Is a strange mix of confident and flirty, shy and flustered.

You can’t tell me otherwise about the latter part. It is established that he has a shy side in Jean’s story quest.

He’ll start off all “Hey beautiful, you free tonight?” But if you flirt back his face will turn red. This only works after a while of being together because at the start, he’ll try to hide it.

Speaking of hiding things, he does hide a lot from you at the start.

He’ll reveal it all to you bit by bit, carefully. He doesn’t want to risk you leaving him. So he leaves little hints here and there that there is more to the story, hoping you’ll think about it and then pursue those clues.

And when you do, he plays around a little bit more, seemingly to tease you and adding mystery to the whole mix, but really, he’s just hesitating. Is this what he really wants? Does he want to reveal his vulnerability to you?

In the end, of course, he does. He sits you down and talks seriously.

I say “seriously”, but it’s more of him struggling to reveal the truth to you and you coaxing him out, yet not pushing him.

This process will have to be repeated several times. It’s almost as if each time, he’s testing the waters, afraid that it’ll cook him alive in a split second. So these pieces of information seem to have absolutely no connection to each other, because he’s afraid that if you piece it all together you won’t like what you see and leave him.

But your waters are cool and calm, still and serene. They gleam in the warm sunlight, and as he slips in to bathe, he quickly finds that you are indeed safe.

He’s not used to revealing his true self in such a safe space, though it sounds weird. The last time he did that was with Diluc, and we all know how that turned out. (Diluc crossed blades with him.)

But now, you’re here with him, your warm, welcoming presence akin to that of a loving mother’s, and he breaks down in your arms. He tells you everything, all that he’s said previously, piecing it together and forming a full story.

He’s overjoyed when you respond positively, and he swears in that instant that he’s fallen in love with you all over again.

Actually doesn’t start out very physically affectionate.

He flirts a lot and might seem like the type to get very touchy, but he isn’t. You think at first, “Is this guy all talk?”

The truth is, he’s just not very comfortable with you in a romantic context yet. You are very likely to have been friends before your relationship was established since this allows Kaeya to build trust up, and you have indeed hugged each other and held hands before, and he flirts with you way too much, but he’s?? Literally too fucking shy to kiss?

Probably escapes to the bathroom to twiddle his thumbs and hype himself up. Then he comes out, looks at you, and loses his nerve.

It’s probably a couple weeks when he finally works up the courage to kiss you

His lips are gentle and perhaps even shy, so you’ll have to chase him a little. (But honestly this is a good sign; it means he doesn’t pretend to be confident around you.)

But oh when he gets worked up, he gains true confidence.

His hands are all over you, on your cheek, tangled in your hair, caressing your hips. He’s in heaven, and it’s clear from his touch.

At night he sleeps, you in his arms, his nose buried in your hair, thinking This is normal for him. His eyes widen. This is normal for him. Your being in his life has become so routine. He hasn’t realized just how much happier he’s been with you until now. You mean so much to him that despite his language ability, he would never be able to express the magnitude of his feelings for you. He props himself up on his elbow, elevating his upper half so he can see you better. The moonlight casts shadows on your face, the side of your nose, your cheeks, under your eyelashes. He reaches out to touch your face, for it’s so beautiful, but he stops. You seem so far away in that instant. He’s not worthy of touching you. No, he’s not worthy of you. “Kaeya, shut up and stop thinking that way. It’s completely wrong to deny someone of basic needs, especially if that someone is yourself.” Words once uttered by you echo in his head, and as he refocuses on his surroundings, his hand is still in midair. You’ve taught me how to love myself, Y/N. He reaches out once again, the back of his hand slowly caressing your cheek. You do not stir. And with all this you’ve taught me, I can love you deeply too. He resolves, tomorrow, to show you what's underneath his eyepatch.
