Firstly, put them on regular therapy, but counseling is a must. Marc lies to them, God and himself to the point of self destruction because he doesn’t know what to do otherwise, as it took him literal death to stop to run away from his problems. Layla 1000% has trust issues from all of this bullshit, and with all reason, and shitty subplot aside, Layla probably didn’t dealt that well with the fact that her husband has + 1 personality who is a different person if she knowingly kissed Steven, after fighting with Marc, while barely knowing what the fuck was going on with them. Steven’s feelings are important in this as well because he has got a crush, maybe polyamorus while dealing with 2844 identity and existential crisis, on top of having self steam issues

I want extra episodes of Marc, Layla and Steven going to couple’s therapy. A lot has to be discussed.

Thinking of Moon Knight. Back in the first episodes (episode 2 or 3 I think), we can see that Layla and Steven have a lot in common. They are both fascinated with archeology and Egyptology, have common interests and are the smart types.

So far so well, Layla always had an equilibrium with both Steve and Marc, and their liking for her, while caused some friction, was something that allowed them to start go towards common goals.

But then we find out that Marc, who married Layla, was the first personality, and that he created Steven as a consequence of DID. Steven was a way of protection, a way to have a life without trauma and to salvage some sense of normalcy. Marc doesn’t control Steven or his personality, but his subconscious clearly heavily influenced Steven’s… well, Steven. Steven Grant originated from memories that Marc had from his little brother, his favorite show about archeology, the craving for some healthy relationship with his mother. Steven is the personification of what Marc values, and can’t have.

And then I remembered that Steven had a lot in common with Layla. Like very specifics common points. Same favorite author, same poem, speaking the same languages, even the specifics of Egyptology in special.

Did Steven develop those specific preferences because of Layla? Because Marc loved her, and thought she was amazing and admired her, and then those bits of amazement lingered to Steven’s subconscious as well, making him more inclined towards the same things? Or did the fact Layla was already so similar to Steven’s interests that gave Marc a bigger sense of connection right in the beginning?

Mark and Steven to bleed into each other, and there’s no way to tell where it stops. Personally I prefer the first thought, though at the same time is kind of beautiful, the idea of love shaping them, its bittersweet as it feels like stealing more of their individuality

!!!! You are absolutely right!! I was so pissed off in so many levels that I forgot that enormous dissonance.

And like, Sheena, Boji’s mom, forgave her (which is a whole another can of worms. Even if I could believe that she would forgive her own murderer, like a person that moves on and doesn’t hold grudges, Sheena should be absolutely furious to this day that Miranjo purposely endangered, traumatized and nearly killed her son for that), but that in no way means Boji would have swallowed that down so quickly. Miranjo did save Kage, by stopping him from going to the other side, but still, she was the reason they nearly died in the first place and it would have been major to see even a bit of internal conflict or hesitation on his part about what to do with Miranjo.

(On another note, Boji was betrayed a lot on this show, and the only one we actually see negative repercussions as his reaction was Doumas, probably because he was the one who wasn’t family. Daida ordered his brother to be assassinated (with a considerable dose of manipulation from Miranjo’s part but still), and while Daida regrets it and apologizes, Boji never actually seems to process that with everything that’s going on. Bosse betrayed everyone in his family and kingdom. Hiling was the only one who did have some recognition of the hurt for both parties and they had some closure, but then again she was the only one who actually cared about his well being and didn’t maliciously harm him)

I don’t think that Boji would really place resentment of his curse on Miranjo, since although she was the one who brought the means to devil’s deal, the choice to actually do so and the responsibility was entirely on Bosse (also side note that I think it’s very interesting that it seems like Boji would be born deaf regardless of the curse, since it was a steal your strength and size thing) and he is the one who should be resented for it. Boji’s self worth was already massively helped by Douma’s training and Kage’s support, to the point where when things actually went down he had a lot more confidence, so I don’t think Boji would actually want to look back on that specific point, as it would be way too painful and looking back at his traumas is something he somewhat avoids doing until forced to. Both he, Hiling and Daida should however, absolutely look around and face all the hurt Miranjo caused to the kingdom. How many died in all of that mess?

The only one that reacted reasonably to all this bullshit of absolutely forgiving Miranjo at their cost with no consequences was Hiling, and that was played for laughs. (Speaking of Hiling, did at any point Daida figure out his new fiancé tried to kill his mom??? And all the others?? The only goddamn reason the main cast isn’t pilled with bodies is because Hiling and later Daida had some really metal, but really exhausting magic powers. Does Daida know he has magic powers like his mom?? The only time he used them was when he was possessed)

Anyway, there’s a lot of serious talk about consequences and reparations that should be had, everyone should go in therapy with Douma since he’s the only one who seems the only one emotionally stable and then find a therapist for Douma, and Daida should have with his new magic powers to become a wizard with his mom and Miranjo as teachers (and cough maybe tried to use said magical powers to help Ouken cough) instead of getting married to a lady who tried to kill him and his whole kingdom

Ranking of Kings was so good but the ending with Miranjo was such a load of bullshit, like fuck off.

It could have been such a good closure if they just hadn’t tried to push the Rule of Obligatory Romance to such a ridiculous fucking degree. Miranjo was raised by Bosse since a child, then she develops a fucking Freudian-like lifelong crush on him, makes a deal with a demon for him (that only she paid through mind you), then fucks up the entire damn kingdom and everyone around it in a scheme that lasted several years, kills, maims or attempts to kill basically everyone in Bojji and Daida’s life.

