A quick note on the current discourse. (bc as a trans, but afab genderfluid individual with dimension 20 blog, I feel it irresponsible not to.)
I like Dropout. I like a lot of their content, heck I like Mismag (especially S2, I like that it largely stepped away from the source material, and in general I think it is just a really great season of D20). Is Dropout perfect? No.
Liking something does not make it immune from critique. In fact, you should absolutely critique the things you like.
Dropout should absolutely hire more transfems.
Mismag should have absolutely had a transfem on the cast.
People are really showing their true colours here. 'But they have Erika on the mismag cast!' yes, and I love Erika on the Mismag cast. But as JK Rowling's transphobic rhetoric is largely centered around transmisogyny, there should have been a transfem on cast. 'But Persephone Valentine is on Dropout' Yes, but she's also only one person. There are so many funny transfems. There are so many transfems in TTRPG spaces. It would be great to see them.
It's like with any other form of representation, in any other media. We can be glad for the representation we have, while also realising it could be better. Dropout isn't going to vanish into the abyss because people question 'hey, can we get some more trans women?'
Some of you are being really vitriolic about this. Maybe look inside yourselves and wonder why that is.

Idk how to explain this but Sam and Evan to me are so lesbian specifically in the way where I absolutely could see either one of them going 'Oh yeah, they confessed their love for me and we held each other's hands in the moonlight for half an hour before they kissed me on the forehead goodnight but idk if they actually like me, friends do that don't they?'

I think the main difference between the houses and what this is now, is the ability to choose really. The confirmation dias tried to shove them into boxes, whereas now it more feels like they're choosing what they want to be, regardless of natural talent/inclination and agreeing on that with beings that importantly regard them as peers. Evan wants to protect his friends, and he's always the one who says to 'dream small', so he gets Tad. K wants to be able to make big swings, to spread magic around, so she gets the amplification magic, Jammer wants to create (and his is the most in line with his innate magic, but also, as is Jammer. He's creating community and teams and his magic reflects that, but also it's notable that this last ep he also goes outside his previous role of jock, taking over the learning of obscure ancient magic from Evan). Idk what Sam will get, if any, but I find it super interesting that the characters are now getting to choose what they want, and what they want is often seemingly very out of line with the expectations of their 'roles'
(idk if this makes sense or if it's remotely true it's like 1am but those are my vibes of it)
As we speculate about which magical island (if any) Sam will be the avatar of, I'm noticing a hint of...Hogwarts houseness about it. This categorization and labelling and neat boxing-up of the characters, which is exactly what MisMag was so firmly satirizing last season.
Sorting is bullshit! That's why we root for Chimeron, the "everyone else" house where the uncategorizable kids all go. Evan the melee wizard and K the healer and defender could easily switch colors. Evan the nerd suits the Qholye. K the magical network maker fits Galamanis. Evan was talking about how Jammer made Chimeron cool: Is that creation, or changing how people see things, Seegenpelater-style?
Even if the group becomes the founders of a new school of magic, that school won't have houses. What's more: Can you picture K or Sam staying one thing forever? They've both changed their name multiple times before hitting the U.S. drinking age!
I don't know where this story is going - the field is wide open, no paved road for the kids to follow. But I know that the Confirmation Dias is dead. Let's see what the next thing is.

i'm so obsessed with brennan's interpretation of charisma for an extremely autistic-coded character being that evan gives up the anxiety about fitting in, he stops masking, and instead he leans into his blunt, matter-of-fact nature, and that serves him SO MUCH BETTER in social situations than constantly apologizing for being different

OK but does anyone have any clue as to where Erika's shirt in the new mismag ep (s2e7) is from. I need it.

Credit to @irisbaggins for making this connection: K didn't just want to fix Evan's elbow because they want to fix everything in the whole world ever, though they do. And they didn't just want to do it because Evan's lack of super-healing is a result of the decision to drive out his demons, though that was there too.
It was because the injury must have happened after the breakup, when K wasn't there to protect him. K kept doing the work of at least two people keeping up the spider network in hopes that it would help Evan too, but when they saw him again, he had new scars and injuries, so they hadn't helped enough.
Trying to fix the mistake of releasing magic into the world indiscriminately was a Sisyphean exercise, but here was a mistake they could fix! (Theoretically. Maybe.) An elbow is so much more manageable than a worldwide magical network, right?

I've seen some people theorise that bones only release magic when the person is dead, hence why K didn't get any notes of magic, but like, Lemli did get very close to K once they broke their ribs. And maybe it was just out of concern for a friend. But also maybe it was sensing something she could try and harvest

misfits and magic is NOT about analyzing the PCs actions and deciding who's right and who's wrong. it's about watching four autistic wizards wreak absolute havoc on each other and the entire wizarding world using the power of friendship

I can’t sleep after that Misfits and Magic episode, because all I can think about is they let T2 go off with the ex students.
