When Musa’s mother died, the young thirteen year old fairy felt everything Melissa felt. When Melissa succumbed to her illness, Musa was devastated and traumatized by her own fairy magic. Hearing that Musa had a father, her grandfather dropped young Musa off on Alfea’s doorstep. subconsciously Musa held her backpack and suitcase closer, waiting for someone to answer the front door. It was half past midnight when Musa was discovered on the entryway, by Saul who was doing his nightly rounds with Farah. Crouching down Saul picked up the young sleeping fairy, and followed Farah inside.

It’s so weird to reread the girls before… everything, when they were at their base form, no development and complete strangers 

I like how I did the intro, Flora being open, Tec and Musa being more cautious and closed off.

The awkwardness between Flora and Bloom as they try to break the ice is too real.

Also, I’d totally forgotten I wrote Musa as not initially liking Stella ajajjajajjajaa (again you can tell I had no idea how to write Stella yet, I don’t even recognize her)

Uuuffff reading about s1 Riven… I forgot how angry my boy was. Love this particular part of this chapter, the very first POV from the Specialists, it’s still very special to me.

I’m so emotional about the girls being so weak and overpowered by the Trix UGH THE POWER CRAWL HASN’T EVEN STARTED YET

But also how the main thing they have in common at this point is how none of them hesitate to jump head-first into danger just because they know Bloom needed help and THEY DON’T EVEN REALLY KNOW HER YET

Real life pov:

Going to the training ground, walking through the corridors, Sky sees Musa running in the entrance.

"Why are you in such a hurry?" Asks the boy.

"I just finished my training and I have 5 minutes to change before going to my first class."

The fairy is panting, gasping for air.

"Good luck then!"

Sky quickly greets Musa before exiting and heading outside. From a distance he sees Riven talking with Kat so the blond prefers to go with Dane for the first training of his day.

At the other end of the field, sitting on the ground are Riven and Kat. The boy is playing with a blade of grass while talking.

Kat speaks:

"Are you sure she likes me? Because she still hasn't texted me."

Riven rips off the strand and twists it into a knot, "Nothing at all?"

"Nothing!" Kat sighs as she lies down in the grass.

"It's only an idea huh, but why don't you talk to each other?"

"If we can't even talk on text, what do you want to do in real life?"

Riven smiles amusedly, "I know she likes you, so you don't lose anything talking to her. Just say hello."

"I'll think about it."

Musa's pov :

Real life pov :

The midday sun beats down on the greenhouse as Musa sits on one of the stools. She tries to practice botany because it is not the subject in which she excels the most. The brunette has her hands plunged into the earth when her stomach begins to gurgle. She removes her hands from the pot and wipes them on towel. She gets up from the high wooden stool and goes to the sink to wash her hands. Musa looks around at the same time. The room is filled with flowers and plants of all kinds. From beautiful hyacinths to bulky ivy. Musa smiles as she observes the room and goes back to her seat, opening a paper bag with a sandwich in it, she clearly doesn't have time to eat during the lunch break. She has to hurry so she can keep practicing.

Musa's pov :

Musa and Riven arrive in the cafeteria. The fairy sees in the distance, seated at a table, all their friends. Beatrix and Stella are seated next eachothers while Bloom and Sky are seated at directly opposite. Aisha eats her meal next to Bloom while Terra and Flora sit face to face, talking. Musa and Riven head towards them. The boy pats Beatrix's head as he passes, undoing her hair slightly. Beatrix nudges his arm with a smirk. Playfully, he sticks his tongue out at her as he goes to sit next to Sky,  and Musa sits next to her boyfriend.

"What are you talking about?" Musa asks, sticking her fork into her dish.

"We're wondering if I should ask Helia if he wants to, like, go on a date with me." Flora answers, turning to the two newcomers.

"Yes!" Riven responds hastily.

Flora nods before resuming her discussion with her cousin.

