire for this exact purpose. As for the bonus pic with Umbreon, I made the gloves first because I was making up the pattern myself and wanted to give myself time to try, fail, and try again, and when I put them on with his meet outfit, I just got pokemon trainer vibes and couldn't resist, since umbreon was about the right scale.
Lee, meanwhile, had to get a set of crew blacks—black pants and long-sleeve shirt, and I decided to make her fingerless gloves a part of the sleeve, rather than the separate pieces I'd initially thought. I also wanted to crochet her a black beanie, and that took the most stop-restart tires, since I was modifying the pattern as I went due to using a different yarn and hook size than the original. Fortunately, it (just) fits under her head set (from the Our generation Film BTS outfit, along with her handy waist-apron with all her backstage tools!
Wether onstage or backstage, there's no doubt the Turnleys are best at home in the theatre, and now their ready to take the (back/)stage!

I just realised how FUNNY it would be to be Cornelia Parkington's friend and not see her for like 3 years. You see her and are like "wow it's so nice to see you! I heard you got married to that nice man, Gardner was it?" And she's like "yeah! He's a a wonderful man."
"Do you have any children yet?"
"Yes :) five."
That'd be so hilariously confusing. What do you MEAN 5. You got married 2 years ago.

Important Announcement:
April Fools Day (April 1) is one week away. To that end, I just want it known now, well before the day, that this blog will NOT be posting any jump scares, fake announcements, freak-out posts, fake hackings, fake emergencies, fake news, and “gotcha!” stuff on April Fools Day. We’re staying safe and chill around here.
I’m honestly not into April Fools Day, really, unless the jokes are obvious and silly–like Rickrolls and Dad Jokes. Rickrolls and Dad Jokes are just traditional.

Here’s Nanea showing off my latest outfit for her: a pair of shorts and a cute, reversible top! A bit summery for the current weather where we are, but it’s just too cute!

So, I didn’t make an official ‘doll craft resolution list’ this year (at least, publicly) but I do intend to round out all my collections for my dolls who don’t yet have 6 outfits—which is to say, mostly Jason and Lee, my two new ones, but also the few dolls who are short 1 outfit (or have ones I wish to update/replace), so this month, I rounded out two of them:
First off, Holly—I did have an outfit I deemed her ‘meet outfit’ originally, most to have something to take pictures of her in when I was first writing her books, but even then, I didn’t like it. They were found pieces that I hadn’t picked out myself and looked to frumpy for her, honestly. Then, I got a gift card to Target so let myself look at the OG outfits to see if I could find something cuter, and boy did I!
Tumblr media
The Our generation All A-Flutter outfit just works so well for Holly—I’m so happy with it!
But the big craft of this month was making a 6th outfit for Kirsten, to giver her come winter gear—
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’d been saving the blue fabric from a pair of thrifted pillowcases to make something just for her, and the checkered fabric my mom gave me reminded me of the winter gear from her sixth book, so I mocked up a pattern for a sweater, scarf, and pair of mittens, and adapted a hat pattern I already have, as well as making her a heavier set of drawers and petticoat than her summer weight set I made her a few years back. (The dress is made from a combination of her school dress and nightgown patterns, just to get a bit of variety in her collections, since her meet dress and school dress are constructed nearly identically.)
I’m so happy with how both of these girls look in their new duds!

