To those of you who worship obscure divinities: there are no rule that bind you except your own. Go worship that obscure deity. Go invent that festival from scratch. Go make that offering even if it’s unusual. Go write that prayer even if you’re the only one who gets it. Go play around with your freedom as a practitioner and explore! Even in a spiritual context, creativity is a gift.

I'm going on today, everyone say thank you buff magician
I'm understudying in a show right now that has a lot of major arcana scattered on stage. I'm very well prepared but a little overworked and worried about being called on.
Today I observed a performance and a double sided Magician/Strength landed by my feet. I am skeptical of whatever I draw for myself, but if someone else or the universe hands me a card I fucking pay attention
I'm reserving some strength tomorrow in case my hard work needs to pay off in courage...

Vultures are holy creatures.
Tending the dead.
Bowing low.
Bared head.
Whispers to cold flesh,
“Your old name is not your king.
I rename you ‘Everything.’”

rambling: views on deities, coexistence
the way I describe it is "my lane, your lane". I deeply do not feel affected by, indebted to, or in collaboration with any specific, named being of power. I can see how my friends and fellows function differently, though, to which I offer them no disbelief - It's just not how I function on a baseline sense.
So imagine how I felt this morning waking up and feeling extremely called to start leaving an offering every so often on my mirror altar. I think I need to sit and ruminate, and try to get a better idea of who's in my spiritual inbox so I can either say "hi! you can party here but I have quiet hours and we're colleagues at best" or "I have boundaries please go"

"There's no wildlife here. The land is barren and stripped from farming chemicals"
I just saw two blue herons fly super low over our house, which means they've been fishing in the creek behind us, which means there's fish there. Which means there's bugs to feed the fish and algae to feed the bugs, which means the water and soil is worth something damnit.
Yes, I'm sorry the suburb isn't the grand, sweeping swath of uninhabited land that you so desperately crave but would learn to loathe, but saying that the land here is barren and that there's no wildlife here and that there's nothing to salvage- that's a You problem. Nature might be struggling, but against all odds it is at least trying.

Rituals on Moons
Haven't decided what feels useful/needed for me to do on new/full moons. Ideally, if we weren't living in an active and massively disabling pandemic, I'd host dinners every full moon. But that's not how it works around here anymore.
I also want to call out how first freeze, first snow, a final job interview, and new moon all landed on the same day for me. Tbh rude

theaters and performance spaces
Something I'm thinking about a lot right now is my relationship to theaters. I do a lot of work in theaters. Theaters of all kinds are usually haunted or aware of its users in some way. I do my best, I at least say hello and goodbye every time I enter/exit a space.
Site-specific theater is funky, though. there are different presences(? entities?) associated with spaces used as theaters. it's like entering a home of a different culture but trying to be your best self.
Had a very powerful and telling dream after working in a historic site repurposed as a theater. Resulted in a tattoo that probably wasn't necessary but made me feel pretty cool, so that's free cool-feeling points. (not free. not free in the slightest. very expensive cool points)
A similar ask I give to houses and theaters: I will try to respect you, please try to respect me. We may not always achieve this, but we can try to be good.

Ways To Be A Garbage Witch
Look everyone, in These Trying Times we can't always afford things so we gotta make do with what we got. So here's some hot tips to help you become a garbage witch:
Save and use apple seeds, orange seeds, peach pits, cherry pits, etc. to use in your spells.
Make a spirit board/pendulum board out of an empty cardboard box.
Make drawstring pouches out of old clothes.
Use bag strings for binding magic or use them in small drawstring bags.
Shoelaces and drawstrings from old pajamas or sweatpants are fine for knot magic or turning into drawstrings for pouches.
Save glass jars for spell jars.
Study carrion animals, animals that eat garbage, fungus, and the process of decomposition in general. Learn about the importance of biodiversity, and the hazards of oversterilization.
But also study proper sanitation methods, and be aware of biohazards. Don't go living in a house fulla mold or fish through people's garbage for... uhhh... ummm... taglocks. Don't store chicken bones so they'll rot.
If you have a compost bin, write anything you want to "decompose" out of your life on a banana peel. Put the banana peel in the bin.
Learn how to repair broken stuff. (But also learn what you really shouldn't repair for yourself - EG, microwaves - lest you meet with a horrible fate.)
Make charms/talismans by cutting out pictures of things that correspond with your intent and decoupaging them onto wood, chipboard, or layered cardboard.
Make paper mache diety art/statues out of newspaper.
Learn more about crafting with scraps, packaging materials, old magazines, etc. (There's many videos on YouTube!)

Omg. Kitchen witchy pizza punks!
What? Like, you have a new moon ritual where you make the dough and each person brings an ingredient that corresponds to a specific goal. You could all make a self-care pizza and eat it in the kitchen dancing to music together.

Seasonal Cycle Thoughts
Something I started to work on was making intentional seasonal habits so that I could save some money and not go nuts. You can see that most of my practice is about not going nuts.
Fall Equinox:
Rotate out warm-weather wardrobe
Rotate in cold-weather wardrobe
Make a meal with leeks
Deep clean
Finish harvest
Fall Equinox to Winter Solstice:
Dry black beans on hand
Accumulate new items needed for cold season
Preserve harvest
Winter Solstice:
Make a meal with squash
Declutter
Host my friends for a nice, cozy solstice dinner
Winter Solstice to Spring Equinox:
Dry Great Northern beans on hand
Mend items for warm season
Propagate garden
Spring Equinox:
Rotate out cold-weather wardrobe
Rotate in warm-weather wardrobe
Make a meal with parsnips
Deep clean
Spring Equinox to Summer Solstice:
Dry chickpeas on hand
Mend items for cold season
Plant garden
Summer Solstice:
Make a meal with arugula
Declutter
Party hard with my friends for solstice!
Summer Solstice to Fall Equinox:
Some sort of dry bean TBD on hand. I think it should be lentils but.... IDK
Build mending skills
Grow garden

when you're mean to me this is who you're being mean to
Tumblr media
it's the intro post
using this blog for witchy rambling that I can't necessarily let loose IRL. I don't feel the need to name or defend my practice/s, but for clarity's sake, I'm secular with a loose abrahamic upbringing.