And THEN, after all that shit show and realizing that she fucked up, be saved from the consequences of her own actions by Daida, the pubescent boy she mentored for years since childhood and then betrayed, by him making a deal with the devil -the very thing that started all this bullshit, and will probably have some serious consequences to him - and out of nowhere he want to marry her??? And she accepts it??? And everyone just gotta deal with it???

I known that with the show’s whole central bit about kindness and forgiveness, she would be saved and probably have a happy ending one way or another, and I wanted Miranjo to have a chance to heal, but did they have to be so fucking messed up about it??? What the fuck?! They managed to run into the horrible cliches for female characters and antagonists in the worst way.

Miranjo relationship to Bosse is very ambiguous in tone, it could be much more in a “he saved me and took care of me, so I need to repay him somehow by helping him”, that is a feeling that could pair very well with her only superficially explored Survivor’s Guilt. And in Daida and Bojji’s case she could simply taken a role of an adviser or an older sister (since, yknow, THEY WERE RAISED BY THE SAME GUY)

The anime was still overall a really good experience, but fuck if that storyline’s ending wasn’t unsatisfactory and messy as fuck. It felt like trying to pull Happy Ever After and character development with duct tape, and not even Miranjo’s but Daida’s. Daida who didn’t even need this bullshit to make his character likable mind you, he got his by trauma and self reflection time in the shadow realm. Miranjo’s bad writing wasn’t even for her, she was completely damseled and this pisses me off so much. God I’m so frustrated, this was such a great story and production with awesome characters, but this stands out like a sore spot even in this fairytale setting. They both deserved so much better.

Anyway, this was just a rant. Hope I can still see the show on a good light moving own despite it

Ekko’s fake death implication was so goddamn cruel, I nearly had a heart attack. The fucking clock stopped working, ticking back and forth, and so I thought “fuck this is an cinematographic representation that my boy is dead, the clock doesn’t work” and I was nearly crying and ready to rant about killing off characters with potential

And then one or two episodes later, this beautiful badass appears again and I have never been happier for misinterpreting something in my life

I like to imagine that if Diego actually met DIO in some non-fighting for their lives setting and they learned about each other’s past and actions, their reactions would be very complex

Diego probably won’t let it show, or even express any opinion about it. But he would be disturbed by DIO. Really disturbed. Diego is ambitious and ruthless, he probably would agree with using the Joestars and stealing their fortune, but everything after that? All the senseless sadism? Literally killing hundreds of people, including women and babies just for the sake of it? Even other things, like killing Danny and crying to get advantage at a fight would make his stomach turn, the idea of dropping his pride is disgusting, let alone everything else.

And what his mom would say? How horrified would she be if she ever even imagined it? Just thinking about it makes him sick. I feel like this would be a very brutal wake up call about what some of the consequences his actions could actually cause, and how they look from an outside perspective, and the fact that he could actually end up like that. Like someone his mother would be horrified by. Like someone who hurts people like his mother, without even realizing it or caring about it.

Maybe he represses this thoughts, maybe his attitude doesn’t change at all, but he develops a repulsion towards his counterpart. A part of him worries about DIO having stronger combat abilities and all, but he is so disconnected from him that it doesn’t even register as envy. Diego refuses to think of himself and his counterpart as the same person (Diego may even stop using and responding to his nickname out of repulse to that idea), so he thinks of DIO more as a threat that needs to be dealt with. Just another enemy, just a very familiar one.

And DIO would be in a contradictory cycle of superiority complex and resentment. He is superior to his weak counterpart. Of course he is. He is stronger, more powerful, he is immortal, he is smarter and more educated than some countryside jockey, DIO looms over him. They are not equal, they are not the same. DIO is better than Diego in every way. And yet.

Why does he feel so much envy?

Why does he hate Diego so much, almost comparable to how he hated Jonathan? Like Diego had somehow, despite it all, been the one to draw the longer straw?

Diego’s life wasn’t easy by any means. He had to work hard to survive, as soon as he learned how to walk. But he had a passion that came from inside himself, a talent that he loved doing it, in the horses and the racing, that even if partially a means to an end, made him happy even if just for a while. He grew up without Dario’s reek looming over him, without having lasting scars long after the bastard’s death, not knowing the impulse to grab yet another bottle.

And most of all he had his mother. Only for a tragically small portion of his life, much like DIO, but he had his mother. Diego had his mother, and he had her whole, he had all her love and the memories of her craved in his mind and his heart, not a suffering shell of what she once was, so marked by the years of abuse that she couldn’t protect him, that eventually faded away. DIO would loath Diego, he would despise him for being weaker and yet daring have more than him.

Anyway, that’s why Diego and DIO have so much past traumas and internal conflicts going on that they would literally hate to meet themselves and probably try to kill each other, thanks for listening to my TED talk and character analysis using Alternative universes as foils.

This is from someone who generally hates romance plot lines for the sake of romance plot lines. It makes next to zero sense with the story, but even before they ever interacted I was begging god for them to meet and get married simply because Hot Pink-Cyan- with a bit of gold is and excellent combination. I imagine part of the fandom went through the same.

Congrats Araki, for creating the only popular, mostly unproblematic, straight ship of Steel Ball Run built in only the irresistible appeal of cool color pallets, one arc and the pain of your readers. Your power is frightening.