It had been another successful delivery assisted by the midwife and her apprentice, Lyra.
Tumblr media
The baby was a girl, and a beautiful one, with big brown eyes and soft curls.
While the new mother, Miss Thistledown Rosebees, had a warm bath and then sat by the fire with a bowl of soup in her hands, Lyra was given the task of rocking and soothing the baby to sleep. She wrapped the little girl in a warm wool blanket made from soft woven moss, and set her to down in the wooden cradle.
Tumblr media
The winter winds were blowing outside the small cottage. Snow had fallen the night before, but the sun was out and shining through the windows, warming the room pleasantly.
“What will you name the baby?” Lyra asked Thistledown, rocking the cradle with her hand.
“I haven’t chosen a name yet,” said Thistledown. “I .”
“It’s best to name the baby as soon as possible,” said the midwife. “That will protect it from curses, charms, and–”
Thistledown’s face changed. She stood up suddenly from her chair, looking over at the cradle. “No!” she shouted.
Lyra looked too.
The cradle was empty.
Tumblr media
All Lyra could do was stare. She had set the baby down only moments ago, and the child had been fast asleep immediately. Surely she hadn’t climbed out of the cradle in that short time!
But the midwife didn’t blame Lyra, or even ask her what had happened. Instead, she turned to the new mother, a question in her gaze.
Thistledown looked confused for a moment, before she sighed and sat down again, her head in her hands. “I know what’s happened. Oh, I know for sure. It’s my fault. I had hoped this day would never come!”
“Tell us,” said the midwife. “But I think I know the answer to the mystery of why an unnamed child has been quickly and magically spirited away.”
“When I was a very young girl,” said Thistledown, “I found a pile of gold coins, geodes, and gemstones hidden inside a hollow log. I tried to stuff a handful into my apron pocket and run away, but a diamond knife had pinned down my skirt, because that was more than just an ordinary log. It was the tunnel into the Underground Hall of the Gnome Realm. Gnora the Gnome Queen found me there, pinned to the earth, and refused to release me with the treasures in hand. Unless I promised something in return.”
“Your firstborn child?” the midwife asked. Lyra thought she didn’t sound surprised at all.
“Exactly that. And I was so young, of course I immediately agreed. But I reasoned with myself that I didn’t have a child at the time, so I might as well have promised nothing at all. I had hoped the promise was forgotten. Or at the very least, I thought I could easily defend my child from being stolen by a creature as small as a gnome. And the worst part of all was that the jewels I had put in my pocket were false. They had turned into snail shells by the time I arrived home. So I couldn’t even trade the jewels again, in exchange for my baby.”
Now it was the midwife who gave a heavy sigh. She turned to look at her apprentice, and Lyra knew right then what she was about to be asked to do.
“You have a gift, Lyra,“ the midwife said. “You always find a way to get what you want from anyone.”
Tumblr media
As she followed the stream that flowed into the underground kingdom of the gnomes, Lyra thought hard about what the midwife had said. Did she really have that gift? Maybe she truly did. After all, in the span of less than a year, she had dealt with fairies, trolls, and talking animals, and had yet to be outsmarted by any of them.
Surely, negotiating the rescue of a human child from a gnome queen would be possible. Wouldn’t it?

Exciting Josefina Treasure Hunt
Tumblr media
I bought the most amazing lot from goodwill last week. This trunk was the feature piece, and opening it was so fun because the pictures were a particular brand of AWFUL so there were a lot of surprises inside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lot of food stuffs from both the Christmas and Winter collections. This silver tray I thought at first was just a random extra, but luckily there were a few of the cookies which gave me a clue to look at the Bizcochitos set, and sure enough, the tray is part of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of the random clothing items. There was a second lot from the same goodwill that had more clothes (including more of some of these outfits) but it went for a bundle too so I didn't also get it. The black socks from Josefina's Winter set are like legit wool (feeling?) and heavy.
Tumblr media
This turtle that goes on eBay for like 70 bucks someone please explain THAT one to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These!! The box for the farm was just visible in the listing, but only the outside so I had no idea if there was anything in there, and the desk wasn't even in any of the photos! And they are both complete, the desk has her entire school lesson even the quill.
Tumblr media
The sheet music from her piano!!! I couldn't believe it.
Tumblr media
On the right in this photo, is the door from the oven and a tiny piece of fluff. Which luckily had a PC tag on the back so I didn't toss it immediately. Because when I looked up to make sure this was the door from the oven, the little fluff was in the photo too! And I remembered the story of putting the wool on the paddle to check if the oven was ready. I had no idea they actually sold it. And how it hasn't gotten lost.
Do you think the person who owned this owned a complete set of Josefina's things?? There is almost something from everything, (except the furniture, but evidence for the piano at least). Anyway, what a fun treasure box to open!
I will definitely be selling the farm and desk, as I already own those (baby!Caroline made at least a few smart choices about what she wanted). I haven't really decided on anything else yet. Let me know if you're super interested in something.

Judith as a Viking girl, daydreaming about her next adventure….. The beads on her apron are my favorite part of her outfit. I used some tiny human skull beads and metal beads for the lower string, and some fancy glass beads for the upper string. There are three amber-colored beads that remind are meant to represent Baltic Sea amber.
