I didn’t feel any connexion to the paintings. But once you’ve seen it, you can’t “unsee” it…. You remember and it grows on you… It will rarely speak to the “You” you present to the world. It will rather talk to the inner you with the darkest, sexiest, freest twisted thoughts. Moreover, most of her paintings could be that kind of dream you had, the one that you can’t quite understand and makes you blush because you didn’t know you had it in you. ____________________ 🇫🇷 La 1ère fois qu’on m’a parlé du travail de Oh de Laval, c’est Stanleyboydston qui l’a fait. Je suis allée voir son site et… je n’ai pas accroché, je n’ai rien ressenti. Mais une fois que tu vois ses tableaux, difficile d’oublier… Tu t’en souviens et tu chope la fièvre… Son travail ne s’adresse pas au “Soi” que l’on présente au monde, loin de là. Il parle plutôt au soi intérieur et secret, celui aux pensées les plus sombres, sensuelles, libres et tordues. Ici, il se concentre sur l’essentiel. Du squelette du premier plan, figé dans des tonalités froides, on passe insensiblement à la lumière de l'improbable caravane surgissant à l'horizon. Avec une économie de moyens remarquable, une graduation subtile des plans qui mêle au ciel embrumé l'étendue poussiéreuse de la vaste plaine, Guillaumet parvient à traduire la quintessence du désert. Thiago Martins de Melo, Tree of Blood and Fire Obliterating Pigs, 2013 | My imaginary Collection « HOT STUFF ». 🇬🇧 I wrote my first Master’s Degree thesis on this artist. I met Thiago in Rio de Janeiro while I was doing research about the presence of religious syncretism in Brazilian Contemporary Art when I first discovered his work…. Martins de Melo’s practice is situated in a revisionary tense: it refers to cultural memory via a medium endowed with historicity, i.e. painting, and contemporaneously reinvents historical characters, culturally diverse populations and Brazil’s spiritual, peasant, mythical, indigenous and African entities.  ______________________ Represented by @mendeswooddm Gallery. 🇫🇷 J’ai écrit mon premier mémoire en Master d’Histoire de l’Art sur cet artiste. J’ai rencontré Thiago à Rio de Janeiro lorsque je faisais des recherches sur la présence de syncrétisme religieux dans l’Art Contemporain du Brésil. C’est là que j’ai découvert son travail. Son art porte un regard de “révision” sur l’histoire du pays. Les références sont multiples de la mémoire culturelle à la valeur historique du médium de la peinture. •Sable Elyse Smith, 1986, lives and works in New York City and Richmond, Virginia.Sable uses words shaped in neon lights that actually bear daggers, incorporating pop culture references into the work and some of those references are music or music related.

•Louis Fratino, 1993, lives and works in New York City. Louis paints the people he loves using the modernism as the vocabulary of painting he.she loves.

•Manuel Solano, 1987, lives and works in Mexico City. Manuel's interest in art has always been the exploration and expression of his.her own personal identity.

#Artfair & #Money & #Rihanna | David Zwirner announced a mammoth sale, even by the standards of the world’s most important art fair: An anonymous collector paid $20 million for Gerhard Richter’s Versammlung (1966)

• ARTISTS: Among the 29 top selling Artists by Value at Art Basel in Basel 2019, I couldn’t help but notice only 2 women and Yayoi Kusama is 13th BUT Non-white artists like Kim Whanki and Kerry James Marshall are in 4th and 6th position !

•GALLERIES: Data compiled by Artsy showed that among the galleries reporting sales, Hauser & Wirth dominated, with a total of more than $49.2 million. The only gallery that came close, Zwirner, with $46.6 million. At a distant 3rd was Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, with a total of $14.8 million. Overall, Artsy’s analysis shows that the 10 highest-grossing galleries - 3.4% of all participating galleries-  accounted for 75.4% of all sales reported during the fair.

•COLLECTORS: Despite being a predominantly European fair, dealers said Art Basel had managed to attract a healthy contingent of Asian collectors just a few months after that continent’s leading fair, Art Basel in Hong Kong. 

•RIHANNA: She walked into the 2019 edition of the Art Basel fair in Basel, Switzerland, took a spin through the Gagosian booth, and then snapped a picture of a large wooden sculpture by Richard Artschwager in the David Nolan booth. But many failed to notice her companion, her boyfriend Hassan Jameel, a member of the billionaire Saudi art-collecting family that last year opened the Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai.
