something ive always thought abt but never managed to do anything with: the fact that Hunter's only physical difference from Caleb (that isnt inherent to all grimwalkers) can't be seen at all as long as he keeps his mouth shut.

One of the many things that keep me wake up at night when I think about Hunter and his story is how when he talks about the other golden guards he refers to them as family, members of the family he lost to “wild magic”

It breaks my heart and it leaves me with so many questions, because before realizing he is actually a grimwalker, Hunter does mention having a family besides his uncle but he doesn’t go beyond of just saying having lost it tragically to wild magic. It makes me wonder what is the picture that comes to his mind when he thinks about the family he lost.

He has false mental images of parents and siblings? False memories of a life before Belos? Or he actually never got anything to go by? thinking that he just can’t remember only to come to the horrific realization that he doesn’t have memories of his family because he never had one in the first place?

Belos is his uncle but does that mean that he knows Belos had a brother? If that so, does said brother is who he considers his late father? Or the title of uncle was what Belos told him to refer him as without ever giving him an explanation as to why?

If for him the past golden guards are not just honorary members of the emperor’s coven but family, what he see them as? He considers them his siblings? His cousins? Or any specifications are a blank page that never got anything written on it beyond them being his kin?

Does he even know their names?

I like to think that, even after the revelation of his nature as grimwalker, even after Belos’ defeat, he still considers the other golden guards his family.

That he acknowledges them and see himself in them, sees the loneliness that connects them. And comes to the decision of not giving them up, to keep embracing them as his own.

After all, everyone deserves someone to call family.