Musa looks at Riven questioningly:

"Why so much excitement?"

"I'm trying to play Cupid with four different people here, it's tiring I swear."

"Four?"

Riven nods. The boy is eating a salad, sorting the olives and setting them aside. He hates olives. Musa points to her plate and the specialist puts the olives in her dish, whispering: "Helia, Flora and -"

"And?"

This is when Riven realizes his mistake. He promised Terra not to tell, and he won't.

"I can't tell you right now. When the last two people want to talk about it, they will."

He is afraid. A feeling of discomfort filled his whole being. Riven is afraid of Musa's reaction. What if she gets offended by his answer?

"Okay, thanks for the olives." Musa replies, quickly kissing his cheek then eating her meal again. Finally, Riven has nothing to worry about. She understands it. She understands it because she's half of him. Better, they are the same.

After dinner, Musa and Riven walk, their arms intertwined, to Musa's suite. The fairy is clearly tired by this day and is just waiting to be able to fall asleep. Her two space buns are slightly undone and her purple makeup has run off. The bluish sequins of her eyeshadow are glued under her eyes. Riven's eyes are completely mesmerized by Musa. In a room full of people, he'll recognize her everywhere. Musa and her space buns or pigtails, Musa and her colorful makeup, Musa and her music. Musa.

"We never went on a date together."

Riven thinking is interrupted by Musa's words.

"What? But yes, we went to the beach, and in town and we made a cake together. We even did some coloring together."

"Did you consider it a date when we weren't in a romantic relationship?" Asks the mind fairy.

Riven giggles lightly.

"Of course yes..but no...but yes."

The fairy's smile widens as Riven speaks.

"Relax Riv, those were dates for me too. But you never asked me out loud to go out with you. And I never asked you either."

Riven lightly shakes the fairy's hand: "So you want to go out like we've done before, but calling it a date."

"Exactly." The brunette nods.

"OK I got you!" Said the specialist leaning over to kiss Musa's cheek. "Go and rest Sweet girl, see you tomorrow."

Musa comes to cup Riven cheek and goes on her tippy toes to kiss him lightly on the lips.

When she pulls back to catch her breath, Musa looks at Riven and asks him, "Do you want to come in? We can watch some TV or listen to some music."

The boy nods. Extra time with Musa is clearly not negligible. Never.

My thoughts on the Netflix winx (am I late to the complain train?) part 1

They are very very negative

In this post I’ll go over the obvious: the racism and other social issues

Flora being white washed and then renamed. Idk what’s worse, the fact that they thought we wouldn’t notice if she had a different name, or the fact that the name is still as awful and uninspired as the the original. Like it makes even less sense she still controls plants not dirt! Like honestly I’d be happy if they revamped some of the names to take out most of the “a” suffixes. Also just make her entire family Hispanic. Do it. Now.

In the same vein Musa being white washed and then wearing eyeliner each episode. Og Musa wasn’t “maybe has Asian heritage and looks kinda not even Asian with eyeliner” Og Musa was Asian. Well Chinese coded because she came from another dimension. But she was Asian coded not “maybe asian” coded. And like being Chinese is not the same as having eyeliner you can put on or off. Very disappointing.

Not a point but I’d like to note that I think the actresses are gorgeous and I’m not pointing fingers at them, like man just take Netflix’s money. And I’ve seen some of them address some of these concerns about the whitewashing and hoping that they get more people of colour on the show. Like I wish the writers and show directors did that considering they’re the responsible ones

Aisha getting the black friend stereotype. Like cmon, the writers gave her nothing. I’m sorry but she could be replaced by a water hose and an emotional support puppy. And the worse thing is that she’s just the most likeable character purely because everyone’s arcs are shit and you can’t get a shit arc if you don’t have one. I mean at the end she tells them “hey let’s not free the genocidal lady imprisoned in the basement” and no one listens and everything goes to hell. Like the entire finale stakes rested on everyone not listening to Aisha. And she was right and no one in the show acknowledged it. I’m mad for her.

