Siem Reap, Cambodia, 2010 🇰🇭Fluorescent Buddha statuettes are displayed in a craft shop on the outskirts of Siem Reap, near the Angkor Wat temple complex. Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon, Myanmar, 2007 🇲🇲. The golden stupa of the Shwedagon Pagoda appears in reflection within some of the detailed metalwork around the perimeter of the temple. At night the temple is lit with powerful floodlights and the golden colors shine like a beacon. In the daytime, the golden color looks brilliant against blue sky. When I visited this and other temples, I learned of a Buddhist proverb: “ Best to put gold on Buddha‘s back.” Very roughly translated, this means that one should be kind, generous, and loving without wanting reward or attention. Imagine our world if everyone practiced this tenet. Imagine the golden potential that we have in ourselves …. Imagine all the gold thats out there.
