Now that I've had a few days to sit with it, I think this is my favorite moment of Niigo WL2. People seem to forget that the only reason Kanade makes songs to save Mafuyu is because Kanade told Mafuyu she needs to make that song and in turn justify her own hated existence. Main-story Mafuyu was giving pure GTFO about Kanade's attempts to save her until it became about their mutual survival. Somehow fandom twists that into Mafuyu making Kanade save her, but in a world where she sees Kanade's mental health isn't hanging on for any excuse to keep existing, she encourages Kanade to do something else with her time. Which is as fitting as it hurts because Mafuyu has always been about prioritizing others to the point of her own self-erasure.

But even then, even without her savior complex, Kanade still stays steadfast in her desire to make Mafuyu smile because a person who reaches out to others with warmth and genuinely strives to ease their suffering: that's the kind of person she is, with or without the trauma.

I know it's nothing revelatory, but WL2 for the most part seems to be about revisiting those aspects of the characters that fandom willfully butchers and this part, the subtle touch is just really well done, you know? They're good kids, and don't anyone forget it.

Emurui I love youuuuuu. It’s truly just the once in a lifetime miracle to find someone that understands and matches you beat for beat. Rui’s down to make Emu’s every fantastical idea as real as he possibly can, and Emu’s down to try Rui’s every stunt and contraption immediately. Polysho where Emu’s siblings couldn’t figure out which one of them she was dating and all of them thought she was with a different troupe member.

Kensuke was set on Rui, the whole “professionally defending her during their first meeting” and his direct request to take Emu with them when wxs left the park gave him the impression Rui was pursuing or courting her somehow and making an effort to be on formal terms with her family. Shousuke was convinced she was crushing on Tsukasa since she’s so clingy with him for a guy friend and Emu genuinely acts like he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. He always read it as some sappy annoying puppylove thing. But somehow, the two of them realize while talking about her that they both thought Emu was dating a different guy and go back and forth a bit until realizing they’re both now genuinely lost on which one she’s with-

So they go to Hinata knowing her and Emu are really close, hoping she’d shed some light and break the tie, until she drops the bombshell that she was fully under the impression Emu and Nene are currently dating and have been for months.

This is good. I hope this works out before Mizu/Ena5.

Back when JP censored Mizuki's coming out scene, I figured EN was purposely setting up to do something similar since using they/them no matter what narratively makes sense allows them to stay noncommittal about Mizuki's gender, otherwise our gendered language would force them to confirm how she identifies. i.e. If they used she/her when Niigo logically didn't know she wasn't cis, then whatever English pronouns Niigo used for her after she came out to them would show us what Mizuki actually prefers. But because ENsekai were using they/them even when it didn't make any sense for the story, they might continue to do that to avoid confirming anything with the excuse that that's the pronouns they've always used on Mizuki. That would really be a continual fuck you to audiences, even more than JP leaving that stupid "Unknown" marker on her bio.

Hello everyone. There's on ongoing movement on Twitter created by @timelyharmony_ urging ensekai to return to using she/her pronouns for Mizuki, as they originally intended to before caving to transphobes.

Mizuki is canonically a transgirl and using they/them pronouns for her undermines the significance of her current (and future!) events.

Please support the movement by spreading the tag #sheherformizuki to as many platforms as possible!

THE LOST POTENTIAL AURGH. I have nothing generous to say about Ena's chapter but I hope it's okay to add my own thoughts about why her chapter felt like such a waste, and it boils down to her total lack of agency in anything that happens.

Ena's love for Niigo and K's music is what motivates her to make moves and face her art in the OG timeline, enabling her frankly astounding growth, right? But WL2 says that without that inspiration, she would simply stagnate forever, and that's just… not Ena! Why are her classmates the ones pushing her to make them art?? Why is Airi the one who has to keep dragging her outside? Why does she magically stop wanting to disappear just so she can sit at home and wallow?? This is the girl who fought to make art even when she could barely stand the sight of what she created! In comparison to all the other WL2s showing how characters respond badly to changes in external stimuli, this Ena is not shown to do or want anything. If the WL2 purpose was to say how losing Niigo reduces the game's most decisive character to a purposeless shut-in then good job ig???

But even if that is the message, it's really not an interesting one. Like you said, we've seen Ena at the pits already, and anyone who read nothing but the main story summary probably could have deduced that No Niigo = Still Depressed Ena. The character agency is what makes a what-if scenario worth doing, and it's frustrating that the writers didn't bother here. Ena would spiral into her social media persona. Ena could have confronted her dad that he made her quit art. She could have run off to fucking America just to keep up the WL2 tradition! Personally, I've been toying with something similar to your influencer concept: the idea of Ena caving and combining her art and selfie account to finally get her work real attention, only to be forever haunted by the question of if the praise of her art is genuine or simply a shallow by-product of her face card (a parallel to Mizuki's WL2 in that she gave up hope of ever being good enough just to finally taste validation).

But literally, anything could have had more substance than what we got!

idk how to feel about ena's wl2 chapter. part 2 especially just feels a bit... hollow? like, in part 1 her mental health is in the absolute pits, sorta similar to now i wear this ribbon. but then all of the struggles and growth we saw her go through in the main timeline are glossed over in part 2 as her life smoothly improves. it implies that the only thing she's missing now is people to collaborate with, which is so far from all that n25 is to her

edit: OH MY GOD i just realized how much more interesting it could have been to have ena being a full on social media influencer in this timeline, having completely left art behind and trying to convince herself she's satisfied with only shallow recognition. that would've been the way to keep her both alive and unfulfilled, to show us a version of ena that's fundamentally wrong in a way that actually reveals something about who she is. the opportunity was right there!
