For my throwback I opted for a sketch that will never be completed. 😅 It’s one of my favorite sketches of a piece of art that amazes me. The original is by the extraordinary Alphonse Mucha. A premier artist during the “Fin de Siecle”. The period was respectfully between the 1880s and the First World War. Art Nouveau was the new fresh style and advertising houses wanted to capture the “joie de vivre” that was erupting everywhere. This era often called “La Belle Époque” brought us greats like Violet Oakley, Emmanuel Orazi, Will H. Bradley, and of course Alphonse Mucha. One of my interests is illustration. I don’t have a favourite topic but have experimented with different media for my work, for example, pencil; oil, china and water colour paints; chalk and charcoal, along with digital apps. There are so many creative avenues to choose from. Here is a simple drawing of a bee I completed with Adobe Illustrator a year or so ago.

Bee populations are challenged by many impacts such as habitat destruction and vegetation clearance, which reduces the number of flowering plants available for pollination and food for foraging bees; the use of pesticides that are not selective when it comes to insects; the environmental effects of climate change; and the silent killers of bees, pathogens like fungi, parasitic mites, bacteria, and viruses. Apparently a third of our diet comes from the work of bees and apart from being instrumental in the productivity of agricultural crops for food – nuts, fruit, and vegetables; bees also generate honey, wax, royal jelly, and bee venom. The venom from bees is used in the development of treatments for arthritis, pain, inflammation, and skin health. Over many centuries, honey has been recognised for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. It is known the application of honey speeds the recovery of wounds, assists with digestion, contributes to brain health, is a rich source of antioxidants, and helps people recover from a cough or sore throat. Despite being small, bees are giants when it comes to the pollination game and creative inspiration. Recently completed: The Papillon, 5 x 7 oil on canvas. This will be framed with a 2.5 inch wide satiny silver frame which I found that’s really going to complement the color. I have it planned for an art show in Sept-October! This butterfly, I believe is called a Swallowtail. I passed through a gorgeous scenic view called Rock Gap on my way to Charlottesville, VA this summer (visiting my brother and sister-in-law). There were a TON of butterflies, several species of bee, and several birds all buzzing around this flower patch at the top of the overlook. Already an outstanding view, they brought a symphony of wonder for all who dares stop in the 100+ degree heat! Pro Tip: ALWAYS bring your good camera with you, as opportunity rewards the prepared! Next time a dude asks me out, I'm gonna tell him... "You gotta pick me up in a carriage, motherfucker, 'cause I wanna wear this dress!" Lmao! 😂😂😂 I LOVE IT! This dress is awesome! 💖😍 The whole idea for this costume took almost 6 weeks. I was thinking, "Well, if I'm going to be making an announcement, it has to be flamboyant." 😜👑 On the day of this photo shoot, I had to walk in full costume for about 3 blocks in a major, busy street. Lol! I got so many compliments from people who were walking down the street and from different office buildings. Others were waving or honking from cars driving by. There were 2 teenage girls on the opposite side of the street, they stopped and waved at me. They looked so excited. I was like, "Girls! I'm excited too!" Hahaha!! 😂 I had so much fun! I told my son, "I don't give a fuck about what people think of me. I'm having fun, that's what is important to me. But, I hope that someone else gets motivated by the things that I do.