Stella having the “im mean cuz my parents are mean”. I accidentally deleted this point and this entire post is taking an hour to write so essentially. This trope is fine. It’s overused. It makes it seem like every kid will be mean if their parents are and that is false. We didn’t even get to see her redemption. Also og Stella had a more unique, interesting and real storyline of how her parents were neglectful and she deals with it by being loud and she makes light of it (pun intended). Yeah

Terra and fatphobia. I’ve seen people say they thought this was handled well. And that’s completely fair like if you’re part of any of these groups I’ve talked about then, it’s your call. But this is my argument to why I don’t think it was handled well. 1) no one else is really plus sized. Which makes it worse when 2) all the characters even the good characters seem to dislike Terra partially due to her weight. Like if you wanted to address the struggles of someone suffering from fatphobia then you’d want to show at some point people liking her despite her weight. But we never see Aisha apologise for the whale comment. And we never see Musa apologise for her cold treatment of Terra. And we never see anyone call Riven out for his treatment of Terra apart from when she does so herself. Idk if they were trying to go for “fatphobia is bad” they didn’t do it very well, and honestly it just feels like an excuse to write in some fatphobia based insults.Stella getting the “my parents are mean so I am mean” arc. I’m tired. Yeah it’s a fine trope. Yeah it happens in real life. Is that what all children of hard situations turn out to be in real life. NO! Like they didn’t even use the trope right. Why on earth does Stella’s mum want her daughter to look like a psycho?? And the worse part is that SHE DOESNT EVEN DO THE REDEMPTION ARC. Stella’s like “I’m back now” and everyone accepts it and move on. No memorable moment of Stella realising she’s wrong. No real change in the group’s dynamic. She comes back and just bosses people about like I’m sorry character development who?

Dane. Just everything about him. All of it. We get two poc. And they got the black friend and the villainised minority tropes. Yay. Also Dane basically being bisexual despite for some reason no one on the show seems to know what that is including himself. The episode where Riven kept asking if he was gay over and over again made me want to cry. Okay so the problem with Dane having just all the minority labels (this is a joke he’s just black and probably bisexual) as well as being the villain isn’t that I don’t think minorities should be portrayed as villains, it’s that I don’t think we should have villains who are villains BECAUSE they are minorities. It’s like saying “oh you’re [insert minority]? So you suffer discrimination? So you either act out on it or find coping mechanisms. Well I’m only going to portray you as the villain not the people oppressing you :)” like, 1) not everyone who suffers from “being left out” due to discrimination is gonna go break a murderer out of jail because she taught them how to vape. Its just the only representation of lgbt people and one of the only representations of poc on this show and he’s a bad guy? Because of how minorities are ostracised and stereotyped as the teens who smoke weed and hate the government? And our good characters are mostly white and heterosexual. No thank you. We could have just had villains who had more plot relevant motivations. Also Dane isn’t even seen as respectable. White, apparently not even gay, Riven in the last episode, portrayed as the normal, “sane” one, conversing civilly with Terra and being almost a voice of reason to Dane.

I’m so tired. I’m done talking about this but I have one last point. Bloom’s mum. In the og we get this really important concept of how adopted family IS real family and her parents are the most supportive people ever. It was nice and I wouldn’t trade it for the angstiest backstory in the world. Unfortunately Netflix traded it for a corn chip. Netflix bloom’s parents are kinda psychotic (stealing your child’s door isn’t just abuse it’s actually barbaric wtf) and then we see them act normal if not somewhat strained with Bloom for the rest of the series. If you’re child sleeps in a random warehouse every night and you don’t notice and I think you’re failing at being a parent. It feels like we’re erasing positive representation of adopted families in a piece of media which had that and it’s icky

I’m gonna go over the rest of my thoughts later but like here’s the first part I guess. Next up is why the writing sucks even regardless of these issues
