hey why are the Van Helsings always the Vampire Hunting Family in modern Dracula stories. Abraham Van Helsing might be the guy who knows stuff but his family is off in the Netherlands and/or dead and totally uninvolved in the plot. Abraham's great-great grandson has no reason to be doing backflips and chopping off heads or whatever
You know who is a family who hates Dracula so so much and would totally teach their kids how to hunt vampires? The Harkers. Give me a modern vampire story where the protagonists are about to die when out pops Quincey Arthur John Lucy Abraham Murray Harker the Fifth, armed with a giant knife and an encyclopedic knowledge of train schedules

also i think this has been figured out at this point but the whole "i miss queerbaiting" convo is like... the part of queerbaiting that ruled was because the show was usually putting forward two dudes, those two dudes got to have character arcs and motivations and writing behind both of them. they could both be interesting individually. because neither of them were shunted into 'disposable romantic interest' for each other.
but if a gay couple on tv is now supposed to be there, writers can fall for the m/f trap of 'only one of these characters needs to be fleshed out, the other is just here to explicitly be the love interest and maybe die later' except now they can both be dudes. it's not that queerbaiting was inherently better it's that unfortunately people have always been bad at understanding what makes fictional romance compelling, which is 'who the fuck are these people in the first place and why should i care'

I know your title says queer history but do you have any recommendations covering the straight movement? Specifically, how did hating queer people become a priority for the straights and why did they build their political project around it?
Wonderful question! Yes, I actually have read a bit about this!
For a more modern look at how homophobia is enforced and expanded culturally:

I hope this helps!

So if you're just waking up, itchio took down NSFW and a lot of queer content overnight. They did this with no warning or announcement, no emails, nothing. Their statement blames Collective Shout, the same people who went after Steam, for pressuring the payment processors.
Well. Let's pressure the bastards back.

Remember: don't be an asshole to rank and file employees. Don't yell, swear, or threaten. You're mad at the corporate heads, not the normies. Be firm but polite in all messages you leave, no matter where they are.
If you have any other links or ideas, please reblog with them! We're all in this together. If you're queer, remember that you're pornographic to them by default. They will come for you, so strike now while we can!

SO👏 I work in a library and every year we strive to do pride displays, but theres a certain group of assholes who will check out the majority of our queer non fic for the soul purpose of gatekeeping that information from the public.
SO I WAS WONDERING if any of you lovely internet people had online resource suggestions, or potentially any pdf booklets full of queer information I could print out?

Anti-intellectual attitudes are on the rise on social media, the billionaires who run these apps are banking on people being uneducated or uninterested in education slipping from their fingers. So now is a good time to invest time into following accounts that teach you things, engaging with their content, and most importantly LEARNING.
Communal learning is inherently anti-fascist. Give them hell.
