Couldn’t have done it without the encouragements of one of my dearest friends, who has literally pestered me until I gave in.

Firsts...

It was the first time they held hands that wasn't born out of need to solve a magical problem or eliminate a simulated Burned One or some other danger Rosalind had put them in for the sake of learning.

The first time the princess had plainly asked Farah for something after they'd become something other than just rivals, not best friends, definitely not girlfriends, but a secret thing lingering between labels and invisible lines they'd both set. 

The first time Luna admitted she needed Farah's help due to her supposedly shaky hands, and Farah didn't have the heart to refuse her despite the neat blue winged liner above Luna's eyelashes proving the capability of those same unsteady hands.

The first time she sat a breath away from the crown princess herself, with their bare knees touching and Luna's perfume filling the gap between them, and took Luna's hand, letting herself feel the softness and warmth of Luna's fingers against her own.

The first time Farah was acutely aware of their differences – chipped nails and bitten cuticles, blisters, scars and bruised knuckles in contrast to manicured nails and soft palms that smelled like vanilla and orange blossom hand cream a vivid reminder of who they would always be and not be – and for some reason the idea was terrifying.

The first time Luna smiled at her with something tender fluttering on her pale face and Farah couldn't help but let herself observe Luna's unique features, the sharp line of her jaw, pink lips shimmery with cherry lip gloss curved into a genuine smile, high cheekbones, supple skin slightly flushed, and her pale blue eyes softening with unusual fondness.

It was the first time her heart skipped a beat for the princess herself, and Farah knew she was in trouble.

“I found the golden egg.” Stella is excited, almost dancing and Farah finds she can’t help but smile. She’s always teased Luna about the girl being their golden child, the good girl, she’s always been aware that she was lucky. Lucky to have Luna, Lucky to have had Stella, lucky to still be alive. Luna had been a shy omega, once, defeated by the weight of choosing her Alpha, now, as they watch Stella celebrate finding the one egg hidden in the gardens. It had been hard for Farah, she knew she had to trust Stella would find the egg, but she had worried that perhaps, just perhaps, this time the egg would prove too hard to find. Stella, of course, had her mother’s strength of mind, focused in a way that often reminded Farah of Luna.

Farah has barely had Bloom, her oldest daughter, back in her life for any time at all when the weight of how much they'd missed out on in the sixteen years they'd unwillingly spent apart truly sinks in. It happens shortly after the Winx suite girls had returned from the First World and their visit to her little girl's adoptive parents. They'd come back earlier than expected, a look on her daughter's face that told Farah there were more emotions than Bloom might ever have words for brewing in her. All she'd been able to do when she saw that was pull her older daughter into her arms and hold her like she never wanted to let her go again. If she had her way, after all, she never would. And she'd hated every single second her daughter was gone more than she could say, even as she'd known how important the trip had been for Bloom's sake. Even with Rosalind dead and promises Bloom would be back in a few short days, Farah hadn't quite been able to quell her fear that her older daughter would go missing again. The worry hadn't left her until the moment Bloom was standing in front of her again, that bright grin Farah already knows so well and loves so much plastered across her face. With the school under reconstruction and an unofficial break declared, she and Saul had tentatively extended an offer to Bloom to stay with them for a few days, hopeful she would take it. Still, they had been certain to reassure that her she didn't have to if she didn't feel ready and that they would be there whenever she was. Farah had felt the need to say, too, that Bloom's decision now couldn't possibly ever change how much they love and will always love her. Nevertheless, it had felt like a dream when their daughter had said yes, eyes lighting up as she did.
