Character Building Questions, Feat. Lost and Fluff
2. What is their weapon of choice, and what weapon do they dislike using the most?
Fluff: * Uses her magic and her body, mostly; she’s not a trained fighter, but she did do martial arts as a kid. She doesn’t remember much, but she can throw a mean punch if she needs to.
Lost: * Her magic, one-hundred-percent; she’s fairly frail, afraid of physical pain but a very, very competent mage. She could blast an opponent into itty bitty bits if she wanted to (but she’d vomit because that is nasty and gross and why would she?).
4. Who did they look up to the most as a child? Who do they look up to as an adult?
Lost: * She looked up to great mages and scientists; their discoveries and accomplishments were inspiring, and she fought so hard to clamp down on her own wayward magic because she too wanted to use it to discover and unlock the secrets of the universe, to build great things to help people. Each week she’d read a new history book on an archmage, and she’d learn everything about them. She would gleefully recite the facts she knew to anyone who’d listen... though she did this less when she realised no one cared. They still inspire her, even now, as an adult.
Fluff: * It’s cheesy, but she looked up to her parents when she was young. She adored them, and mimicked them in everything; she’d follow them around the house, doing as they did, pretending to vacuum the house or chatter away on phone calls. They were her idols, and she aspired to be just like them; she’s since grown out of this idea of modelling, but continues to find her parents inspiring. She hopes that she can pay forward the love and kindness they showed her.
6. What languages do they speak? Do they have any idiosyncrasies or identifiable patterns of speech, word usages, etc?
Fluff: * She speaks the languages of both her parents, as well as Common. She can read and write Draconic fluently, though it’s a little rusty because she doesn’t use it as often. She also picks up little bits and pieces here and there of other major languages, but isn’t at the level that could be considered fluent in any of them; she mostly knows common words and a little slang. * She’s the kind of person who uses exclamation marks at the end of every sentence; she’s just so excited, guys! In text speech she almost always ends up in all caps or in rising caps, and she loves to use emoticons and smilies. * In speech she tends to reuse – perhaps overuse – positive descriptors and adjectives; ‘awesome’ and ‘wonderful’ are some of her favourites, though she tries her best to memorise as many synonyms of these as possible so she doesn’t sound like she’s repeating herself.
Lost: *  Speaks many languages; Common, Draconic, Fae, Common Magic, three other dialects used in arcana and a host of other languages, major and minor. She could’ve been a linguist, if she’d wished. Most of these are self-taught; she poured over grammar textbooks and dictionaries and played little language games until her written ability was excellent; her speaking ability is a little worse for wear because of this, though, since she’s not had much practice actually holding conversation. Still, she accomplished her goal of being able to read obscure magical textbooks without having to consult a dictionary constantly, and that’s what really matters. * As for speech, she’s quite prim and proper in the way she talks; she knows that appearances are everything, and that no one will take her seriously in the academic world if she doesn’t use the technical discourse required. As such, she tends to use complicated language and words not otherwise found outside of a dictionary; even when at her wits end (which is often) she maintains a calm, even tone and sensible language structure. If anything, a good indicator of how stressed she is how complicated her speech becomes; she uses her vocabulary as a fallback, a way to pretend that everything is right in the world even when she’s falling apart. * In text speech, she is, without a doubt, someone who loathes the use of abbreviations and other speech devices; you won’t catch her using or making typos, extra punctuation marks, or anything of that sort. In addition, her messages often read about as formally as a business email – even towards her friends – with separate lines for to, and from, signed with her name each time.
8. Do they eat a healthy diet? A varied one?
Lost: * The short answer is no. She’s hardly what one terms a healthy eater; it’s a miracle if she eats three meals a day, let alone healthy ones. She finds it difficult to want to eat when stressed, and sometimes the willpower to do so just escapes her; on these days, her breakfast normally consists of coffee, and lunch and dinner tend to be whatever is easiest to make, assuming they occur at all. She’s more than a little skinny because of this. That being said, she is more than well aware of what she should be doing in regards to food and healthcare; unfortunately, self-care can be a little difficult some days, and all her knowledge just makes her feel more guilty when she skips meals.
Fluff: * Fluff adores food, and eating, and cooking. She loves variety too, and makes a habitat of eating different cuisines and trying new ones as often as she can. When it’s practicable on her student budget, at least. She keeps her diet balanced and healthy; she has her treats, maybe indulges a little, maybe practices bad habits sometimes – she is a student, after all, and more than a little busy – but she’s good about it and makes sure to get all her necessary vitamins and minerals as often as she can.
