Meet Sylvie Ley’vathi, Soul Seeker of the Crucis Haven!

Aka a best child who’s doing their best but the world keeps throwing wrenches at them.

“Although… there’s a good reason for that. N-no offense meant, but… Forest sirens can often be rather… Well, I suppose it makes sense, considering my kind is usually known for the aggression and blood thirst and… things…”

Pronouns: They/Them/Their or Ve/Vem/Vir

Age: Mid-three hundreds? Somewhere around 350 years.

Siren Type: Surge; tropical reef siren, preferring shallow saltwater, but can survive brackish or freshwater.

Magic Colour: Caribbean blue-green

Magic Level: Slightly lower than average, Surge and Forest mixed blood.

Base Appearance: Based off of a blacktip reef shark: soft, sandy beige skin, lighter ventral markings; all fins have black tips outlined with lighter colour; narrowly triangular, finely serrated teeth; and fairly small size.

Sylvie is a Soul Seeker, a siren equivalent to a historian and anthropologist researching the cultural and biological origins of the siren race and magic itself, with a focus on records of past societies and past events, ancient artifacts both magical and not, and stories and rumors of all siren-kind.

But there’s a big difference with Sylvie. They’re a Surge siren, a type more often seen as being violent and brash, with little care for such delicate things as historical documents or the intricacies of complex magic. In order to work as a Soul Seeker in a Forest Haven, they had to make an oath of pacifism—something not to be taken lightly by a siren kind that usually sees cowardice as the worst weakness.

Week 0 - Introduction

For your ocs backstory week 0: introduction

“Agnet Rel Inkoia.”

Agnet adjusts himself, moving his wrists in an attempt to make the handcuffs more comfortable. He purses his lips when the scarred skin of his arms tightens.

“D’ you mind loosening these?” The lawkeeper glares at him.

“Sir,” he says, voice hard. Agnet rolls his eyes.

“Yes, I know what I’m in here for,” he drawls.

“This is your fifth arrest for breaking and entering, sir,” says the other lawkeeper. She shifts her weight uncomfortably. “The fine will be higher.”

Agnet shakes his head, attempting to jostle the mousy brown hair from his face. “Could you tie my hair back?” They both stare at him.

“Sir-”

He growls as his hair just falls further in his face, draping past his shoulders and tickling his nose. “Then can you hurry it up already? I’m gonna fuckin’ sneeze.”

The first lawkeeper sighs. “Sir. You cannot burn a mattress while trespassing and not expect to be handcuffed.”

“Oh, nobody even lives there anymore, dumbass, ‘s been abandoned for five years.”

The man’s nostrils flare. “Sir.”

“Most people who get burn scars playing with fire learn their lesson,” the woman mumbles, staring pointedly at his arms. Agnet rolls his eyes harder.

“I’ll pay the fine,” he says, with a look of utter petulance on his face. And then he grins, sharp and smug, eyes glinting with mischief. “But you can't throw me in jail if the house is abandoned.” The cheer in his voice only serves to infuriate them further. He considers it a success.

“Shouldn’t be surprised you know how the laws work,” the woman mutters. The man scoffs beside her.

“Do this again,” he says, “and I’ll personally up the fine.”

“Who says I’d be caught again?”

The man stifles a cry of frustration.

Happy Storyteller Saturday! What are some ways you organize your notes/writing thoughts?

I’ve used a few different methods for taking story notes/thoughts, I’ve done chapter by chapter summaries, story summaries, recorded plot points of books and series. Usually I record all these in a doc, but I used to and sometimes still use actual notebooks (composition are my favorite for some reason). That’s just the framework though, for specifics and details, I keep that all in my head, or write it in the story if I can at the moment.

For STS! What would you say is the most interesting fact (small or large) about your different main characters?

Uhhhhh most interesting fact? That’s a pretty open question, I’m really not sure! But I can try and give some cool things I suppose~

Celestine has so much about them that is really interesting, but really spoilery. For one, their age is just… terribly messed up. Physically, they’re around 14 years old. Mentally, they’re… late twenties, maybe? But chronologically? Well. They appeared 14 in their earliest memories, from about twenty years ago.

Dione has been using powerful magic for… a long time. Because of this, her physiology has begun to change in minor ways: most notably, her hair and eyes, but the pointed tips to her ears and the small patches of metallic scales about her shoulders and waist give a better indication of the siren-like traits she’s taking on.

Phoenix was mainly raised by her Great Aunt in her late adolescence. Her Great Aunt worked as one of the lighthouse keepers for the island she grew up on—Nixi would help quite a bit, on some days taking the job on by herself when Auntie was too ill. There’s a good reason for why she knows so much about flammables~

Colin, despite most knowing him to be… a very clumsy clutz. Is actually really skilled and deft with his hands! He’s very good at throwing things accurately (as long as it’s not too heavy), he’s very fast at fiddling, and his dexterity with tying knots is one of the highest on his ship! His clumsiness mostly comes from his lack of balance, so he ends up tripping on things or falling over with minimal reason.

Mind if I drop a STS question in here a few days early? I will be unable to Saturday. What job would your OC be terrible at?

Ah, I know this is from a few days ago but I hope that answering it on Saturday is alright! Feel free to take all the time you need to get to the ask I sent you in return. ^u^

What would they be terrible at? I mean… a lot? There’s a lot of options here. XD I’ll pick out a few of the worst ones:

Celestine would fare worst with a job having something to do with water. That’s because of their phobia, but they also would likely be terrible at anything that would have them in the presence of wealthy people, because right after everyone would be realizing how much jewelry or money would suddenly be missing. ^^’ Celestine also doesn’t tend to enjoy any sort of creative mediums, so they wouldn’t do too well at being an artist or writer.

Don’t put Colin into any sort of work that requires a whole lot of reading and writing. He has dyslexia, but also his patience would be… uh. Bad. Bad for this. Any work that requires a lot of patience and sitting still he would likely find difficult.

Phoenix is pretty well rounded in her skillset, but I imagine she wouldn’t be very good with any jobs that require fitting into small spaces. And despite her understanding of basic math and such, more complex physics and mathematics aren’t her strong suit at all.

And Dione! Would be! So bad!!! The absolutely worst ever!!! At any sort of public speaking job holy heck!! Social anxiety? Is terribly afraid in crowded places? Doesn’t speak audibly? Ahhhh mate, this would be the worst for her. Even back in her youth when she did speak, some of the duties required of her rank as princess of her kingdom… well. It… wasn’t the best position for her.

I know that’s more vague, but I couldn’t really think of any specific jobs that would apply, so I hope this suffices as an answer! Thank you for the ask! ^u^

🍼 Does your OC have any children or want children? What names would they pick? Are they good with kids or a complete disaster?

My first OC I think of that has children is Kor, who is my villain, and while he is a terrible father figure in terms of emotional support, he does make sure his children have everything they need. No hugs but ever tool and skill that can be provided. 

🦋 If your OC could change everything (or just something) about their life would they? What would they change? What do they think would happen if they did? What would their loved ones think?

I’ll do Seth for this one since it’s such a tricky answer. At the moment, Seth would change the fact that she lost her memories, which would cause a lot of anarchy and change the direction of the story. However, if she could change something while having her memories, she wouldn’t align herself with the gods, as they ended up betraying her.

How to make a plot villainous enough to attract they attention but tame enough they won’t get hurt

Would calling their cell for a random chat because like villain-creepy or stalker-creepy? Or both?

Okay so when they wink at me after a great comeback, is that just their charismatic arrogance or do they maybe like me back?

My newest villain monologue was gonna include this bit about my rough childhood but idk that feels like a fifth date fight subject
